Friday came quicker than I wanted, and evening arrived just as fast. I watch Mom move around the kitchen as she prepares a meal for Mr. Darian. She still thinks he'll show up. I don't know how to tell her that he won't be coming. I had a hard time convincing Mr. Darian not to show up at my house today. He finally agreed to my request after I promised to come over to his place instead. We're supposed to meet by 8:00 p.m., and I'm supposed to return home before 11:00 p.m. It's a few minutes past 7:00 p.m. now. Mom thinks he'll be here at 7:30 p.m.That's right! I lied to her again. But it wasn't intentional. I panicked. I know I'm not in a real relationship with Mr. Darian, and that we're together for a reason that could be considered selfish. I also know that I enjoy being with him, even though he is a damn dictator. But I'm not ready to end things with him right now. I like chatting with him. I like seeing his face, and more than that, I love being around him. I know he can be annoying

"Now, tell me the real name of this forty-five-year-old man. Also tell me where he lives. I can't believe you lied about the man sharing your father's name. I can't believe you'd use your father's name in such a dirty way. I didn't know you were a liar, Amelia. I am deeply disappointed in you. Do I have to start mistrusting every piece of information you give me now? Is that what you want?""Is that what you want?" She scolds or yells. Whichever. I'm still taken aback by the slap. My mother has always been strict with me, but she's never hit me before. It's the first time she's slapped me, and I'm still shaken by the whole thing.I can't stop the tears from flowing down my cheeks, but I can't bring myself to respond to her either. Yes, I'm mad at her for slapping me.Why would she slap me over this? It's my life, isn't it? So what if she's been raising me alone without help? Isn't that her duty as my mother? So what if she's been giving me more than I ask for? So what if she's been sa

"Um, Mom, I know you must be curious," I say as I spread butter on my bread, "but I want you to know that I've ended things with him. You don't need to worry about me. He wanted us to stay together, but I refused. I ended things with him, so we're no longer together," I finish.Mom pauses. "Oh, that's great. That's wonderful, honey. I'm happy to hear that." She caresses my cheek, a smile on her face. She looks happy. I feel terrible. She's been staring at me all morning, and I knew she was waiting for me to tell her. When the tension grew stronger, I didn't have a choice but to tell her what she wanted to hear. Now I have two problems.Mom. And Mr. Darian.Mr. Darian wants me to sort things out with my mother. He wants me to introduce him to her. But Mom doesn't want to see him. Two problems.I have no choice but to deceive both parties. This problem is beyond me. Mr. Darian won't let me go, and Mom will never accept him. After making breakfast, I eat before leaving for work. I commun

I got a tattoo! Yes. I challenged myself to get a tattoo of Mr. Darian's name. I got it on my inner thigh, close to my vagina, and I can't wait to show it to him once he gets back. He will return in two days.He called to let me know this morning, and I've been in a great mood since I heard the news. I've actually been anticipating his return, especially since he made those promises to me."Hey Amelia, what's up? You've been glowing these days. Who are you in love with?" My colleague, Nova, questions me from her stand.I pause, a little taken aback by the question."In love?" I scoff. "No. Of course not. You need to have a boyfriend to fall in love."She laughs. "Are you sure you don't have someone in your life? I could swear you do. I caught you smiling at the messages on your phone more than a hundred times today.""A hundred times?" I laugh. "It happened only a few times.""What about the other days? You've been acting different, girl. Just admit it. There's a secret person in your

Darian's POVReceiving a breakup message when you're literally across the continent is a thing I never knew was possible until it happened to me.Amelia, this little thing... How dare she?I am in a bar with Santiago and Marcelo, the two closest supporters of the current Don, who happens to be based in Italy. Yes. I had to come down to Italy to set up a meeting with them after completing my work.Although these two are not in my circle, I believe I can learn a thing or two from them. Probably gather information about their boss and how he came to power. It wasn't hard setting up this meeting with them. I simply had to lure them out with money.Santiago nods at whatever Marcelo says and keeps drinking. He's been drinking since we got there, and he's drunk now.I know I should be focused on collecting information from him since he is now more accessible, but I don't do that. Instead, I keep staring at the message Amelia sent a few minutes ago.For some reason, I can't keep my eyes off m
