Ivy walked for two days before her legs finally gave out beneath her.She didn't shift, she was too raw, too hollowed out by the broken bond, and an unstable shift in unclaimed territory could get a lone wolf killed by something far bigger than heartbreak. So she walked human, cold and starving and half out of her mind with grief, until the trees blurred together into a single dark wall and her knees finally buckled in a clearing she'd never be able to find again on purpose. She expected to die there. Some small, exhausted part of her thought that might actually be easier than living with what Kane had done to her in front of everyone she'd ever known.Instead, she woke up warm."You're awake." The voice belonged to an older man with silver threading through his temples and eyes the color of the sky right before a storm breaks. He was crouched by a low, crackling fire, watching her the way you'd watch something wounded and unpredictable that might still bite. "You've been out for a da

The hall went silent the moment she walked through the doors.Ivy felt it ripple across the room like a stone dropped into still water, the whispers, the stares, the way entire conversations died mid-sentence as three hundred wolves from a dozen territories turned to look at the woman walking in wearing the Thorne Alpha crest like she'd been born wearing it.She had been, as it turned out. She simply hadn't known it yet, back when it mattered."That's her," someone whispered, not quietly enough to go unheard. "That's the omega Ashford rejected years ago. She's.............""She's an Alpha now," someone else hissed back, awe bleeding into their voice. "Look at the mark on her collar."Ivy didn't slow her pace for any of it. She crossed the hall exactly the way Magnus had drilled into her spine straight, eyes forward, giving absolutely nothing away until she reached the long table reserved for territory leaders and took the seat with the Thorne name freshly carved into the wood. That w

Selene was waiting for Kane the moment he stepped back inside the hall."You humiliated me out there," she said, low enough that only he could hear, her fingers digging into his sleeve. "In front of every territory Alpha in the region. Do you have any idea what people are already saying about us?""I don't care what people are saying." Kane pulled his arm free, his eyes still on the balcony doors behind him, where Ivy had disappeared into the night air moments before. "I told you from the start this engagement was never going to be real, Selene. My father pushed for it. I never did, not once, no matter how many times he made it sound like my choice.""Your father pushed for it because it's the smart choice." Selene's voice sharpened, the polished calm cracking at the edges in a way Kane had rarely seen from her. "The Thorne Pack didn't exist three years ago, Kane. It was a rumor, a handful of strays hiding in unclaimed forest. Now she walks in here wearing an Alpha crest like she was

The attack came at dawn, exactly the way Magnus predicted it would, exactly three days after Ivy locked that treaty back inside the archive.Ivy was already awake, standing at the edge of Thorne territory with Wren and a dozen warriors, when the scent of Ashford wolves hit the wind too many of them, moving too fast, straight toward the northern border marker where the two territories had coexisted in uneasy silence for years."They're not here to talk," Wren said grimly, shifting her weight, ready, her eyes scanning the tree line for the first flash of movement."No," Ivy agreed, already feeling the shift building under her skin, an old instinct sharpened by three years of training she'd never asked for and desperately needed. "They're here to make sure that treaty never reaches the council. Damian isn't a man who negotiates when he's cornered. He destroys the evidence and lets the fire cover his tracks."The first wave hit the tree line minutes later a dozen Ashford wolves, faces she

They stood at the Thorne border two weeks later, exactly where Ivy had walked away from everything she used to be, exactly where a rejected omega had once disappeared into unclaimed forest with nothing but a single bag and a broken heart. The council investigation had stripped Damian Ashford of his title within days of the hearing evidence poured in once people realized it was finally safe to speak, old enforcers and pack members finally confirming what everyone had quietly suspected for twenty years but never dared say aloud while he still held power. Selene had quietly withdrawn from Ashford territory entirely within the same week, her family distancing themselves fast from a man whose downfall threatened to drag anyone standing too close down with him. Kane hadn't asked for his father's seat when the council offered it to him as the obvious successor. He'd asked the council for something else entirely: time, and permission to make things right on his own terms, without a title forc
