The SUV raced through the dark forest. Rain poured from the sky. The road was wet and slippery.Zack held the steering wheel tightly. His eyes stayed on the road. Then he looked in the mirror. His face became hard."They're still behind us."Belli turned around. Two black SUVs were racing after them. Their headlights shone through the rain. They were getting closer. Her heart sank."They won't stop," she whispered."No," Zack said. "Marcus never stops."A soft cry came from the back seat.Belli quickly looked at Emily. Her sister's face was pale. Blood covered her shirt. It was still flowing from her shoulder."No..." Belli whispered. She pressed her jacket against the wound. Her hands shook. The blood kept soaking through.Tears filled her eyes."Please stay with me," she said softly. "Please. I just got you back. Don't leave me now."Emily slowly opened her eyes. She looked at Belli and gave a weak smile."I'm... trying."Belli held her hand tightly."You promised we would fix every

The bridge was gone.Wood and metal crashed into the river below. The sound echoed through the trees. Marcus and his men stood on the other side, shouting. Their voices faded as Zack, Belli, and Emily ran deeper into the woods.Belli held Emily’s hand tight. Her sister’s fingers were cold. Wet with rain and blood. Every step made Emily cry out in pain. Belli’s arm burned from supporting her weight. Her legs felt heavy. Her lungs burned with every breath. Branches scratched her arms. Wet leaves stuck to her shoes.Zack led the way. His gun stayed in his hand. His eyes scanned the trees. “Keep moving,” he said. “We can’t stop.”Emily stumbled. Belli caught her. “I’ve got you,” she whispered. “Just a little further.”Emily’s breathing was shallow. Her face was pale. “I’m sorry,” she said. Her voice was weak. “For everything.”Belli shook her head. Tears mixed with the rain on her face. “Don’t talk. Save your strength.”They reached a small cave hidden in the rocks. Zack checked inside fi

The old car rumbled down the dark road. The engine made a low, steady sound. Rain tapped lightly on the roof. Belli sat in the back seat with Emily. Her sister’s head rested on her shoulder. Emily’s breathing was shallow but steady. Her hand was still cold in Belli’s. Zack drove. His eyes stayed on the road. His hands gripped the wheel. Every few seconds he checked the mirrors. His jaw was tight. A small cut on his arm had started bleeding again. The smell of blood mixed with the wet leather seats. Belli looked out the window. Trees passed by in a blur. The night was dark. Only the car’s headlights cut through it. Her mind kept replaying the bridge. The gunshots. Emily’s voice. The way her sister had looked at her. Emily stirred. Her eyes opened slowly. She winced as she tried to sit up. Belli helped her. Emily’s fingers dug into Belli’s arm. Her face twisted. She pressed her lips together to hold back a cry. “You’re really here,” Emily said. Her voice was weak. She reached up and

The cabin was quiet. The fire crackled softly in the fireplace.Emily had finally fallen asleep. Her breathing was slow and steady. The pain medicine had eased her suffering.Belli pulled a blanket over her sister. She smiled faintly."I'm glad you're still here," she whispered.Emily didn't answer. She was already asleep.Across the room, Zack stood by the window. His eyes scanned the dark forest.Something didn't feel right.Sarah walked over."What is it?"Zack frowned."The road outside."Sarah looked through the window."What about it?""There are fresh tire tracks."Her face changed."I erased the old ones before bringing you here."Silence.Belli looked at them."What does that mean?"Zack slowly reached for his gun."It means someone else came here."A chill ran through the room.Sarah immediately switched off the cabin lights.Darkness swallowed the house.Only the fire gave off a faint orange glow."No one makes a sound," Sarah whispered.Outside...The man hiding behind the

The safe house felt smaller that night. The fire had died down to glowing embers. The only light came from a single candle on the table. Its flame flickered, casting soft shadows across the wooden walls.Belli lay in the big bed, staring at the ceiling. Her body still ached from everything that had happened. But her mind wouldn’t rest. Emily was safe in the other room. Sarah had left hours ago. It was just the three of them now.Zack walked into the room. His shirt was open, showing the hard lines of his chest. Tattoos peeked out from the edges. His eyes locked on Belli. Dark. Hungry. He closed the door behind him.Neither of them spoke.Belli sat up slowly. Her heart pounded. Heat pooled between her legs. She had been thinking about him all night. The way he protected her. The way he fought for them. The way his body felt against hers.Zack walked to the bed. He stopped in front of her. His hand reached out and gently touched her cheek. His thumb brushed her lower lip.“You’ve been d
