Chapter 8

Penulis: Anonymous
I woke up not long after I was wheeled to the hospital ward. The first thing I saw was Nia sitting by my bedside, fretting.

Not long ago, I would have been touched to see her waiting for me. Now, though, I just felt annoyed to see her once I woke up.

I turned my head away, unwilling to look at her face. “Nia, let’s get a divorce! From now on, we’ll live our separate lives. You can be with Jonah for all I care!”

Looking through the window on the ward door, I could see Jonah running over. He pr

Gordon hurriedly pressed the bedside bell to call the doctor. Nia belatedly realized what she had done and stumbled a few steps back before falling on her butt. For the next dozen minutes until the cops arrived, she just sat on the floor, staring blankly. After a long while, she looked at me guiltily. “I’m sorry, Dylan. I got revenge for you, so… will you forgive me…?”Her gaze at me was full of love, the same love I had always longed for. Now, though, I felt nothing at having finally achieved it. My tone was calm and just a little curious. “Was it worth it? I thought you never loved me.”Nia shook her head with a weak chuckle. “That’s what I used to think. But when I saw you collapse today, I finally realized that I fell in love with you a long time ago…“I admit, it’s my fault that everything turned out the way it did! I just hope you can forgive me… If I make it out of prison alive, I’ll make it up to you and love you properly…”I shook my head. “Forget it, I don’t want to

He probably heard what I just said, because he was smirking smugly. However, Nia shook her head desperately, tears flowing down her face. “No, I don’t want to get a divorce! I’m sorry, please forgive me… I promise I’ll never see Jonah again…”She wept bitterly and even choked on her words. Even so, I was not going to change my mind. If I did, I would only be hurting myself even more.Jonah kicked open the door when he heard Nia’s pleas. “Nia, didn’t you promise me you were going to leave him soon?

Jonah was miffed to see Nia so worried about me. While everyone was distracted, he grabbed a shard of glass and sliced open his arm, then walked up to Nia with tears in his eyes. “Nia, I’m injured. It hurts…”Nia glanced at him impatiently. “Then get into the car and go to the hospital with me!”Jonah did not like her attitude, but he just jumped into the car since Nia was about to drive off. The atmosphere throughout the drive was sub-zero, with neither of them saying anything. When the car stopped at the hospital entrance, Nia spoke first, saying carelessly. “Get down and get that wound bandaged at the ER by yourself. I’m going to see Dylan.”With that, she got out of the car in a hurry. She did not notice Jonah sulking at all.Nia ran to the operating theater and bumped into the doctor who had just treated me. The doctor asked, “Who’s Dylan Shea’s family? Who let him drink so much wine right after his surgery? Did you want to kill him?!”His tone was clearly furious and accu

He raised a glass before me and raised his voice before the crowd. “I know you don’t like me, Mr. Shea, but here’s a toast to you! “We have a long journey ahead of us, and I’ll need to rely on you in the future as well. With this toast, let us let bygones be bygones!”Nia poked me from behind, urging me to finish the drink. Jonah’s declaration had put me in a tough spot. If I drank, it would be terrible for my health. If I did not, everyone would think me petty. Even so, my health came first. Why would I compromise on it for these people who did not matter?I waved away the glass. “Who said I don’t like you? I simply don’t care about you either way. It’s all a misunderstanding. Still, I can’t drink right now for health reasons.”Nia stepped forward and stuffed the wine glass into my hand. “Health reasons? I never heard anything about that. Jonah is humbly apologizing to you, so can’t you be magnanimous for once? Just drink it!”Her gaze was sharp, and her tone was a command.I

Once we got out of the elevator, I hurried into the conference room and found a seat with people on both sides. For one, I did not want Nia to grill me about going overseas. At the same time, I did not want to sit next to Nia and Jonah.Nia rolled her eyes at me and then took the seats opposite me with Jonah by her side. Once she settled down, she texted me. [Alright, I know you’re still mad at me about the anniversary. I brought you out today, so don’t be mad anymore, please?]Before, I would have forgiven her in an instant if she begged me like that. Now, though, I just felt disgusted.I turned off my phone without replying to her. She did not check for my response, either, since she firmly believed she had me wrapped around her finger. She thought I was still the same simp who would come running back to her the moment she asked. The smell of alcohol and cigarette smoke in the room gave me the urge to cough. Since I had barely recovered from the surgery, my chest felt tight.I

As we spoke, the car stopped in front of a luxurious hotel. Once they got out, Jonah and Nia immediately walked side by side. She even hugged his arm sweetly, as though she had completely forgotten about me.I stood beside the car awkwardly, unsure if I should follow them. Just then, Nia turned around to yell at me. “What are you waiting for? Come along!”Anyone watching would think they were a couple, while I was just their subordinate. I sighed. Since I was already here, I might as well play along. I slowly walked behind them until a familiar voice called out to me.“If it isn’t Dylan! It’s been a while!”I turned around. It was my best friend from my time in the army and Nia’s most important business partner, Gordon Wayne.I hurriedly stopped and joked with him. “It has been a while! I’m still waiting for that lunch you owe me!”Gordon burst out laughing. “Haha, you haven’t changed at all!”Nia turned around at the sound of our voices and rushed over, punching me in the b
