Instead of a response, Cicero’s thumbs hook into the waistband of my shorts, and he pulls them down as far as they’ll go.“Take them off,” he orders, voice so deep, sending a shiver rolling down my spine.“I thought this wasn’t sex,” I say shakily.“This is everything, sweet Nell. Prove how determined you are to get away from me. Now, take it off.”I don’t argue again. Instead, I bend, remove the rest of the trousers, and toss them to the side.“Good girl, he purrs, sliding down his own shorts. I feel his length brush across my backside, and my body shamefully tightens with visceral need.I am indeed a shame to womanhood. He drags his fingers through my pussy, and my hips quiver. I keep my gaze down, feeling so ashamed of myself when I catch sight of the plastic bag containing my ticket out of here just a little stretch in front.I push my body forward, nudging my face to get to it.“You are a heart thief, Nelle. You stole my heart, and now you want to dump me and make me miserable.”

His lips slide along my cheek, whispering, “Such a good girl. Now, go get some rest and come down for food. We’ll set up some ground rules once you’ve eaten.” He tips his head to the door. “You know where to go. Move.”I glare at him and conjure the energy to stand. Oxygen flows through my lungs like they were never full of water, but I’m still shaking like a leaf.Slowly, I muster the strength to rise and head to the entrance door. He takes a moment to retrieve the plastic bag containing my personal belongings, and that is just enough time for me to hurry away to my room instead of his room, which he expected me to go to.I hear him snarl, and my stomach tightens with fear. But I don’t stop moving. When I get to my room this time around, I literally pull all my furniture to the door, including my bed.I sit right there, waiting to hear him, but there's nothing. After what seems like almost ten minutes, I finally hear his footsteps, and then his voice follows. “You need to come down f

“Time to get up, Nell,” I hear Cicero say to me.Here it comes…Even in my subconscious, I can’t get him to leave me alone.I open my eyes and look around. I’m still in my room; I’m on my side, curled into a ball without a stitch of clothing on.But at least I’m still in my room. He didn’t drag me to his room. That’s a win for me. Have to count even the littlest things henceforth.Midday sunlight streams through the blinds, and Cicero stands beside the bed dressed in jeans and a tee.I sit up and hug a pillow to my chest, glaring at him as I brush my hair out of my eyes.“You need to eat,” he says as he heads toward the door.I stare after him for a minute as my eyes track around the room. The room has been tidied up, and even the clothes I threw on the chair have been kept in the hamper bin.My head feels heavy, and my mind feels drowsy. I hobble to the bathroom and wash myself thoroughly before getting quickly dressed.Rushing back into my room, I strip the bed and throw my sheets

Cicero slowly turns to our new guests.Frank looks from Cicero to me before settling his gaze solely on me, with a small twitch on the corner of his mouth.Papa is all smiles when he sees me, but as I get closer, he frowns. “Didn’t get enough sleep, June?” he asks, opening one of his arms for a hug.I walk into his open arms and force out a small smile. “Welcome home, Papa,” I murmur.“Thank you,” he responds and turns to his son, who is now standing with his hands in his pants pockets.Cicero shrugs, “She was in a hurry to come home. You know how she can get.”Frank walks over to the other side of the living room to take a seat. He’s not regarded as a visitor by the Russos anymore. So, getting comfortable is one of the things he does freely whenever he visits. One of the officers clears his throat, and we all turn to him.“Uh, Jane,” Papa calls. “This is Detective Chad. He’s been working on your mom’s case alongside Detective Ferguson, who has now moved on to other cases. Detective C

My entire body goes rigid with shock before it starts shaking. I swallow down, and instead of looking around like I desperately want to, I turn to face Frank.“Where is he?”“Doesn’t matter,” he replies. “I looked into him; he’s making plans, Miss Handez.”“Plans?” I whisper.“…on getting signed by the Islanders team next season. Meet-ups are already being scheduled as we speak.”My eyes immediately start searching the arena as I forget about Cicero entirely.“W-where is he?” I ask Frank again, becoming desperate when I don’t see him.Frank sighs, still calm, not even a single bone on his face shifting.“Where is he, Frank?” I repeat.“Take a picture, Janelle. Cicero is waiting.”I turn around to see Cicero standing on the ice, hands on his waist, eyes on me.Shit, shit, shit.I wave at him and flash him a smile. Then I push the camera up and take several pictures of him posing lazily. His gaze remains on me for a long while before he finally looks away, seemingly satisfied there’s no
