ALEXANDEROlivia blinked, visibly thrown. “The one that kissed you?” she blurted, her voice a notch higher than usual. Her eyes widened at her own words. Her cheeks flushed pink, and she glanced down, clearly wishing she hadn’t said that. From the corner of the room, I heard Esrael stifle a laugh poorly.I turned my head just slightly and leveled him with a stare sharp enough to shut him up mid-breath. His amusement vanished.I brought my attention back to Olivia.“She was different,” I said, tone cool but steady. “That sky-blue gown… masked, elegant. Not one of those attention-seekers. Do you know her by any chance?”Olivia’s lips parted, but she hesitated, unsure of how to answer.“I… No, sir,” she said finally. “She was standing beside me, but I don’t know who she was. I only spoke to my friend, Ivy.”I narrowed my eyes, leaning forward just slightly.“You’re sure?” I asked. “Because before we went to the dance floor, I saw the three of you talking.”She tensed under my gaze. ALYONAMy heart wouldn’t stop racing. I found myself rushing around my room, half-dressed, half-ready, checking my reflection for the third time in five minutes. My palms were clammy, and no matter how many times I fixed my hair, it still didn’t look perfect, but I didn’t have time to stress over perfection. This was it. I stepped into my heels, grabbed my folder, and gave myself one last look in the mirror. “You’ve got this,” I whispered under my breath. “You have to.” Then I ran downstairs.Mom was standing in the kitchen, making tea. Her eyes widened when she saw me all dressed up.“Interview?” she asked, setting the spoon down.I nodded quickly and wrapped my arms around her. “Yes. It’s important, really important.” She kissed my forehead and placed her hand gently over my head, whispering a quiet prayer.“Go, Alyona. God will guide you. Just do your best.” I nodded, gave her one last squeeze, and dashed out the door. The cab was waiting at the end of the lane. I climbed in, gave

ALYONAI knocked gently on the door, heart thudding in my chest.“Come in,” a voice called from inside. I let out a shaky breath and straightened my spine. You’ve got this, Alyona. Go in there and prove you belong. With one last deep breath, I turned the handle and stepped inside. The room was wide and modern, lined with tall windows that poured soft sunlight across the polished floors. The air smelled faintly of citrus and paper—clean, professional. Three people sat at a long table facing me, their expressions unreadable as they glanced up.But my eyes drifted past them, pulled toward the tall figure standing by the window. He had his back to me, dressed in black, his presence somehow commanding even in silence.“Please, have a seat,” one of the interviewers said.I nodded and moved toward the chair, smoothing the back of my skirt before sitting down. My grip tightened on the folder in my lap.“What’s your name again?” the man on the left asked.I opened my mouth to answer—but then t

ALYONAI followed Olivia down the narrow corridor, my heart racing with equal parts excitement and nerves. She stopped in front of a heavy wooden door, “Where were you?” Olivia asked, her voice gentle but laced with concern.“Long story…” I murmured, not really ready to talk about it.Without pressing further, she gave a quick knock and then stepped in confidently.“Hello, sir,” she said with a bright smile. “She is Alyona Marshall.”She turned slightly toward me and added, “The one I mentioned.”I smiled politely, trying not to seem too nervous. Sitting behind a sleek desk was a man with a warm expression and sharp features—tall, with neatly combed dark hair and a calm presence that somehow put me at ease. He looked nothing like the strict boss I had imagined in my head. Instead, his smile felt genuine, the kind that reaches the eyes.“Hello, Alyona. I’m Esrael. Please, have a seat,” he said, motioning toward the chair across from him. I stepped forward, returning his smile, and exte

ALEXANDERIt was late—past office hours—but neither Esrael nor I made a move to leave. The city lights poured in through the glass walls of my office, flickering faintly across the polished floor. I leaned back in my chair, one hand wrapped around a glass of scotch, the other resting on the armrest. Esrael sat across from me, his own drink untouched, waiting for me to speak first.“It was an easy day,” I said, my voice low, calm. “The interviews didn’t take long. Most were easy to reject. Only a handful stood out... barely.”I swirled the drink in my hand, letting the silence stretch for a moment before continuing, “I also finalized a new contract today. One that makes sure the models know exactly who’s in control. There’s no room to breathe in that clause—no space to act smart or make mistakes.”Esrael raised a brow. “You really think they’ll sign that?”A smirk touched my lips. “Money, Esrael. Money can make anything happen.” I leaned forward, placing the glass gently on the table.

ALYONAI stood in my room, staring at my reflection in the mirror. My heart was beating faster than usual—today was the first day of my new job. I had been waiting for this moment for so long, but now that it was here, I couldn’t help but feel nervous. I looked down at the clothes spread across my bed. Most of them were too casual, and some were just too old. Working for a fashion brand meant appearances mattered. I remembered how the girls I had met during the interview had walked in—hair styled perfectly, makeup on point, dressed like they’d just stepped out of a magazine. I needed to look like I belonged there.A small smile tugged at my lips when my eyes landed on a set of neatly folded clothes in the corner of the wardrobe—Cassie’s. Before she left, she had told me to keep them, and now they felt like a gift. She always had a better sense of style than I did, and thankfully, we were the same size. I carefully picked out a soft beige blouse and paired it with the black skirt she u

Alexander Hunt. The very name that sent a shiver down the office. The man people whispered about like he was a myth. The so-called devil. The boss Olivia was terrified of. And now here I was, standing in front of him, smoothie-soaked and wide-eyed, after bumping into him like a complete idiot. He stood still, tall and composed, like not even a bomb could ruffle his calm. His cold, sharp gaze dropped to the stain on my dress, then slowly met mine. His eyes were unreadable. My heart pounded so hard I was sure he could feel it against my chest. My gaze flicked to Olivia at the end of the hallway. She pressed her fingers to her temple, that familiar gesture she’d made at the party, and mouthed, Get out.But I couldn’t move. Alexander stood perfectly still, his tailored blazer splashed with pink. Drops of strawberry smoothie covered one side of his face, making him look absurdly sweet—like cotton candy. A nervous giggle escaped me, and I immediately clamped a hand over my mouth.“I’m so so

What does that even mean? I stared at him, confused. His tone wasn’t loud anymore, but something about it made me uneasy. Why did he suddenly look so interested?Perhaps it had something to do with Esrael even someone like him couldn’t ignore that. Maybe that’s why he took a step back. But the reality remained—shareholders still held authority, and if he wanted to remove me, he probably could. I needed to tread carefully. One wrong move, and this job could slip right through my fingers.I swallowed my pride and softened my voice. “Listen, sir, I really am sorry. It was a mistake.”I gave him my best innocent look, even though in my head I was thinking, Sir, my foot. If I didn’t need this job so badly, I’d have dumped a whole bucket of mud on your head by now. But I held my tongue. If I wanted to survive here, I had to play it smart. So I replied calmly."I will not allow you to work here. Not at any cost." He smiled coldly and turned toward the door. His words echoed in my mind, tight

ALYONAAfter saying my goodbyes to Olivia, I stepped out of the building, not bothering to hide the hollowness that had settled deep inside me. The air felt colder than before, like it was reminding me of the harsh reality waiting to hit me full force—I had lost my job. My first day… and I already knew I wasn’t going back.I stood in front of the towering glass buildings, trying to swallow the lump in my throat. To my left stood the ENAMORE tower—the place that had chewed me up and spat me out before I could even find my footing. And with it came the thought of Alexander Hunt. Ruthless. Unbothered. A man whose voice still echoed in my ears like a warning bell. This wasn’t how I imagined my first day would end.Dragging my feet toward the crosswalk, I kept my head low, fighting the growing sting behind my eyes. Just as I was nearing the station, something down the street made me stop in my tracks. An older man lay curled up on the footpath, his back against the cold stone wall. He wore

ALYONAThe door creaked open slowly, and to my surprise, it wasn’t a neighbor or a landlord. It was Olivia. She stood there in her usual neat blazer, holding a small paper bag and smiling softly. For a second, I thought I was imagining her. I thought she was just stopping by to check in. “Olivia?” I breathed, stepping forward. But then she walked straight to me and wrapped her arms around me tightly. “Hey.”Mom, sensing the sudden shift in mood, smiled and excused herself to go change. Olivia waited until she disappeared down the hallway, then turned to me with a glimmer in her eyes.“You can come back,” she said, barely holding back her grin.My breath caught. “What?”“You’re back in. You still have your job.” I stared at her, speechless. It felt like the weight on my chest suddenly lifted, like someone had quietly pulled me out of a hole I didn’t know how to escape.“What… how?” I asked, heart racing.“Esrael spoke to Mr. Ruthless,” she said, rolling her eyes lightly at the nicknam
