Kelly’s POVI got to Dylan’s house later than I'd planned, the sky was already dark and the entrance light was glowing warm against the front steps, I refused to feel ashamed for the reason why I was late. As I got to the door, I could hear voices from inside before I even unlocked the door. Laughter spilled through, loud and familiar, making my chest loosened in a way it never did at work.As I walked in, the smell hit me first. It had a delicious scent of garlic, onions and some herbs, something was roasting in the oven, and it smelled like home. My mother was at the stove with an apron tied too tightly around her waist, stirring a pot like she was fighting with it, and my father stood at the counter pretending to help, which mostly meant stealing pieces of food when she wasn’t looking. Dylan on the other hand, leaned against the fridge, scrolling through his phone.“There she is,” my dad announced the second he saw me. “The working woman.”My mother turned, and her face lit up.
