CaraJenny’s fingers moved higher, brushing the hem of the shirt. “He was blind, Cara.”“You’re a fucking goddess.”I leaned my head on her shoulder. Her arm came around me, pulling me closer. The food grew cold on the table, but neither of us moved to eat. Her hand slid under my shirt, palm flat against my bare stomach. Not pushing. Not grabbing. Just… resting there, warm and steady.I turned my face into her neck, breathing her in. Her fingers traced the edge of my panties where my shirt had ridden up. “Let me help you clear your sorrows.”I looked up at her. Her eyes were dark, pupils blown. She didn’t look at me like I was broken. She looked at me like I was something worth wanting.I reached for her hoodie, pulling her down until our mouths met. The kiss started slowly. Then it deepened, tongues sliding, breath mingling. When I finally tugged my shirt open, her eyes dropped to my bare breasts and she made a soft sound in her throat.“Fuck, Cara. You’re so beautiful.”Her mouth

CaraAfter work I went straight to the mall. I found a set of luxury golf clubs in his favorite brand, the kind he had mentioned once when we were at a charity event. I also picked out a new watch, something expensive but simple. Nothing too flashy. The store employee wrapped everything up while I stood there feeling lighter than I had in weeks. I paid and drove home, the gift sitting on the passenger seat like a promise. That evening I got ready. I chose a soft red dress that made my skin glow. My hair was down in loose waves. I added just a little lipstick and mascara. When I looked in the mirror I saw a woman who had been kissed properly. I smiled at myself and whispered, “Tonight you stop being invisible, Cara.”I picked up the gift box and drove to Noah’s parents’ house. The place was huge and full of lights and people in expensive suits. His father spotted me first and gave me a big hug. “Cara, you look beautiful tonight. Noah is going to be so happy to see you.”I smiled p

CaraI woke up the next morning with my eyes still red and my mind spinning like a broken record. The image from last night kept looping in my head. Noah bent over that couch, face pressed against the wall, Humphrey slamming into him from behind. The wet sounds. The loud groans. Noah moaning like he was begging for it. I sat up in bed and rubbed my face hard, trying to shake it off. But it would not go away. My stomach turned every time I thought about it. Three months. Three months of him saying he was not in the mood, and all that time he was saving it for another man. I felt stupid. I felt sick. But mostly I felt angry at myself for even caring so much.I got up and stood in front of the mirror, staring at my tired eyes. “You are not going to break, Cara,” I whispered to my reflection. “You saw the truth. You saw him with Humphrey. You saw the man you were forced to marry was into him. Now you can finally walk away.” I took a deep breath and got dressed. I wore a simple black s

AvaThe roar of the crowd was still ringing in my ears as I sank the final shot. The ball swished through the net, and just like that, we won. My teammates screamed and rushed me on the court, jumping and hugging. I could barely breathe through all the excitement. My legs felt like jelly after running the whole game, sweat dripping down my back under my jersey.Coach Hale stood on the sidelines watching everything with that intense look he always had. Tall, broad shoulders, salt and pepper hair, and those dark eyes that seemed to see right through you. He was forty two but built like he could still play. Everyone respected him. He had turned our team around this season. After the celebration died down a bit, he waved me over. "Ava, come with me for a quick talk," he said in that deep voice. My heart jumped a little. I followed him down the hallway to the women's locker room. Most of the girls were still out on the court or heading to the bus, so the place was empty and quiet. He cl

AvaThe morning light filtered through my curtains like an unwelcome intruder, casting long shadows across my room. I lay there, staring at the ceiling, my body still humming with the ghost of last night’s sins. The way he had claimed me against those cold tiles, his eyes burning with raw possession. I should have felt regret. Shame. Instead, a dangerous heat coiled low in my belly at the memory. My phone buzzed on the nightstand, shattering the silence. Marcus: Wear the black shorts today.I frowned, heat rising to my cheeks. Another message followed immediately.Marcus: And don’t talk to Jaden. The audacity. I wasn’t his girlfriend. I wasn’t his anything except maybe his dirty little secret. Yet my fingers hovered over the screen, and deep down, I knew I would obey. The pull he had over me was terrifying.By the time I reached the court, anger still simmered beneath my skin. Lena spotted it instantly, her sharp eyes narrowing as she stretched beside me.“You look like you’re rea
