Chapter 61

CHAPTER SIXTY-ONE HARPER’S POV Everything was going well until that lady arrived. I knew that Caspian wasn’t himself, but I wasn’t about to make things easier for him, knowing fully that he was guilty of whatever was making him nervous at that moment. Severally, he looked at me, probably to see if I was upset, but he couldn’t even get to keep eye contact with me for more than a few seconds. I realized that the lady was someone he must have done some nasty stuff with in the past. “Is she the reason why you refused to take my calls and reply to my messages?” The lady asked rudely, but I chose to ignore her demeanor, hoping that Caspian was going to be man enough to speak up. “Gina? I need you to leave, okay? This is not the right time and place.” Caspian finally spoke up, but for some reason the lady scoffed at his words. “You don’t even remember my name. Gosh! You are such a horrible person, and I wonder how many girls you have been with. You promised that you were going to call

Chapter 62

ASHER’S POV That evening, I had a lot on my mind. But nothing surpassed the feeling that I had about the news that Sylvia gave me. It had been over a week since she told me that she was pregnant, but I was still unable to process the whole thing in my head. Reality had hit me like a cannonball, and I didn’t even think I had shielded myself against its hit. Sylvia had been ranting about how I chose to abandon her at that very point in time, and I could only conclude that she was being overly dramatic. But on the other hand, she was right. Who wouldn’t think the same way with the kind of attitude I displayed ever since she told me about the pregnancy? I reminded myself of the thought that I had to get rid of, knowing what it was going to cause between us. I thought of asking Sylvia if she was certain that I was the father of the child, and that would have made me worse than the devil himself. Of course, I knew that she was sleeping with no other person than me, but the unreadiness

Chapter 63

ASHER’S POV I stared at Sylvia for a while, and seeing the look on her face, I knew that she wasn’t mincing words, but I didn’t think I was ready to do something like that. “Don’t you think we will be acting so much in a hurry if we leave immediately? I have to call Caspian to inform him that we will be coming to the City.” “You can do that while we are on our way, Asher. Don’t sound like we are begging him for accommodation. We can rent an apartment or better still, we can go to my brother’s place. He has a mansion, and it doesn’t seem like he stays with anyone.” “No, I am not doing that. No way.” I refused to agree with her last suggestion, but she was still insistent that we leave at that moment. “This is not as difficult as you are making it sound, Asher. All you need to do is pack a few things and we are on our way. It’s that simple.” “Not as simple as you make it sound, Sylvia. Do you know what it takes to move to another City?”“Yes, I do!” She nodded after her quick res

Chapter 64

ASHER’S POV The next day, I was awake a bit later than I expected. I searched for Sylvia all over the place, but she was nowhere to be found. The thought that she was already out that early made me realize that my thoughts could be justifiable. There was something obviously going on with her, and the fact that I couldn’t figure it out made me very curious. I was about to call her on the phone when the sound of the door being unlocked from the outside made me stop. I lowered my right hand which was holding onto the phone while I turned to face the door. “Where are you coming from?” I asked while she was still walking into the house after she opened the door. “I went for a run.” She said, and I had to observe her again just to be certain that she was telling the truth. “It doesn’t look like you actually went for a run, Sylvia. Where did you go?” I looked at her outfit again, and I confirmed that I was right. Her clothes were too fanciful for someone who went for a run. Besides, i

Chapter 65

HARPER’S POV I noticed that Caspian was acting really strange that morning, but I figured that it could be as a result of everything the previous day. I had really given him a reason to have a rethink, and he definitely needed to do so. I could only wonder what kind of person he was, and that would have led me to regret choosing him, but when I remembered who else I would have chosen instead of him, I realized that it wasn’t really about the Devil you knew. I managed to get ready for work, and the Nanny came to stay with Will before I left. He knew that my mind was occupied, but he was really having a lot of fun with the favorite things he loved to do. Who would have thought that there was going to be a time when Will was going to be excited in that new city?I was lucky to get a taxi earlier than I expected. I thought I was going to wait for so long before one would pull over in front of me. “Where to, Gorgeous?” One of the most charming taxi drivers I had ever seen brought his

Chapter 66

HARPER’S POV Gently, she continued marching towards me as though she was getting ready for war. I knew that she didn’t come peacefully, and I had to brace up for the impact. For a moment, I admired her bracelets and her pearly gown, but when I remembered that she didn’t look pleasant, I had to remain focused and call myself to order. “Mrs Garrison? You are here.” Those were the only words I could say at that moment, but I knew that I was wrong to have addressed her as such. I couldn’t hide my nervousness, and she couldn’t hide her displeasure as well. “Mrs Garrison? Is that what my son told you to call me?” She frowned, and I stood up almost immediately as a sign of respect for my Boss’s mother. “I am sorry, ma’am. I didn’t know what to address you as.” I said in my defense, but that wasn’t going to save me from her glare. “Samone is fine.” She retorted at once, her eyes looked around the space before she continued. “I wonder why Fred decided to keep you here. What’s that your

Chapter 67

HARPER’S POV I could see the tension written all over Samone’s face, I couldn’t understand why she was so worried about me when she was supposed to be concerned about making up with her son. “Diana?” Fred called me back to reality after I had drifted for a few seconds. I just looked at him as though I didn’t remember the question he asked. “I asked you a question, Diana. Was Samone here to see me? Or did she come to cause some trouble?”Of course, Fred knew who his mother was, but I couldn’t give him the particular response he was expecting. The look on his face was something I had never seen before, and at that moment I could tell that he was really angry. “She came to see you, boss. She was leaving after I told her that you were yet to come to work.” I lied for the sake of Samone who didn’t deserve any sympathy. I could see that she was relieved, and I gave her a look that indicated that she owed me. “Freddy? I can’t believe that you would do this to me in front of your employ

Chapter 68

ASHER’S POV An hour had passed since I brought Sylvia to the hospital, but no one had said anything to me. I was afraid that something was going to happen to the baby, and that made me realize that I really cared. I hated the fact that I was in that situation, I didn’t like to be on the edge. But for a long time, that seemed to be the only thing I had learned how to do. So many situations were making me very anxious, and I wondered when I was going to be alright. First, I tried to speak to all the nurses, but they all seemed to be in a hurry except one who was kind enough to speak to me. “Relax, Sir. You need to calm down, we are doing everything that possible to handle the situation.” Her words were not comforting, but I was glad that she didn’t ignore me like the others. I watched as she walked away, leaving me all alone to deal with my anxiety. I had no other choice but to continue pacing all over the place until I heard the sound of the door opening. “Doctor?! How is she?!”

Chapter 69

CASPIAN’S POV When Asher told me he was coming to my City, I couldn’t believe him until he told me he was already there. That was so shocking for me, and I wondered why he made the sudden decision without speaking to me first. I knew that he didn’t think I could do it alone, and I didn’t blame him. I had failed woefully to do something that wasn’t supposed to be so difficult for me. Diana was the only woman who I couldn’t get to fall for me, and that made me want to get her even when it seemed like the odds were against me. I had reminded my cousin of our impromptu meeting that evening. Still, he didn’t seem so interested in it, probably because there was some other thing occupying him at that moment. But he had given me the impression that he was only interested in the deal when he rushed to the City. Diana didn’t reply to the text I sent her earlier that day, notifying her that I wasn’t going to be home early, but something told me that she saw the message and purposefully didn

Chapter 70

HARPER’S POV It had been a week since the incident at the restaurant, but Caspian had not stopped with his attempts to make up for his mistakes. I was glad that he was remorseful for his actions, but giving him a second chance was something I couldn’t just do willingly. First of all, Caspian was obviously a player, and I wonder why it took me that long to realize that. Maybe it was because he was since known, and choosing him against Asher seemed like a better option. Apparently, nothing was going to make me regret not choosing Asher because he would have been my worst nightmare, and that wasn’t going to end well with me and my son. Speaking of Will, he had started warming up to Caspian, the same man whom he considered a terrible person for no reason. I wondered what he must have done to get my son to speak so highly of him. “I like Uncle Dave.” He said as he fondly called him, and while I was still trying to figure out if the smile on his face was real, he continued. “I thought
