JADE:I was completely thrown off by how Nico casually claimed to be friends with Jace, especially considering how much he makes me suffer during practice. What a total liar."Honestly, I only saw his paintings once when he was little. I assumed if he was serious about hockey, he would've forgotten all about that," my dad muttered, his voice cold and indifferent before taking a slow sip of water. My mom sat in complete silence, her plate barely touched. Ever since my dad snapped at her earlier, she hadn't said a single word, staring blankly at the table."I'm not going to beg on his behalf. Instead, I have an offer," Nico stated, his voice smooth and dripping with quiet confidence. From the corner of my eye, I caught the lazy, mischievous curve of his lips.My dad’s posture instantly shifted, leaning in close with sudden interest. I wondered what Nico was pulling, but whatever it was, I prayed it worked out in our favor."Please, go on. I'm listening," my dad motioned, his voice tense

JADE:It was already late at night, and I was staring at the ceiling, completely unable to sleep. I kept tossing back and forth, but the uneasy knot in my stomach refused to loosen.Reaching for my phone on the nightstand, I checked to see if Charlotte was active. Luckily, her status showed online.~Hey, can’t sleep. Call me when you’re free,~ I typed out. I wasn't sure if she was actually at her screen or just had the app open, so I kept the message brief.About fifteen minutes later, my phone vibrated. My stomach fluttered with relief as I sat up instantly to read her reply.~Hey girl, what’s bothering you?~My fingers hovered over the keyboard to answer, but before I could type a word, her face flashed across the screen with an incoming video call. I quickly grabbed two pillows, propping them against my headboard so my phone could lean against them."What’s keeping you awake?" Charlotte asked, her voice light with curiosity as her face filled the screen.I hesitated, feeling a sudd

When I pulled up to the building, it towered over the street like a skyscraper, massive and tall against the sky.Damian had offered in our chat to guide me up to the party, so he was already waiting near the entrance when I reached the parking lot. I walked in beside him and we stepped into the elevator. Neither of us said much. Conversation with him always felt forced and boring, no matter how hard he tried to be funny. We got off on the third floor where the party was being held. The whole level was usually rented out for big events or weddings, so Theodore must have spent a ridiculous amount of money booking the entire space.I spotted Nico almost immediately, looking breathtaking as always. He had on a leather jacket over a white tank top, fitted black jeans, and clean white sneakers.A black earring hung from one ear, and his silver eyebrow and lip piercings glinted under the venue lights, sitting perfectly against his sharp features.Damian offered to find me a seat, but I sho

NICOI signed the papers, feeling a heavy weight lift off my chest, and my dad took them from me."Nice doing business with you, son," he offered his hand with a proud, warm grin. "Hopefully one day I get to work with you in my office. When that time comes, you are always welcome.""Thanks, dad," I muttered, feeling a rare moment of genuine gratitude. As soon as he let go, he headed upstairs to join my mom. I leaned back against the couch, a faint, longing smile touching my lips. Deep down, I really wished this could be me and Jade when we get older. She is the only girl I have ever pictured a real future with.I used to ask my mom how she knew she wanted to marry my father for who he was, and not just his wealth. Her answer confused me at first. She spoke about how your heart beats fast around them, how your chest feels light, and how you simply cannot imagine your life without them. Ever since then, I had not met a single girl who fit that criteria. When I was with Isabella, I rea

JADE:As we got out of the elevator, I couldn't figure out why I told him I didn't like him, even when my heart skipped a beat any time he got close to me.I took a stool at the bar, though every instinct urged me to follow him. To make it worse, he sat on a couch not far from me and he didn't glance my way, not once. I couldn't stop myself from stealing looks every minute.Should I just walk over and sit beside him? I thought. My neck throbbed from constantly checking over my shoulder. Just as I mustered the courage to stand, a girl smoothly glided over and sat right next to him.I sank straight back down. The easy way they talked, the shared laughter, it set off a hot, suffocating burn in my chest. I hated seeing it, especially the soft way he smiled at her. This time, I stopped hiding it. I locked my glare onto them, eyes practically burning with raw fury. Desperate to drown out the sight, I ordered drink after drink, downing the bitter wine in heavy gulps. I let the sting scrape
