All Chapters of Knotting the Hunter: Chapter 151 - Chapter 160

DaxAlbert answers his door with a shotgun."Holt," he says, and lowers it about halfway. "You here about the thief?"There goes the speech I built on the walk over."What thief?""Somebody's been in my meat shed. Twice a week, maybe more, going on two weeks now."He jerks his chin toward the treeline."Took a whole deer's worth of venison out of my cooler, piece by piece. And before you ask, no, it's not a bear. Bears don't lift latches and shut the door behind them when they’re done."Noah and Tori drift toward the shed without being invited.Hunter kids. Walking a perimeter is a family tradition."You see anybody?" I ask."He’d have a hole in him if I did. And Duchess won't go past the woodpile anymore. Nine years of chasing everything that moves, and now she does her business on the porch like a duchess for real."He spits off the step."Whole thing's got a stink to it. Like an assessor from the Revenue Agency, but with slightly more honesty. At least this one doesn’t hide that it

DaxIt's not even seven yet, and Noah is sitting on my kitchen table, wearing my hoodie and nothing underneath, demolishing an apple with tremendous calm, like a man who's planning something."Morning," he says.Innocent as the morning dew. Not an agenda in the world. The scent reaches me halfway down the stairs and stops me dead.Warm, spiced, freshly showered, wrapped in my clothes.‘Eat him,' my wolf says. 'He's already on the table. Half the work is done.'Not helping.'I'm not trying to help you. I'm trying to help us.'It's been almost two weeks since Tori went home, and the siege started the morning after we got back from Lillianna’s cottage.I know it's a siege because it has a plan of attack. The hoodie. The lack of underwear. The washing with my bodywash in the shower, perfectly timed so his skin and hair are still damp and at their most fragrant when I come downstairs. The questions. Here comes one now."Quick question." He turns the apple over. "You told me there'd be plen

DaxFinn's truck rolls in at first light, and by seven I'm up a ladder with a string of lights in one hand and my best friend narrating from below."A little higher. Now left. Do you have no artistic vision? Swoop it down a little.""Do you want to do this part?""And rob you of the romance? Never."Noah cleared out at dawn.He took one look at the truck, announced he'd be avoiding the entire east side of the territory until further notice, took a last swallow of his coffee, and jogged off into the trees in my t-shirt.I can’t remember the last time he wore a shirt or hoodie that belonged to him. If my pants fit him better, I’m pretty sure he’d be stealing those too.And it’s not getting old. It still hits me in the solar plexus and wraps me in syrupy warmth every single time.I watched him go with my whole chest aching, which is apparently just how I live now.'Teeth,' my wolf says. He's been saying it since sunrise, roughly once a minute. 'Ridge. Teeth. Tonight.'Yeah, trust me, I k

Dax"Stop touching it.""I can't."We're halfway down the mountain and I've got my fingers on the mark again, the one on my throat, the one my fated mate put there with his teeth. It's tender in the best way.Pressing it sets off a little flare of last night, every single time, and I am never going to stop."You're worse than a kid with a scab," Noah says."I'm decorated. Show some respect."He's three steps ahead of me on the trail and I don't need my eyes to know it. He's a warm point in my chest now. Exact. I could find him in a blizzard. I could find him blind. And the feeling pouring off him this morning is happy. Just happy, wall to wall. He'd never admit it out loud. Doesn't matter. The bond tells on him all day now.Being bonded is going to ruin every fight we've ever enjoyed and I could not be more excited."Quit grinning at my back," he says."Can't do that either. Keep walking, Honey bear."He stops dead on the trail."No.""It's that or Muffin. I've got a list. I made it m

DaxI wake up because my pillow is leaving.Out from under my head. While I'm still on it."Morning," I say, into the mattress."Go back to sleep."Noah's standing over me in my hoodie, hair a disaster after a night of running hot enough to bake bread on, one arm already loaded with the thickest blanket from the hall closet. My pillow joins the stack. He carries the whole haul to his side of the bed and starts building. He doesn't put anything down so much as install it. Adjust, step back, squint, adjust again.Yesterday he was still pretending this wasn't happening. This morning he's doing it in front of me, chin up, daring me to comment."Say one word," he says, back still to me.I strip my sleep shirt off and hold it out.He stares at it. Stares at me. Takes it and tucks it on the left side of his pillow. Exactly where his nose will be if he turns his head to the side.My wolf is beside himself.'Yes. YES. Ours is building. Contribute more. Give him the socks you wore running.'Nob
