They both stared deeply at each other. Lost for words and deeply engrossed in each other's thoughts, Kisha begins to stare elsewhere like she was looking for something or maybe a distraction that can quench the fire already building inside of both of them. Their hearts raced. With the speed it was beating, it could force its way out any moment. But if it stops, they would have to tap back into reality and claim their sanity. “I haven’t really been myself…uhm” Kisha broke the silence between them. Corey pulled her in for a deep mindblowing kiss. His hands found its way into her hair as he smoothened her scalp, feeling the softness of her lips. She kissed him back just as fiercely, wrapping her arms around his neck. With her lips on his, he felt like she took a peak into his soul. And the more he kissed her, the more her lips on his brought back the light hidden between darkness in his soul. “Just for tonight,” I breathed as I broke the kiss, kissing her jaw, her neck and her ea

Corey didn’t remember the drive to Mama Uyioku’s house, he only remembered leaving. One minute, he and Kisha had made it look like they had it all figured out, and the next minute he felt like a stranger with her. Dealing with all these emotions at once exhausted him to the point he couldn’t think straight any more. The next, he was behind the wheel, driving through the familiar streets of Stark City with his jaw clenched and his hands tight around the steering wheel. He shouldn’t have left, he knew that. But staying would have meant saying something he couldn’t take back. Kisha’s final words kept replaying in his mind. “We are both adults and needed to cool off some steam.” He exhaled sharply. “I know.” The problem was, he didn’t know how to stop protecting her. Not after everything they’d discovered, not after Morgan, not after Blackridge and certainly not after realizing how much he cared about her. By the time he pulled into Mama Uyioku’s compound, the sky had begun to darken

By seven that evening, Corey was already regretting agreeing to dinner. Not because he didn’t want to see his mother, he did. It was his younger brother he was worried about. Jethro had a talent for turning a peaceful dinner into an interrogation and tonight, Corey wasn’t in the mood to be interrogated. He parked outside his mother’s house and sat in the car for a moment. The house looked exactly as he remembered it. Warm lights glowing through the curtains, the faint sound of music coming from inside and the familiar smell of his mother’s cooking drifting through the evening air. He never seems to get why his mother cooks when they have servants at every beck and call. To make matters worse she prefers to live in this small mansion compared to the grandeur of the mansion he bought for her. His phone vibrated. Mom: Don’t make me come outside and drag you in. Corey smiled as he stepped out. Before he could knock, the door opened. His mother stood there with her hands on her hips. “Y

Kisha didn’t know where she was going, she only knew she couldn’t stay at home. The argument with Corey had ended hours ago, but his words were still circling inside her head. To conquer the world together is a great deal. She wanted to prove him wrong by letting him witness what she had just seen. She had even pretended to believe him. But now, walking alone through the busy streets of Stark City, she realized how deeply those words had reached. The evening crowd moved around her. Cars honked, people laughed, street vendors called out to passing customers and music drifted from an open shop. But Kisha heard none of it clearly. She simply walked, one street became another, then another. She didn’t notice how far she’d gone until her feet began to ache. She stopped near a busy intersection and looked around. She didn’t recognize the street. “What am I doing?” She whispered. Her phone was in her hand. Corey’s name was still at the top of her recent calls. She stared at it, her han
