The past + The Present

SEVERAL YEARS AGOWilliam stormed inside after Trisha, slamming the door behind him. She did not turn to look at him, instead, she was about to angrily walk up the stairs when he grabbed her by the arm and spun her around. “Oh no you don’t. Don’t you dare walk out on me. You have no right to be pissed,” William snapped. Trisha yanked her arm away from his grip as she levelled him with a death stare. “I have every right to be pissed. You do not control how I feel,” she quipped back at him, and it was obvious that she was spoiling for a fight.“You called my mother an old hag, and as if that was not enough disrespect, you fucking walked out on my parents,” William yelled back. He was frustrated to the core, and he hated how tonight’s dinner had turned out. His parents had never really liked Trisha despite the fact that he had been with her for a while, but William really liked her, and he had hoped that tonight would lead to so

Williams's version of the story

The silence that stretched between Nicole and Williams as she waited for his response to her question became almost indeterminate. It stretched and filled all the empty spaces in his heart, and Nicole could feel herself getting disappointed. She desperately wanted to believe him. To give him a chance to tell her the truth. But apparently, he didn’t trust her enough to let her in. When the silence grew painful, Nicole cleared her throat and spoke. “You can leave now, please. I have a lot of work to do and I would like to get started on them as soon as possible.” Her voice was calm, and she liked that it gave none of the heartbreak and the turmoil in her chest away. William had been lost in his head, who, in an attempt to tell Nicole the truth, had gotten lost in the memories of all the awful things he faced while he was still in love with Trisha. At Nicole’s curt words though, he snapped back into himself. Taking a step closer, William’s lips pa

Trisha’s deception.

THREE YEARS AGOWilliam's heart raced as he rushed back home. He had gotten a call from Trisha, telling him to leave the office and come to her immediately because it was an emergency. William, who had been in the middle of a meeting, did not think twice about her request. He excused himself and drove home as fast as he could. Ever since Trisha told him that she was pregnant, William had been treating her like an egg. He made her sit at home and ordered her to do nothing, hiring a maid to do all the chores and a chef to cook all the food she wanted. His brother said that he was spoiling her more than she already was, but William did not care. Having a grandbaby would soften his parents heart towards Trisha, and maybe being a mother would make Trisha herself learn to be patient. Which would be a win win for both sides. When he pushed the door open and rushed inside, William met Trisha on the couch. Her pregnancy was now slight

That goddamned scent.

PRESENTNicole could not believe her ears. William’s face was streaked with the ghost of tears as he stood before Nicole, and he was gasping for breath. And even though what happened was three years ago, even though three years was a long time and he probably should have gotten over it, William was not over it. He just learned to manage to hide his pain better. But as he stood there and bared his deepest wound to Nicole, he felt raw. Open. Vulnerable. Like someone had pulled him apart and his soul was now on display. Nicole sniffed as a tear rolled down her face. She stood up and gently made her way towards him, her heart shattered into pieces at the cruelty of what Trisha had made him go through. “I am so sorry, William. Really. That was an awful thing to go through and I hate that you experienced all of that pain alone. I am so sorry. I am very sorry,” Nicole apologized as she hugged him, and for a moment, Wi

“I was lost. I had no fucking idea of what I was supposed to do. A part of me was not willing to believe it. I mean, after everything I had done for her, after putting up with every single thing she did to me, to my parents, Trisha would not lie to me about something that big, right?”William swallowed. He was sitting on the couch in Nicole’s office now, and Nicole was right by his side, holding on to his hand very gently. He did not – could not– meet her gaze as he went on.“But as I stood in her closet that night, something finally dawned on me. Trisha never loved me. Not the way I loved her. She meant so much to me yet she had taken a whole period of my life and just… toyed with it. I did not know what to do. I could not think. I was just so sad and numb. I…”He closed his eyes as he trailed off, reminding himself to breathe. William was a little bit surprised at how raw and vulnerable he still was at the issue. He was not as over it as h

The First Crack.

Asher was close to losing his mind. It had been a week since he appeared in the Stardom Fashion empire to plant the bait for Nicole, and he had been so damn sure that she would reach out to him. But she didn't. To his biggest surprise, Nicole fucking didn't. Asher’s skin itched as days passed, and even though he tried to hide how increasingly nervous he was at her silence, Asher was falling apart. When he could not take it anymore, he decided to text Trisha to ask if Nicole reached out to her instead. Maybe it would be easier for her if she spoke to Trisha. So he sent Trisha a quick text, and the moment the text marked as delivered, he started to wait anxiously for her response. “Oh for fucks sake, will you put that stupid phone down and listen to me?” Zara snapped. She could not take it anymore. Ever since that morning she planted a trail on him, Asher had been surprisingly present.

The First Night.

Asher knew he could have gone somewhere else. He had the means to book a hotel. He could have gone back home, even. But he didn't. The curiosity burned in his chest so hotly, so fucking fiercely, that it burned away all the inhibitions he should have had. Throwing all caution to the wind, Asher drove to Welling. Trisha had still not responded to his text even by then, so he told himself he had a reason for going over to her house even though it was past midnight. He convinced himself that he just wanted to know if Nicole had reached out to her or not, and once he got the answer to his question, he would leave. Like any respectable gentleman would. By the time he got to Trisha's house, Asher had managed to believe his convictions, and he was calm, composed, as he got out of his car.Trisha opened the door almost immediately after Asher pressed the doorbell, and there was an anticipatory look on her face a

THE ARTICLE

William was in his office, preparing for a meeting, when his twin brother rushed in without knocking.Which was weird, because Wilson always knocked.Wilson looked frazzled, and William's brows furrowed into a frown at the look on his brother's face. Something seemed to be going on. Wilson shut the door behind him and turned to face his brother. After taking several deep breaths, his expression turned from being frazzled and became unreadable. "Wilson. What is going on?" William asked. His brother was his best friend. His closest companion. Yet, as he stared at Wilson, William felt a little bit... unmoored. Like he had done something wrong and his brother was disappointed in him. Which made no sense, because William was sure that he had not done...Before he could finish that line of thought, Wilson spoke. "What happened between you and Trisha? Why did you break up with her?"The question

The Press Conference.

Nicole woke up late. She had no explanation for the way her body felt sluggish, or why she wasn't really feeling like going anywhere that morning. Not even to work. But since she wasn't going to let a lazy feeling stop her, Nicole managed to get herself out of the bed and ready. By the time she drove into the company's garage, she was feeling a little bit more clear headed and composed. All she needed was a good cup of coffee. Nicole was about to get out of the car when her phone buzzed. The sound didn't repeat itself. It was just short and fleeting. One minute it was there, and the other minute, it was gone. If it wasn't that she was about to grab said phone from the passenger's seat, Nicole might have missed the notification. But she didn't. The notification was about Trisha's article. Nicole's jaw dropped open as she read the article. Her heart started to race as anger filled her veins.

A little reprieve.

William and Nicole remained in the conference room long after the press conference had concluded. William knew his phone was going to be flooded with calls and texts, so he switched it off. His parents would probably be trying to reach him too, but he needed time to breathe. Wilson would handle them for now. But at the moment, William needed space from everything and everyone. Well, everyone except Nicole. She sat in the conference room with him, saying nothing. Nicole understood that his emotions were at war at the moment, and that all he needed for her was just to be there for him, like he was for her at the hospital. So she sat in silence with him, her own phone switched off too. After what could have been forever but was just roughly half an hour, William broke the silence. He cleared his throat."Nicole. You're too far from me. Can you...can you come closer, please?"Nicole in
