Chapter 1

Lily Smith threw a red plastic bag containing a pig heart at me. “Jared and I carefully chose this pig heart. Since a heart transplant is useless now, you can cook it and bring it as an extra dish to her funeral. Treat it as a gift from us.” Jared Anderson dragged the body bag containing the corpse from the hospital bed onto the floor, like it was a bag of trash. “I recall that the cardiology department is short on hospital beds. It was impossible to imagine that Lily used to love Jared to death. She was staring at him with an all-consuming hatred. She used to love him so much that she would praise him for being kind and understanding. Jared took a step back and looked at Lily innocently. “Dr. Smith, your mother’s death has nothing to do with me. I never once asked you to transfer the available heart to my mother. I didn’t ask you to dismember the corpse either. I even tried to stop you. Have you forgotten about that?”He was right. Jared had never blatantly asked for anything. Instead, he did that so Lily would not recognize that it was Maryam prematurely and spoil his plans. He disfigured Maryam on purpose. Jared was absolutely inhumane. If I were able to figure out his intentions, Lily would be able to do that too. She was trembling with anger. “He’s been lying to me from the start! How dare he? She was still unwilling to sign the divorce papers, and she requested to see me again. I rejected her request. I treated my friend who worked at the hospital to a meal. It was because of her help that I was able to discover Jared’s crime of organ trafficking and report it to the police. My friend was named Amber White. I knew her from high school. When I found out that she worked in the same hospital as Lily, I was a little surprised. I chatted with her briefly when I brought Lily her lunch box.
