Janelle's POV The phone slipped from my fingers. If Zane hadn't reached out so quickly, it would have shattered against the polished wooden floor. No! This couldn't be happening! Not now, not after everything. My knees buckled beneath me, and I sank onto the edge of the bed, both hands covering my mouth as tears spilled freely down my cheeks."My father can't die, I don't want to lose him”A sob tore from my chest."He's... he's all I have left. I spent two years angry at him for giving me this ultimatum, I thought he cared more about Sterling House than he cared about me. I wanted him to be proud of me. Everything I've done... I did it because I wanted him to look at me and know I was worthy of carrying our family name, I never wanted to disappoint him.”Warm hands gently rested on my shoulders and I looked up.Zane was kneeling in front of me.His expression remained calm despite the urgency in his eyes.Janelle."I tried to speak, but another sob escaped instead. He squeezed my ha

Janelle's POV Relief flooded through me so suddenly that fresh tears blurred my vision. For the first time since I had stepped into the intensive care unit, I allowed myself to believe that perhaps everything wasn't lost.Maybe fate was finally giving us another chance.I squeezed his hand gently, unable to stop smiling through my tears."We're going to get through this, Dad," I whispered, more to reassure myself than him. "You're going to get better. We still have so much time to make up for it.”A faint smile appeared on his pale face, but before he could respond, the ICU door swung open with unexpected urgency. The cardiologist strode into the room, followed closely by a woman dressed in a navy-blue suit with a hospital identification badge clipped neatly to her lapel. Judging by the thick folder tucked beneath her arm she wore, I could tell she wasn't part of the regular medical team. Both of them stopped beside my father's bed."Mr. Sterling... Miss Sterling," the doctor greete

Janelle's POVI gave a small nod, satisfied."From the moment I resume my duties as CEO, you'll be my eyes and ears inside Sterling House. I won't be making a public appearance immediately, but every report, every board decision and every unusual movement in the company comes straight to me."Eddy's fingers danced effortlessly across the screen of his tablet as he noted everything down before looking up with an easy grin."So..." he drawled. "I'm assuming there's no honeymoon after the wedding?"He raised both hands innocently when I simply stared at him."What? It felt like an appropriate question."I chose to ignore the comment."I also expect a daily report on my father's condition, as well as another report on Sterling House.""You'll have both," he replied without missing a beat. "Morning and evening."I nodded before my expression turned serious."One last thing."His smile slowly faded."My father trusts you, but I don't”He didn't seem offended.Instead, he straightened, sensi

Janelle's POV For the first few seconds after I opened my eyes, I had no idea where I was. Then everything came rushing back. I lay perfectly still, staring at the ceiling as the realization settled over me. I was getting married today. Again. Only four days ago, my husband introduced another woman as his fiancee ending two years of a marriage I had believed would last forever. Now I was about to become another man's wife. Life truly had a twisted sense of humor. I released a slow breath before turning my head toward the sitting area. My eyes immediately found him. Zane was asleep on the long cream-colored couch near the window. One arm rested behind his head while the other hung loosely over the edge of the sofa. The blanket I'd insisted he use the previous night had long since slipped onto the floor, leaving him in nothing more than a black fitted T-shirt and gray sweatpants. A strange feeling of guilt settled inside me. Last night was awkward for both of us. Neithe

Janelle's POV "Eddy? What are you doing here?" I asked in surprise. "Aren't you supposed to be with my father?""He was sleeping peacefully when I left," he replied, waving a dismissive hand. "And before you ask, yes, Mr. Sterling personally ordered me to come. I even argued with him because I felt guilty leaving him, but he practically chased me out of the hospital”“He did what?”“Don't worry, his private nurse moved in this morning. Then, as if that wasn't enough, your husband called and said, 'Eddy, I need you here immediately. My wife needs to be glammed up for our wedding.' Now, tell me honestly, how was I supposed to refuse a request like that?”A mischievous grin spread across his face."So naturally... I answered the call."My eyes drifted toward everything he had brought with him. There were designer garment bags neatly lined against the wall, velvet jewelry boxes, luxury shoe cases, professional makeup kits, hair styling equipment, and two expensive cameras hanging from
