Pain.It felt as though molten fire had been poured beneath my skin.I cried out as the black mark beneath my collarbone spread glowing purple veins across my shoulder. The silver wings behind me flickered. For a terrifying moment, I lost control and fell toward the sea."ARIELLE!"Cassian leaped from his flagship.Ice formed beneath his feet as he raced across the ocean.Just before I struck the water, he caught me.The impact shattered the frozen path beneath us.He held me tightly as black energy continued to spread across my skin. His face turned white.No...It really is her curse.Morgana laughed from above. Her voice echoed across the battlefield.I wondered how long it would take before the seal weakened. She looked directly at me.When you were born, I placed a curse upon your soul.A sleeping curse. It was meant to awaken the moment you became Queen.I struggled to stand. Why?Her violet eyes gleamed.Because you were destined to destroy me.The Sea Dragon roared in agony.T

"Lucian..."The name left my lips as little more than a whisper.I stared at the young man standing beside Morgana. My brother. My twin. The face looking back at me was almost identical to mine. The same crimson eyes. The same sharp features. The same strange silver glow beneath the skin. But where my eyes carried warmth...His carried something colder.Something broken.Cassian stepped forward."Lucian."His voice trembled. The young man looked at him.Brother.Cassian's expression collapsed. You survived.Lucian smiled faintly.Apparently.I searched for you.I know.Twenty-five years.I know. Why didn't you come home?Lucian's smile disappeared.Because home was the place that abandoned me.My heart tightened. What happened to you?Lucian finally looked at me.For a moment, his expression softened. You don't remember.No.Of course you don't.He laughed bitterly.Father made sure of that.I stepped forward.Tell me.Morgana interrupted. There's no need.I pointed my sword toward her

The ocean split open. For several seconds, nobody moved. The ancient doors beneath the sea continued opening, inch by inch.Black water poured into the enormous gap. Then the golden eyes opened wider.Something was waking.Something that had been sleeping beneath the world for thousands of years.Aethon turned toward the ocean. His enormous wings spread. His voice shook the mountains. We must stop the gate.I stared at him. How?The dragon looked at Lucian and me.Only the Twin Bond can close it.Lucian stepped beside me.Then we close it.Aethon hesitated. There is a price. My heart sank. What price? The dragon looked at us with ancient sorrow. One of you must enter the gate. The other must remain outside.Lucian immediately stepped forward.I will go.No.I grabbed his arm.We both go.Aethon shook his enormous head.If you both enter, neither of you may return.Lucian looked at me.Arielle, you have a kingdom. You have people depending on you.You are the Queen.I stared at him.And

The horizon disappeared beneath a sea of black ships. One after another, they emerged from the mist.Hundreds became thousands.Their sails carried different symbols, but every flag had the same silver crown surrounded by seven black stars. The Seven Kingdoms.I stood on the palace wall with the Blood Moon Blade in my hand. For the first time since becoming Queen, I felt something I hadn't expected. Not fear.Pressure.These kingdoms had survived the ancient war. They had remained hidden for centuries. And now they had come for us.Cassian stood beside me, staring at the approaching fleet. His face was unusually pale.I looked at him.You know them.He nodded.Better than anyone.Who are they?He took a slow breath. The Seven Kingdoms were once our father's greatest enemies. Before the Blood Moon Kingdom fell, they formed an alliance against him. Why?Because they feared the Blood Moon Crown.I frowned. The crown is supposed to protect the world.Cassian looked at me.That's what Fath

The mountain shook again.Snow fell from the cliffs around us.Every warrior reached for a weapon.Lucian stared at me.Another twin?I nodded slowly. That is what I saw.Cassian rode closer. What exactly did you see?A man.Black crown.Crimson eyes.He looked like me.Lucian's expression became troubled. There were only two of us.That is what Father told us.I looked toward the mountains.Maybe Father lied.A deep growl echoed through the valley.Everyone turned.Something was moving beneath the snow.Queen Elara raised her sword.Prepare yourselves. The ground exploded.A massive creature emerged from beneath the ice.Its body was covered in white scales.Six enormous wings spread across the sky.Its eyes glowed pale blue. The Frost Guardian. It roared. The sound sent a freezing wave across the valley.Several warriors were instantly trapped in ice.Cassian raised his hands.Ice against ice.His magic collided with the Guardian's power. The impact threw him backward.Cassian!I ra
