When Nia found me, I was just leaving the company after a day’s work. Nia’s car only stopped at the main gates. She would not even spend another minute to drop me off at the door.I could tell that she was in a rush. She slammed the accelerator the entire way, as though terrified Jonah would be mad at her for being a little late.I did not waste my breath, getting out of the car as soon as it stopped.Somewhat surprised, Nia lowered the car window. “Make some supper, and I’ll eat with you when I get back.”A while ago, I would have been ecstatic to hear that — but I did not need her company anymore. Nia stopped trying to talk to me when she saw I was not willing to compromise. She left the guest room and slammed the door behind her.As I was about to fall asleep, I heard her laughter from the living room. She was obviously on the phone with Jonah again.It seemed they were still deeply in love. Good, that way I could leave her even easier. Early the next morning, I left the house and went to the best divorce lawyer in town. “Write me a case that’ll make her leave without a penny!”Once I was done handling the divorce papers, I sat down in a cafe. Before marrying Nia, my favorite pastime was to find a cafe on my day off and read a book quietly.After we got married, though, I no longer had time for myself. My life revolved around her, and I once naively believed I would be able to win her heart with my efforts.As it turned out, she took everything I did for granted. When I was about to head home, Nia called me excitedly. “Where are you? I’ll pick you up!”I was confused.

As we spoke, the car stopped in front of a luxurious hotel. Once they got out, Jonah and Nia immediately walked side by side. She even hugged his arm sweetly, as though she had completely forgotten about me.I stood beside the car awkwardly, unsure if I should follow them. Just then, Nia turned around to yell at me. “What are you waiting for? Come along!”Anyone watching would think they were a couple, while I was just their subordinate. I sighed. Once we got out of the elevator, I hurried into the conference room and found a seat with people on both sides. For one, I did not want Nia to grill me about going overseas. At the same time, I did not want to sit next to Nia and Jonah.Nia rolled her eyes at me and then took the seats opposite me with Jonah by her side. Once she settled down, she texted me. [Alright, I know you’re still mad at me about the anniversary. I brought you out today, so don’t be mad anymore, please?]Before, I would have forgiven her in an instant if she begged me like that. Now, though, I just felt disgusted.I turned off my phone without replying to her. She did not check for my response, either, since she firmly believed she had me wrapped around her finger. Jonah was miffed to see Nia so worried about me. While everyone was distracted, he grabbed a shard of glass and sliced open his arm, then walked up to Nia with tears in his eyes. “Nia, I’m injured. It hurts…”Nia glanced at him impatiently. “Then get into the car and go to the hospital with me!”Jonah did not like her attitude, but he just jumped into the car since Nia was about to drive off. Gordon hurriedly pressed the bedside bell to call the doctor. Nia belatedly realized what she had done and stumbled a few steps back before falling on her butt. For the next dozen minutes until the cops arrived, she just sat on the floor, staring blankly. After a long while, she looked at me guiltily. “I’m sorry, Dylan. I got revenge for you, so… will you forgive me…?”Her gaze at me was full of love, the same love I had always longed for. Now, though, I felt nothing at having finally achieved it.
