Jasmine’s POV A few minutes after Tristan’s visit to my desk, I went straight to his office to give him a piece of my mind. I placed both hands on Tristan’s desk the same way he had planted them on mine. The wood was cool and solid under my palms. I leaned forward until our eyes were level and held the contact without blinking. “If you ever intercept my communications again,” I said, “I will quit. And you will lose every advantage that comes with me being inside this building.” The threat was not empty, and we both knew it. Tristan did not raise his voice, instead he stood and came around the desk, stopping two feet in front of me, close enough that I had to tip my chin up to keep the eye contact I had chosen. “Every person currently interested in your power is a threat,” he said.
