MY OWN NAME

Amelia's POVFor most of my adult life, someone else's name came before mine.Ryan's wife.Mrs. Carter. The woman who lost three babies. The artist.Lucas's childhood friend. No matter where I went, someone always introduced me through another person.I couldn't remember the last time I had simply been Amelia. Not someone's responsibility. Not someone's regret. Not someone's future.Just me.Maybe that was why I knew what I had to do next. Not because I wanted to run away. But because I needed to meet the woman I'd become.Without either man standing beside me.---"I want to move out."The words left my mouth quietly over breakfast.Ryan looked up from his coffee. He didn't seem shocked.Only... sad."For good?"I shook my head."I don't know.""I just need time."He stared into his cup for a long moment before nodding."If that's what you need...""It is."He gave a small smile."Then I'll help you pack."I blinked."You'll help me?""If I love you..."He said softly."I have to sto

ALONE, NOT LONELY

Amelia's POVThere was a time when silence frightened me.If Ryan worked late; I waited. If he didn't call, I stared at my phone. If the house was empty; it felt too big, too quiet, too lonely.I used to believe loneliness meant being alone. Now, I knew better. You could feel lonely while lying beside the person you loved.And...You could feel completely at peace in an apartment with no one else inside. There was a difference.I was finally learning it.---A week had passed since moving into my apartment. The boxes were gone. The walls no longer echoed.Paintings rested against shelves, waiting for me to decide where they belonged.Books filled the little wooden bookcase beside the window. The small green plant Lucas had given me had somehow survived my care. Barely.I smiled every time I looked at it.Life here wasn't glamorous. There were no servants. No grand staircase. No luxury cars waiting outside.Just me.And somehow...That was enough.---The first thing I noticed about li

TWO GOOD MEN

Ryan's POVThere was a time when I thought love was a competition. If someone loved Amelia...Then they automatically became my enemy. If someone made her smile…I wondered what I had done wrong. If someone stood beside her...I felt the need to stand closer. That version of me no longer existed. Not because I had stopped loving her.But because I had finally understood something I should have learned years ago.Love isn't ownership. It never was.---Saturday morning began with an unexpected phone call.I was halfway through reviewing contracts when my phone vibrated. It was Martha."Ryan?""Morning.""I was cleaning the guest room.""Mm-hmm?""I found something that belongs to Amelia.""What is it?""Her old sketchbook."I frowned."The blue one?""Yes.""She searched everywhere for it before moving."I remembered. She had looked through every cupboard in the house. She'd even apologized to Martha for making such a mess."I'll take it to her."I said."Thank you."After ending the c

WALKING AWAY

Amelia's POVThere was a time when every decision I made revolved around someone else. What Ryan needed. What my family expected. What society believed. What everyone thought was right.I had spent years trying to become the woman other people wanted me to be.The perfect wife. The grieving mother. The forgiving woman. The brave survivor.Every version of me had belonged to someone else.Somewhere along the way, I had forgotten to ask a simple question.Who am I when no one is watching?Maybe that was the only question that truly mattered.---I asked Ryan and Lucas to meet me one last time. Not at the mansion. Not at my apartment. Not at the hospital. Not at the gallery.Instead, I chose the small hill overlooking the lake where Lucas and I had once skipped stones as children. The same place where silence had never felt uncomfortable. The same place where I had first realized that healing didn't always arrive with answers.Sometimes, it arrived with questions. When I reached the hill

LEARNING TO DREAM AGAIN

Amelia's POVPeople often imagine healing as a single moment. One conversation, one decision, you could just wake up one morning and everything that hurts you feel less. That wasn't how it happened for me.My healing began quietly; inside ordinary days, morning walks, fresh paints on canvas. My coffee brewed just the way I liked it. Conversations didn't drain me anymore. My laughter was more real, and less forced. My healing arrived quietly. Before I realized it I had stopped surviving.I had started living.---Six months had passed.Six peaceful, ordinary, beautiful months. The seasons changed without me noticing. The flowers outside my apartment bloomed and faded. The little plant Lucas had given me was no longer struggling to survive.Unlike its owner, it had finally learned to trust me.I laughed every time I looked at it.Life had become wonderfully predictable.Every morning, I opened my windows to the smell of fresh bread coming up from the bakery below.Every Wednesday, I vi

ONE LAST DATE

Amelia's POVThere was a time when Ryan never had to ask me to spend time with him.If he said my name...I came.If he asked me to dinner...I cancelled every other plan.If he smiled at me...My entire day became brighter.Back then loving him had been as natural as breathing.Somewhere between hospital corridors, silent dinners, forgotten anniversaries, and empty promises; we had stopped dating each other. We had become two people sharing a house instead of a life. Now, months after walking away he was asking me on a date. One final date. Not to win me back.Just... to say goodbye to the love we once shared.---My phone vibrated just after breakfast. It was Ryan.‘Would you have dinner with me tomorrow?’I stared at the message.’Another message arrived immediately.‘Not because I expect anything. Not because I want an answer.I just want to thank you for the years we had.’I smiled sadly.Even now, he was careful not to pressure me.After a long moment, I replied.‘Alright.One l

LOVE WITHOUT PRESSURE

Amelia's POVThere was a time when I thought love always came with urgency.Choose me. Fight for me. Prove yourself. Don't leave me. Stay.Maybe that was because every love story I'd ever known had been built around fear.Fear of losing someone. Fear of being forgotten.Fear of ending up alone. But somewhere along the way; love began teaching me a different language. One without deadlines. One without ultimatums. One without pressure. And the person teaching me never even realized he was doing it.---My solo exhibition was only three weeks away. The gallery buzzed with activity every day.Workers painted walls. Electricians adjusted lighting. Frames arrived one after another.Grace walked around carrying a clipboard, somehow managing to organize complete chaos without ever looking stressed."You've officially become impossible to schedule."She teased one afternoon.I laughed."I'll take that as a compliment.""You should."She pointed toward a stack of unopened boxes."Those need to

THE EMPTY NURSERY

Amelia's POVGrief has a strange way of hiding.People think it lives in anniversaries. In hospital rooms. In cemeteries.Sometimes it does. But sometimes it waits inside ordinary places.A tiny sweater folded inside a drawer.A rocking chair that has never been used.A painted wall waiting for laughter that never came. For years, one room had remained frozen in time. Not because I couldn't enter it.Because I couldn't bear to let it go.Today, I knew it was time.---I called Ryan the night before."There is something I need to do."His voice softened immediately."What is it?""I need to go back to the house."A long silence followed. Then he quietly asked,"The nursery?""Yes.""I'll meet you there.""I think..."I hesitated."I need to do it alone."He didn't argue. He simply answered,"I'll unlock the house.""Take all the time you need."---The following morning, I drove to the mansion. It had been months since I last stood in front of it.The grand gates opened slowly.Nothing

BRAVE ENOUGH TO HOPE

Amelia's POVThere was a time when I couldn't walk past the baby section in a store.Tiny shoes. Little blankets. The soft sound of newborn laughter. They all felt like reminders of everything I had lost.I used to believe grief would always speak louder than hope. That every pregnant woman I saw would remind me of the babies I never got to hold. That every child would reopen wounds that had never truly healed. But healing is strange. It doesn't erase your scars. It simply teaches you that your scars don't have to define every tomorrow. The greatest proof that you've healed isn't that you stop crying. It's that you can help someone else through the tears you once couldn't survive yourself.---Saturday mornings had become my favorite part of the week. The children's art charity buzzed with life before I even arrived.Bright paintings covered the walls.Tables overflowed with crayons, colored pencils, and jars of paint.Tiny handprints decorated one corner of the room. The building alw

A HOME FULL OF LIGHT

Amelia's POVPeople say a house is only made of bricks and walls. They're wrong. A house remembers. It remembers laughter echoing through empty hallways.Arguments whispered behind closed doors.Birthdays. Christmas mornings. Sleepless nights.Promises. Goodbyes. For years, the mansion Ryan and I had shared held every version of our marriage. The happiest days. The loneliest nights. The dreams we built. The grief that slowly buried them.I used to think those walls would stand forever.I was wrong.Sometimes, the kindest thing you can do is stop asking a place to carry memories that have already become too heavy.---Ryan called me on a quiet Thursday afternoon."Are you busy?""I just finished painting.""Would you mind meeting me?"His voice sounded calm. Not anxious, not hopeful; just... peaceful."Where?""At the house."I looked out the window of my apartment. For a moment, I hesitated. The mansion no longer felt like home.It felt like a photograph from another life."I'll come.
