The iron crank handle felt freezing in Kabir’s hands, a blunt instrument of pure physics against the oncoming storm. Above them, through the rusted iron drainage grate, the rhythmic thudding of the Vanguard helicopter’s rotors grew sharper, bouncing off the limestone canyon walls. The hunters were circling back, their infrared sensors scanning for the heat signatures that had vanished into the mountain's veins."Hold on to something!" Kabir shouted, his jaw tight as he threw his entire weight into the flywheel. The heavy iron wheel resisted at first, locked in a decades-long slumber of grease and rust. Kabir grunted, his boots slipping on the oily concrete floor, before forcing the mechanism past its compression point.Chug. Cough. Clang. The massive diesel engine spluttered, spitting a thick cloud of acrid black smoke into the underground bay. For a terrifying second, it died down to a low whine."Again, Kabir! They’re right above us!" Anaya urged, her eyes darting to the ceiling as

The rusted iron doors of the cargo carriage slammed shut with a heavy, echoing thud, plunging the interior into near-total darkness. Only narrow, dancing slivers of golden afternoon light pierced through the wooden slats of the train car, illuminating the thick clouds of black coal dust that hung suspended in the stagnant air.Within seconds, the massive locomotive shuddered. A violent, hydraulic jolt ripped through the entire length of the train as the steel wheels groaned against the tracks, slowly pulling the heavy freight train out of the phantom junction."Move back into the shadows," Kabir hissed, his arm gently but firmly guiding Anaya away from the wooden slats. He kept his mechanical service pistol lowered but ready, his eyes locked on the sliding door as the train gained momentum.Vikram collapsed onto a pile of coarse, unrefined coal, coughing quietly into his sleeve. His cracked spectacles were sliding down his nose. "This is completely archaic," he whispered, running a ha

The screech of tearing metal still echoed through the narrow valley as the remnants of the train layout lay twisted behind them. The helicopter attack from the Vanguard’s elite hunters had effectively cut off the iron spur, forcing Ethan Vance and his few remaining allies off the tracks and into the unforgiving terrain of the lower Shivalik wilderness. Before them lay a dense, suffocating expanse of dry forest dominated entirely by ancient, twisted babool trees. Their pale, dangerous thorns—some as long as a man’s finger—glistened under the unnatural, metallic silver sky of the fractured timeline."The air-support will circle back in less than four minutes," Ethan said, his voice flat, carrying an eerie calmness that grounded the absolute panic of his companions. He wiped a streak of dark grease and dried blood from his jawline, his eyes scanning the dense thicket ahead. "If we stay near the wreckage, we are nothing but sitting ducks for their thermal scopes. Move into the brush. Now

The air inside the lower drainage networks of the capital was thick, heavy with the suffocating scent of sulfur, centuries of damp earth, and decaying brickwork. Ethan Vance stepped carefully over a cracked stone ridge, his hand holding a small brass mechanical lantern he had recovered from the previous station. The pale amber flame flickered weakly, casting long, dancing shadows against the arched brick ceiling. This tunnel was not a part of modern Delhi's civil infrastructure. It was the Subterranean Trace—a secret labyrinth of brick and iron waterways constructed by the British clockwork guilds during the mid-nineteenth century. "My tracker is still completely blind, Mr. Vance," Marcus whispered, his voice echoing hollowly down the seemingly endless brick corridor. He was leaning heavily against a rusted iron water pipe that ran along the wall, his breath coming in shallow, painful gasps. "We must be directly beneath the colonial-era ruins of Old Delhi by now. If the Vanguard for

The towering glass facade of the New Delhi Financial Complex gleamed under the harsh afternoon sun, looking less like a center of commerce and more like a monolith of absolute power. For decades, this square mile of high-rise structures had dictated the economic pulse of the entire nation, run by invisible hands, corrupt syndicates, and old money. The streets below were choked with luxury sedans and hurried executives, completely unaware of the shadow war being fought right above their heads. But today, the atmosphere felt distinctly different. It was heavy, charged with an invisible current of tension that made the security guards at the main entrance shift uneasily on their feet, their eyes scanning the plaza for a threat they couldn't name. Ethan Vance walked through the heavy revolving glass doors with a calm, measured stride that oozed absolute confidence. He wore a sharply tailored charcoal suit that perfectly masked the lean, athletic build of a man who had spent the last seve
