CHAPTER 11: THE GIRL FROM THREE MONTHS AGO

ROWLAND It’s been three months since that night at the club. That one night stand that had shaken me to my core in that room with that strange girl with the most perfect body. After that night, I knew I wanted her. More of her. Those eyes. Those pair of beautiful, yet haunted turquoise eyes. I never turned on the lights whenever I was with my one night stands, but for the first time, I couldn’t resist.I just had to see her face. And when I did, it humbled me what I saw. Pain, secrets and a kind of dullness that came from resignation. But in all of these, I’d also seen the thrill, the shock, the excitement. She had come for the money, I could tell that much but she hadn’t expected to enjoy it. And maybe there was guilt…just a little enough to have me wonder if she was in a relationship. However, that wasn’t going to deter me from finding who she was. After that night with her, other girls didn’t just satisfy me anymore. They didn’t evoke that hunger the way she had.I’ve had girls

CHAPTER 12:A VISIT IN PRISON

TRICIA It’s been over a month since William Carter had his goons in uniform throw me in cell and abandoned me. I wouldn’t lie, the first few nights, I’d roughed it. Fought against cell bullies with injuries and scars to prove it. The way they all ganged up against me, you’d think they sat for a meeting before attacking me. After the first week, it dawned on me that William fucking Carter’s ego had been so bruised when I made his nose bleed that he’d ensured I endured the daily bullies. The second week, the fear I’d never felt in a long time crept in. Slowly at first. By the time the first month was over, I was crying silently every night, realizing he was serious about me spending the rest of my life in here. I was already halfway through my second month here. Six weeks in lockup for doing absolutely nothing, except stand against a bully, and because he had deep pockets, no one was interested in knowing the truth. The three other inmates were asleep which would never fail to am

CHAPTER 13: MEETING HER BROTHER’S BEST FRIEND

ELEANOR CARTER I acknowledged the greetings from the staff with a smile here, a wave there. I had decided to pay a surprise visit to my brother today at his office, and I was bringing a hamper containing his favorite lunch for him. Although, his fiancee had sent me money to get lunch for him. A month after that Stacy bitch left the house, he had proposed to marry Rosy Kelot, a fast rising movie star, and I couldn’t be more happy over his new choice. Rosy was everything Stacy wasn't and never would be. She was beautiful, had class, glamour and a dazzling personality. Mom and I knew he was seeing Rosy behind Stacy’s back, and we support him. I mean, it was obvious he loved Rosy more than he ever would Stacy. It’s been three months and their wedding was coming up in three weeks. “Is my brother in?” I asked his secretary. She nodded, “yes, but he’s in a meeting.” “Okay, I’ll wait for him in his office then.” I told her, already moving past her. “Okay, Miss Carter.”

CHAPTER 14: SIX YEARS LATER…

STACYFor a moment I stood at the airport, watching people miling about me. My eyes scanning the area, lingering on the same spot I’d stood, scared and emotional, with Tricia, hugging her so tight she’d laughingly said I could break her spine from how hard I was hugging.A small smile broke through me. I was back. Back to the place I never thought I’d stepped my feet again. But when Zaya Pearl had gotten an email from a new fashion brand, NOVA, I just couldn’t avoid the tiny lingering homesick feeling within my chest.Plus, I’d missed Tricia so much. After I got settled in New York City, I tried reaching her to no avail. And about two months later, I lost my phone and every contact in it.I tried searching for her across social media pages, but couldn’t find her. Then life happened. I got busy, trying to build myself from scratch and I’m so glad how far I’d come. A hand tugged on my pants.I looked down to smile at Layla who bore a striking resemblance to that man from six years ago

CHAPTER 15: APPOINTMENTS, MEETING THE CEO OF NOVA STACY

STACY Life back in New York City had been anything but fair to me. For the first six months, I had worked multiple jobs while managing to squeeze in fashion school. The money I’d made from that night had helped to an extent, but I had to keep working so I didn’t go homeless or that my kids didn’t come into this world with no clothes to wear. Thankfully, the owner of the fashion school I’d attended — a Parisian woman — had really been nice and helpful. The mother figure who stepped in to make sure I didn’t have to stress too much. When I realized I was carrying triplets and the fear had hit so hard on caring for them, she had given me good word of advice and occasionally helped me babysit. I’d have to call her once I was done with the appointments I had today. One was with Miss Jones, the realtor recommended to me and then the late afternoon meeting with the CEO of NOVA. Once I hailed a taxi, deciding on getting a car next as soon as I got a house, I dialed the realtor’s number.

CHAPTER 16: He Remembers Her

STACY Life must be playing some kind of cruel joke on me. What the hell was happening? “Welcome to NOVA, Miss Adams.” He accepted my outstretched hand that had gone limp from shock, his expression calm and void of recognition.Yeah, that was true. He didn’t recognize me. I had worn a mask, remember? God, I was so stupid to have faltered even for a moment. The man must probably be wondering why I looked so…caught. I cleared my throat, pushing back every other emotions and letting logic and confidence take back reins, “thank you, Mr. Flyndale.”“Let’s head to the boardroom, the others are waiting.” He gestured in the direction I guessed that led the way to the boardroom. “Alright, lead the way.” I made space for him to start ahead, then followed while thoughts ran though my mind. God, I must be dreaming because what the hell?! Was fate trying to play tricks on me? My one night stand was the man I’d be working with for the next six months to one year? As panic tried to brew, logic

CHAPTER 17: Cornered, A Surprise For Her

STACYI gulped hard, trying not to let fear rile me, “I don’t know what you’re talking about. And if you’re going to continue this, just so you know, this is harassment, I can sue you, you know that. Plus, my boss wouldn’t like to hear that the staff she’d sent to Los Angeles for a one year contract is being treated this way by the CEO of NOVA.” Maybe if I threatened him, he would leave me the heck alone. He stared at me a while longer, even his lips curved In a small amused smile. What was funny? However, to my relief, he moved back, but not as far as I’d like him to be. “I need to get going, Mr. Flyndale. I hope this doesn’t happen again.” I said, showing a bit of defiance.“You won’t do it.” He said, sounding confident underneath the amusement. “What?” “Your threats, you won’t do them. Your mouth speak one thing but your body says differently, Stacy.”“Don’t bet on it.” Feeling annoyance claw at my chest at his cocky words. “You don’t know me that well.”“Then let me know you.”

CHAPTER 18: Meeting Her God-Babies

STACYI stepped out of the elevator just in time to hear Tricia arguing with Rita. “She’s my best friend, what’s wrong with you? Let me in.”“I’m sorry, ma’am. But I can not just let you…” She paused, spotting me nearing them. “Let her in, Rita. She’s family.” I instructed. She immediately moved aside, words of apology already spewing from her mouth. But the person she was directing the apology to wasn’t mindful of it. Tricia breezed past. She stared at me, a bit of regret clouding her features, “I’m sorry, ma’am. I have no idea she’s…I was just trying to…”I placed a hand on her shoulder, my lips spread slightly in an assuring smile, “don’t worry, Rita. I know what you were trying to do and I’m more grateful for it. Shows you take your job seriously and would protect my kids from strangers. Thank you.”She opened her mouth, then closed it as if she was at loss for words. Finally, she nodded, “thank you, ma’am.”Tricia’s scream had Rita and I rushing inside. She grabbed all three k

CHAPTER 19: STROLLS AND STORIES

STACY “It’s been a while. Everything looks the same, but somehow I can see that some things have changed. Like that shop over there.” I pointed at a nice, little pawn shop, “it wasn’t there before. If I remember clearly, that space used to be a laundromat owned by that man from…was it Singapore? Thailand?”“He’s Korean, Stace. And yes, he got sick and had to move back to his country to be taken care of.”“He didn’t have any family here with him? I thought he was married?”“I have no idea. The man was quiet. Kept to himself.”“Yes, that he was.” I agreed, reminiscing the one time Tricia and I had gone to launder our clothes when they got too much and we couldn’t wash them all, “he was in his fifties then, so I just thought maybe he married.”“Maybe not everyone buys into the marriage thing. I know I don’t.” We were strolling our former street, Tricia confirmed she no longer lived in that apartment. Said she would take me where she lived currently if there was time. For now, we were

CHAPTER 20: HER BEST FRIEND’S HIDING SOMETHING

STACY“I don’t know what you mean. You’re just saying things.” I countered, bringing my cup of frappe to my lips.“You’re scared. You’re uncertain. And it’s okay to be all of these things but if he finds out about his kids, keeping him away from them would just be a selfish move on your part and if they grow to find out what you’ve done, whatever love and affection you showered them over the years won’t help your case by then, Stace.”“They won’t ever find out, and that’s final. He doesn’t have to know. It’s why I have to leave as soon as the contract is over. If I can even get it done in six months, I’m leaving.” I argued, keeping my tone level and without the nerves I was beginning to feel knot giving me away. “If you say so.” She shrugged, biting into her glazed doughnut, “their food is good. As good as your former working place.”“Hm.” I watched her, my mind refusing to file away the subject. One year might seem temporary but it was enough time for a determined man to get what wa
