Chapter 31

MAX’S POV Whatever Nara gave to me made the pain from the injury disappear, and the only thing that made me remember that I had been shot with an arrow was the scar on the wound.I had the strangest dream the previous night, and no matter how hard I tried to figure it out, it seemed like I was getting more confused. After struggling for a while, I decided to go see Nara. I was certain that seeing her was going to change a lot of things, and maybe she could help me with the dream. She was not in her room, and I found that very strange. Ever since she came to the mansion, she has not bothered going to any other place, and I was unable to count the number of days she had spent with me.I asked the two servants assigned to her after seeing them one after the other, and they had no idea where she had gone. “ Mr. Crane ?” Morgan appeared right in front of me, and the look on his face didn’t seem very pleasant.“Is everything okay?” I asked, but he said nothing.“Talk to me, Morgan. Chapter 32

LESLIE’S POV Thoughts of the things Echo said about my dreams kept me awake almost throughout the night, but I managed to get some rest.I woke up earlier than any other person in the mansion, including the guards who were supposed to be vigilant, and the only thought that came to my mind was to take a walk.I wasn’t sure where I was going, but the more steps I took, the more it felt like I was walking to someplace where I was going to encounter relief. I found my steps along the path that led to a beautiful garden where I sat for a very long time. There were so many thoughts going through my mind, but I was still concerned about the dream. Then I felt my stomach grumble, and I was reminded that I had not tasted anything the previous night. I decided to head back to the mansion.I didn’t even realize that the sun was up; the shelter from the garden made it almost impossible for me to feel the sunlight, and I hastened up with my steps.Morgan appeared, and it looked like he had been

Chapter 33

MAX’S POV Nara didn’t seem pleased that I had revealed that she was my Lover, but I didn’t think I had any other choice.Catherine was there as well, and I was certain that I had made the best decision.“What did you say?” Lord Alpheus was the first to speak, breaking the lingering silence.“Nara here is my Lover,” I said it again, even though I knew there was no need to repeat myself. I grabbed Nara by her waist and looked into her eyes with a smile on my face. She didn’t like what I was doing, but I was convinced that it was the only way they could let her be. All I wanted for her was immunity from the claws of Catherine and her father. “That’s not possible! It can’t be!” It was Catherine’s turn to speak, and she was struggling with the truth that was right there in front of her.“Your Lover died, Max! She died!”“Maybe the Moon goddess was so kind and considerate to give me another Lover.” I gave her a very quick response, and she felt betrayed. “Look at Nara, is she not beauti

Chapter 34

MAX’S POV“What is it, Morgan?” I asked, but he said nothing.Even in his silence, I could still see from his eyes that all was not well. “ Mr. Crane ?” He said with a shaky voice, but he wasn’t looking at me. His eyes were staring hard at Nara.“What is it, Morgan? Talk to me?” I waited for a response, but Morgan was still busy staring at Nara.“She has brought trouble, Mr. Crane. I think she has to leave. You have to send her away.” Morgan didn’t sound like he was making a demand; he sounded like he was making a command, and I didn’t like that.“She has done nothing for me to send her away, Morgan. Why are you here?”“He is here to make sure that I leave. He has always wanted me to leave.” Nara interrupted. She had her eyes on Morgan, just like he was staring hard at her. “He can’t even deny it, Mr. Crane. Look at the way he looked at me; all he wants is to make sure that I leave.” Nara turned to look at me, but her gaze didn’t last for too long before she shifted it back to Morg

Chapter 35

LESLIE’S POV Morgan blamed me for what had happened, and I knew that he also blamed me for so many other things which he still had refused to say to me.As soon as Mr. Crane asked him to leave, he turned to look at me. He seemed like he hated me for being Mr. Crane’s Lover, and also for being the reason why he refused to listen to him.He was no longer afraid to show that he detested me. The look on his face said it all just before he returned his gaze to Mr. Crane.“I hope you know what you are doing, Mr. Crane …” He said some other things to Mr. Crane, but that was the only thing I could hear. Max kept his eyes on him as he approached me with intense contempt written all over him.“I hope you are prepared to fight with him when the time comes, Nara. This is more than you think…” He said with a loud whisper before he walked away.I wasn’t sure if what he said was a threat or a warning, but I was certain that it was going to stick in my head for a very long time. “What did he s

Chapter 36

LESLIE ’S POV I wasn’t sure of what I was supposed to say at that moment, but everything Ravenna said had made my heart beat faster. I stared at her, hoping that she was going to say something different, but she was silent. “What does this mean? Does this mean that I could be truly killed?”“I don’t know, Lysandra. But sometimes Echo’s visions change; most of them don’t really happen the way she sees them. Some can be altered, while some others don’t just happen.” Ravenna thought that what she said was going to be a consolation to me, but I had already been surged into a state of perplexity. There was nothing else she was going to say to get rid of the intensity of what she said to me. But death was not something strange to me,The fact that I had already witnessed it once made it a bit easier for me to bear the news. Maybe I was going to survive by the time it came to me just like the first time, but it could also be a narrow escape. “You are a very powerful seer, Lysandra. I am

Chapter 37

MAX’S POV The loud noise we heard outside the mansion had interrupted Nara from saying what she wanted to say, and I couldn’t ignore it after it happened the second and the third time.“Did you hear that?” Nara asked, and I nodded.“Stay here,” I said in a whisper, and then I started walking outside. But I heard the sound of her footsteps following me behind. “I asked you to stay here, Nara.”“I am coming with you.” She insisted, and I had to let her follow me even though the sound made me very worried. It sounded like there was an intense struggle happening outside, and I had to grab my sword while I was still moving outside. “Let me go!” An unfamiliar voice yelled, and I had to quicken my steps. I knew that whatever was happening outside was very intense. I saw him in chains, the CEO of Crimson City, the same one who had caused me so much pain from the injury.Asher was standing behind him while he was on his knees, with two guards standing next to him. He struggled so much to

Chapter 38

MAX’S POV Asher forcefully dragged CEO Ethan away and pushed him to the square where his execution was to take place.A lot of people were gathered to watch, and no one seemed like they wanted him to live after what they heard he did to me. Nara appeared beside me while I was walking to the position left for me at the square. I thought she was not going to be in attendance. “Are you really sure about this?” I asked, but she said nothing. She just kept on walking alongside me. While we walked to the square, curious eyes kept on staring at us. They must have been wondering who Nara was because they usually saw me with Catherine. “War will come to this land!” Ethan was still struggling with the guards, but more of them grabbed him and forced him to his knees. It was time to do the needful, and the only thing remaining was for me to give my command. Everyone was waiting, and the moment I lifted my right hand, there was silence. I couldn’t hear the sound of Ethan’s heartbeat, but I

Chapter 39

LESLIE ’S POV I had been listening to everything Asher was saying to the King, and I was wondering how he knew about all of that. What if I hadn’t come back to be certain that Max had taken the portion I made for him? Maybe I wouldn’t have known about it; that was if Max would have been willing to tell me and not keep it a secret.“You must have gone through a lot to find out about my little secrets,” I said with a smirk on my face, and he was yet to utter even a word. “Is this true?” King Max asked, and that was when I realized that my boldness was not going to last for so long.I saw the look on his face, and he felt a little betrayed. He was hoping that I was not going to admit that Asher was wrong, but there was no need to hide the truth any longer.“Answer him, Nara. Oh, forgot, that’s not even your real name.” Asher thought he was willing; the bright smile that appeared on his face was a sign of his perceived victory.“I am certain that she is hiding a lot of things apart fro

Chapter 40

LESLIE ’S POV Max sounded like he was telling me to walk into a trap, but it didn’t seem like I had any other choice at that moment. When I opened my mouth to speak, something stopped me, and it felt like I was about to go dumb. It had happened before, but not as intense as it happened earlier. “What do you want me to do to prove to you that I mean no evil?” I walked right into the trap, and Max smiled briefly because he was about to get what he had always wanted.“I need you to give me your word, Leslie. Promise me that you will do what I will ask of you. That is the only way I can guarantee your trust.”“I give you my word. You have my word.” I was struggling with the sensation after what I said, and then the voice inside my head came back to warn me just like it had always done.“You are making a very terrible mistake, Leslie. You will die.” It sounded like a warning that was going to remain in my head for a very long time, and it made me shiver.“Are you okay?” Max noticed that
