Astrid “I hate you.” I snarled at him but the idiot actually chuckled. He seemed satisfied at my doom. Just so he could satisfy his own greed. Not only do I hate Derek. His whole lineage of users disgust me. I was a little girl when my father betrothed me to the Knightdale pack. I was given to the younger out of the two brothers who would be the future successors of the pack in exchange for a rise in political power and rank for my father and the whole of our own pack and also a position of being an alpha made available for Derek to inherit in our own pack. Now I see why the Knightdale pack would easily agree to marry one of their sons off to our low rank pack. Maybe Mother had known this day would come. Maybe that was why she taught me to hide. It was for moments like this. In her words, “They are inevitable. Just be careful Astrid.” She foresaw this even before it happened. And she couldn't even be here to see me through my ordeals. Death took her from me a few w

Astrid Time stood still. Everyone in the hall froze, processing what Alpha Knox just said. When it finally seemed as though I had not imagined it, that it had actually happened. I jerked away, my legs moving back a step. No one had stood up for me before. Not even my own father when I was branded a disgrace. And now the Alpha King? He doesn't even know I exist. And now he stood up for me? My mind couldn't easily come to terms with the fact quickly enough and when I looked back at him he was still staring at me. His golden eyes scanned me like an open book. What does he want from me? He surely didn't help me because he felt sorry for me. Everyone knows he had no sympathy. “Should I, Derek?” He repeated calmly, a type of calm that speaks volumes. I watched Derek fidgeting for the first time since I have known him. “I uhmm… I don't…” Derek stammered, his jaw clenched and his fist tightened so hard they literally turned white but he couldn't dare say the wrong things. And despite m

Astrid I looked behind me, the undoubtedly black gown of my ex mother in law showed and the usual scowl on her face had etched deeper on her skin.“Ahh.” I mouthed. Realizing what Laila just did. Epic performance. She just made me look like the bad guy.Too bad. I don't give a damn anymore.“What is going on?” Mrs Knightdale repeated, her eagle-like eyes moving between me and Laila who was still on her knees, a sorrowful look plastered on her face.“Help me beg Astrid. She's mad at me.” Laila choked out through sobs and I couldn't help but marvel at her ever ending performance.Mrs Knightdale faced me, she looked really pissed. Definitely from me rejecting her son. I knew she would use that opportunity to lash out at me now.“What happened,” She asked icily.“I can't even say it out loud,” Laila cries. “I'm sure Astrid is still traumatized by the reason she rejected Derek. Don't mind me, Mrs Knightdale. I'll just be as supportive as I can.”Mrs Knightdale's expression softened a fra

Knox“Behave!”I growled at Alex, my wolf. The annoying thing purred instead, its spirit more alive than it had been for so many years. I can't remember the last time Alex had purred so gleefully.“She's perfect.” He had whispered after I had left the mating hall earlier. It took every ounce of restraint not to march back into that hall and claim her. “Don't talk about her, Alex.” "Astrid is special," Alex growled. He wasn't wrong.Somehow, she'd done the impossible. She'd caught my attention.I don't know how my stupid brother would cheat on her.I have always known Derek to be unruly and too ambitious. He had gaslighted Astrid to believe he likes her and wants to mate her. And the innocent girl had believed him. For years I had watched him go on with this but I didn't interfere because it was none of my business. Right now, things are different. She is my business now.I had purposely come to disrupt the mating ceremony between her and my brother in order to stop a greater event.

AstridMy head was a mess.I didn't even know how long I'd been standing under the shower. The water was so hot that my skin was already burning, but I didn't care enough to turn it off.I just stood there right under the steam thinking. Thinking about my father's office. His words. I knew it would hurt later on. Him calling me worthless. The word kept playing over and over in my head until I wanted to scream. Not out of pain but to make myself get past it just like he did to me.Then, somehow, my thoughts drifted to Knox.I squeezed my aching nipple and bit my lip when a soft whimper escaped me.Damn it.Why was I thinking about him?Truthfully, he has been on my mind a whole lot, his smell, his eyes, his voice. “Stop, Astrid.” I groaned. But no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't get his body out of my head.Even those tattoos, perfectly crafted to cover his skin. The way he had looked at me.And that big… thing.Yeah.I definitely wanted to see that again.Soon.Very soon.I shook
