Ella's POVWith a sickening crunch, the little clay moon she had rolled seven or eight times popped off the top, hit the floor, and was stomped flat under his shoe.Lily froze in place. My heart tore open, hurting just as much as that smashed lighthouse."Mommy spent a long time making that!"Lily's eyes instantly turned red. She lunged forward and shoved Noah.Noah stumbled back and fell right into Margaret's arms."Oh my god! My precious boy, are you okay?" Margaret hugged him tight."Grandma! Lily hit me again!"Realizing his grandma had caught him safely, Noah buried his face in his hands and started wailing, though he was secretly peeking at Lily through his fingers.Lily's tiny hands were balled into tight fists at her sides. She was naturally strong. When she was younger and couldn't control her strength, she had accidentally hurt Noah a few times.Ever since then, Margaret never really liked her and kept her away from Noah. And Noah had learned to run straight to his grandma's

Ella's POVMy wolf let out a low growl in my chest. Margaret's answer didn't just insult Lily; it insulted all she-wolves.I thought back to the miserable days I spent in the pack. I had assumed that because Lily grew up with so much more wealth than I did, she'd never have to go through the same unfair treatment I suffered. But I was wrong. She was much more sensitive and perceptive than I imagined. She was so smart that she clearly picked up on the favoritism the adults thought they had hidden so well.My heart ached at the thought. After all these years, I had failed to protect her, leaving her with such deep childhood trauma."Besides school, Noah gets different teachers coming to the pack to give him private lessons on weekends and holidays," Lily said, her voice dropping a little."I wanted to sit in, but Noah kicked me out. He said I didn't need to learn it.""Because you always mess around in class and distract me!"Noah chimed in, filled with the self-righteousness typical of

Ella's POVDamien pressed his lips together and stared at me, saying nothing.I knew he already had all the answers in his head."You still care about Noah," his voice dropped low. It sounded like he was stating a fact, but also testing the waters."You're just giving him the cold shoulder to punish him, waiting for him to regret it. For the Moon Goddess's sake, Ella, he's only five!"Five.Of course I knew that. A pup his age was supposed to be spoiled. I knew that better than anyone. But I didn't have the right to spoil him anymore. It wasn't that I didn't want to. It was because every single time I reached out, I was pushed away by everyone in that house—including Noah himself."Since I decided to leave the pack, I never planned on looking back."As I said it, the mate mark on my neck burned faintly. Our mating bond hadn't disappeared. It stretched between Damien and me, a constant reminder that he hadn't formally rejected me yet.Damien felt it, too.I saw his right hand clench un

Ella's POV"Of course I do," he answered without missing a beat. "I'll have him give you a call in a bit. He's always handled our family trust.""I appreciate it, Nathan."He gave a small "mhm" and then went on."My grandfather... he's been pretty sick lately. A couple of days ago, he kept bringing you up from his hospital bed, asking how you were doing."My grip on the phone tightened. A sudden wave of guilt swelled in my chest.James Locke. My mentor at the werewolf academy, the man who wanted to hand his entire research lab over to me back in the day.I hadn't seen him in seven years.I heard myself say, "I'd like to go visit him soon. Is he up for visitors?"Hearing that, Nathan sounded genuinely happy."How about tomorrow? It's my day off. I'll go with you.""Sounds good."After hanging up, I pressed my phone against the steering wheel, rested my forehead on it, and closed my eyes to think for a long time.I never expected my mentor to still be thinking about me after all these y

Ella's POVHe slammed his hands on the table and shot up, rattling the plates so hard some crashed to the floor. His alpha aura exploded through the room, even making the chandelier sway."Are you insane?! The economy is in a downturn, nobody is buying stocks! In a few days, you're going to lose every single penny!"I watched his face turn bright red over money. I realized that aside from the tiny shred of genuine affection this male wolf had for his mate—my mother—he was practically worthless in every other way."Dad, you already made a fortune selling me to Damien seven years ago. That money was enough to keep you and the entire pack living large for a lifetime. Are you really still not satisfied?"Before I even finished speaking, his pupils shrank instantly. In his mind, an omega taking the lead to defy an alpha was the ultimate offense. He grabbed the heavy dining plate in front of him and hurled it straight at my head.I didn't have time to dodge. I instinctively squeezed my eyes
