Evelyn’s head snapped to the side. A sharp heat bloomed across her cheek and she stood frozen, one hand rising halfway to her face before falling again. She stared at Victor as if the man in front of her had become a stranger. He had hit her. Again. Grace yanked her own hair free with a rough pull that sent her stumbling a half-step.
