EMMAI stepped out to go to work and feeling better that I’ve ever been in a while. The house was quiet. Ava was already gone. I could hear Mrs. Keller was humming in the kitchen. Daniel was on his laptop.I quickly prepared for work and left. Couldn’t tell why I was excited but maybe because I’m looking forward to my date with Williams. It isn’t a date…I said trying to convince myself for the 9th time.Work was just paperwork, charts and phone calls.Numbers Adrian stopped by my desk once. “You good?” I looked stunned. “Adrain!” I said looking up at him, my eyes big. “I didn’t know you are coming.”“Well, you left without saying Goodbye.”“I’m soo sorry Adrian.”“You don’t have to be Emma, a lot has been going on lately…I totally understand if something as little as this skips your mind.”“Thanks a lot Adrain.”“But at least don’t finish my food before leaving next time, else you’ll pay.”I laughed out . “Did I eat that much?”He shook his head and then said: “I got you coffe on my w

AVAI woke up before my alarm, not that I was well-rested, but because my mind refused to stay quiet any longer. The room felt still, but my thoughts were already moving, for a moment, I stayed in bed staring at the ceiling, letting the weight settle properly instead of pushing it away.Helping Julian wasn’t the problem, helping him without losing control was.I got up, dressed simply, and stepped out without waiting to see Emma. Avoiding her wasn’t intentional, but I wasn’t just comfortable letting her know the processes of doing this whole bull-shit.Julian called before I even got into the car.“You’re up early,” he said.“I have things to do,” I replied.A brief pause followed before he continued.“Ava please, I need you focused. This isn’t something we can afford to mishandle.”“I’m aware,” I said calmly. He gave me an address.“Go there. Someone will be waiting for you. His name is Vincent. He’ll guide you through the process.”“What process exactly?” I asked.“The kind you’ll n

AVAAsking Emma to help me with this, was not something I ever imagined I would do. Especially given the situation. But Emma is the only one that would have the kind of influence we are looking for in that hospital.I stayed tense on my way home, trying to figure out the best way to tell Emma about it without making things feel awkward. When I got home, Emma was in the living room when I walked in, her posture relaxed but her expression thoughtful. She looked up immediately.“You’re back,” she said.“Yes” I replied feeling tense.“You don’t look too good.” She said“Well Emma” I said, making myself comfortable beside her.“I know this might sound crazy but—“ I paused trying to get a reaction which I didn’t. “I think I kinda need your help,” I finally said. She frowned slightly.“With what?”“I left this morning to an address Julian sent me, it was about burying the documents..but when I got there—“ I paused looking at Emma but she didn’t say anything signaling me to continue.“I foun

AVAThe ringing of my phone jolted me awake from sleep. I picked it up with sleepy eyes.“Ava, sorry for disturbing your sleep but you have to try and get here in 20 minutes.” Vincent’s voice came through the other end.“Huh?” I said, trying to comprehend what I just heard.“I said, be at my office in 20 minutes. We start today.”“I know we start today but like Now?”“There is no better time than now.” He said “And tell your inside source to be ready for command.”That ended the conversation. At that point, I forced myself out of bed even though I didn’t want to and went straight to take a shower. I got ready as quickly as I could to meet his twenty-minute deadline, even though I already knew it was unrealistic. When I got downstairs, Emma was still asleep, so I had to wake her.“Emma, wake up,” I said.“Ava?” she murmured, stretching slightly.“Get your inside source ready for command,” I told her. “I’ll be leaving now.”“Okay,” she replied, steadying herself. Then I left for Vincen

EMMAThe phone rang before I even finished getting ready. I already knew who it was but I answered anyway.“You don’t have to keep reminding me about it,” I said immediately.Williams laughed softly on the other end.“I like reminders,” he replied. “It makes sure you don’t disappear on me again.”I adjusted my blouse while holding the phone between my ear and shoulder.“I’ve never disappeared on you,” I said.“But you’ve thought of disappearing?”“Well—““Well, that’s what disappearing sounds like,” he said cutting me off. I rolled my eyes slightly.“I’ll be there, Williams.”“I know,” he replied. “But I still wanted to make sure you are coming.”I paused for a second.“Alright, see you.” I finally said and ended the call. I stood still for a moment. The room was quiet, but my mind wasn’t. Everything from yesterday and the past few days kept replaying in fragments. While Ava thought I was just “buying time,” I had done something else entirely.I had created a silent mirror node inside

AVAI woke up before my alarm, staring at the ceiling for a few seconds before finally sitting up. My body felt normal, but my mind was already racing through everything I needed to get done for the day. I pushed the thoughts aside, got out of bed, and went straight to the bathroom.By the time I got dressed, I had already decided I wasn’t going to overthink anything today. Work was work, and I needed to stay grounded in it.When I got downstairs, Emma was already sitting at the dining table as always, scrolling through her phone.“You’re up early,” she said, glancing at me.“I have a full schedule today,” I replied, picking up my bag.“Eat something first.”“I’ll eat later,” I said.“You always say that.” She said making a baby face.“Okay, you know what?…Let’s eat.” I replied with a smile taking a sit at the dinning table.Emma went in and got me me something to eat.The aroma of freshly brewed coffee lingered in the air, as she dropped a plate of toast and scrambled eggs neatly on

AVADaniel finally pulled away from the hug. His hand stayed on my shoulder for a second longer than necessary before he stood up fully. He exhaled softly, adjusting his jacket. “I’ll go get you something to eat,” he said. “Something light.”“I’m fine,” I replied automatically. He shook his head once. “We are not arguing this.”I didn’t have the energy to, so I nodded.“Okay,” I said quietly. He gave a small approving look before stepping out of the room. The door clicked shut behind him. For a moment, everything felt still.I hadn’t even fully adjusted my position when the door flew open again. Emma hurriedly walked in. She stopped the moment she met my eyes.“Oh my God, Ava,” she said immediately, rushing closer. “Thank God.”“I’m fine,” I replied. She ignored that completely and sat beside me.“Daniel texted me,” she said quickly. “He said you passed out. Do you know how scared I was?”“It wasn’t serious,” I said softly.“It doesn’t look like ‘not serious.’”I didn’t respond immedi

AVAThe night we got back home, I didn’t sleep. I laid on my bed staring into nothing, my mind replaying the same thing over and over again. “Well whatever the truth is, I’ll find out tomorrow.” I said to the empty room. The next morning, I woke up early than usual, Daniel was still asleep. I carefully went about my morning bath and prepared to leave without waking up. Going downstairs Emma wasn’t in the dinning, she seemed not to have waken up to.“Good morning ma’am” Mrs Keller greeted. “You’re up early.”“Yes I am, If Daniel asks, tell him I’m off for work.”“Okay ma’am”I turned and headed to the car, then picked up my phone and sent a message to Sienna: Meet me at Virelle Café in ten minutes. She saw it almost immediately. And replied with a single word: Why?I didn’t answer. The drive to the café felt unsettling as I kept wondering how our conversation would unfold. I got there before her.I chose a seat where I could see the entrance clearly, my fingers tapping lightly again

EMMAI woke up to Mrs Keller letting me know Ava had left earlier than usual. I went ahead with breakfast, then headed for a shower. After I was done, my phone wouldn’t stop ringing—Williams was calling again and again.“Gosh… will he always do this?” I said with a small smile.I didn’t pick up. Instead, I texted him: Stop blowing up my phone, or I won’t show up.Almost instantly, the calls stopped, and I couldn’t help but laugh.I got dressed quickly and ordered a cab to the location he had sent. When I arrived, he was already standing by his black SUV.“So it’s gotten to the point where you’re threatening your boyfriend now?” he asked, leaning in for a hug.“Sometimes it’s necessary to keep my boyfriend’s behavior in check,” I replied, hugging him back.We both laughed.“When are you going to let me start picking you up from your place?” he asked.“It’s not really my place,” I said. “I stay with my sister, and we’ve been keeping things discreet lately for security reasons.”He nodd

SIENNAI didn’t move immediately after she left. For a moment, I just stood there, staring at the space she had occupied like something was supposed to still be there. The air around me felt heavier. Then I exhaled slowly and adjusted my posture. People were staring but I couldn’t care less.I picked up my bag calmly and walked out of the café like nothing had happened. The sunlight outside felt too bright, almost irritating. I walked straight to my car, opened the door, and slid into the driver’s seat before finally letting the silence settle around me.Then I touched my cheek, the sting from the slap still lingering. I let out a small, humorless laugh and leaned back against the seat, closing my eyes for a brief second, refusing to believe what just happened.“She’s lost her mind,” I muttered under my breath. I finally opened my eyes slowly and stared ahead. “There's something about the look in her eyes..” I thought out loud.I started the car but didn’t move immediately. Instead,
