JORDAN'S POV“The preparations for the grand coronation have been compromised,” the guard announced, and every trace of warmth from Scarlett's chambers disappeared. I looked at the man and demanded, “Compromised how?” His eyes moved briefly toward Scarlett before he answered, “Your Majesty, the Queen's ceremonial crown is missing.”“What?” Scarlett asked as she rose from her chair. I was already moving toward the door when I told her, “Stay here.” Scarlett followed me immediately and replied, “You cannot possibly believe I am listening to that after someone stole my crown.” I looked over my shoulder and warned, “Alden ordered you to rest.” She tied her robe more securely and answered, “Then I will walk calmly.”I did not have time to argue, although I knew Scarlett would consider that a victory. Elias and Darius joined us before we reached the ceremonial wing, and Elias asked, “How many people know?” The guard leading us shook his head and replied, “Only the night guards and two serva

SCARLETT'S POV“The crown fits her. The grave will too,” Jordan read, and the throne room became so quiet that I could hear my own breathing. I stared at the small piece of paper in his hand before looking at the crown, but Jordan immediately moved it farther away from me and ordered, “You are not touching this.”“I wasn't going to touch it,” I replied. Jordan handed the crown to Elias and said, “Seal it inside the security office. No one handles it without Alden and two guards present.” I frowned and asked, “Why does Alden need to inspect a crown?” Jordan looked at me as though the answer should have been obvious and replied, “Because I don't know what they put inside it.”Elias accepted the crown and said, “I will have every part examined, Your Majesty.” Jordan nodded before adding, “Then destroy it.” My attention snapped back to him as I asked, “Destroy it?” He turned toward Darius and ordered, “Find the royal jeweler. I want another crown prepared before the ceremony.”“No,” I sai

JORDAN'S POVThe alarm reached me before I made it halfway back to my study. One moment, I was listening to Elias complain about the coronation security schedule, and the next, a guard came running down the corridor shouting, “The Queen's chambers!” I did not wait for him to explain. I turned and ran.“What happened?” Elias demanded as he followed me. The guard struggled to keep pace as he answered, “A man was seen on Her Majesty's balcony.” My hand immediately moved to my sword, and I asked, “Is Scarlett hurt?” The guard shook his head and replied, “Not that we know, Your Majesty.”“Not that you know?” I repeated. Elias looked at the man and ordered, “Find Darius and seal the gardens.” The guard changed direction immediately, while I continued toward Scarlett's wing with every terrible possibility entering my mind at once. Two guards stood outside her chambers when I arrived. I shoved the door open and called, “Scarlett.” She stood near the dressing table with Mira beside her, while

SCARLETT'S POV“The intruder once served as Cassian's personal executioner,” Jordan said, and I stared at him while Darius quietly explained that the man's name was Varek. According to the old palace records, he had disappeared shortly after Cassian was imprisoned, and no one had seen him inside the kingdom since.“So Cassian sends his executioner to stand outside my bedroom?” I asked. Jordan folded the record and replied, “We don't know that Cassian sent him.” I looked at him and said, “You don't believe that.” He met my gaze before answering, “I believe Cassian is involved. I simply don't know how many people are involved with him.”Darius nodded and added, “Varek was loyal to Cassian long before the attempted coup, Your Majesty. If he is inside the palace, someone is feeding him information.” I looked toward the muddy footprints still visible on the balcony and asked, “The guard rotations?” Elias replied, “The crown location, the hidden passages and possibly access to the King's se

JORDAN’S POV“Who sent those invitations, Cassian?” I demanded the moment I stepped into the dungeon, my voice echoing through the narrow stone corridor as the heavy iron door closed behind me. I had spent the entire walk down here trying to control my anger, but the moment I saw my brother sitting behind the bars with that infuriatingly calm expression, whatever patience I had left disappeared.Cassian lifted his head slowly, his eyes settling on me with an amusement that immediately made my hands tighten into fists. “Good morning to you too, Your Highness,” he said, leaning casually against the stone wall as though he were enjoying a private joke. “I was beginning to wonder how long it would take before you came running down here demanding answers.”“Don't play games with me,” I snapped, stepping closer to the bars. “Those invitations were sent to people who have no business being involved in my marriage or my coronation. They were designed to provoke the court, and you know exactly

SCARLETT’S POV“I should be asleep.”I stood on the balcony, staring at the dark kingdom below me while the cool night air moved through my hair. Tomorrow, I would stand beside Jordan before the entire court and receive a crown. Everyone expected me to be excited, but sleep had refused to come, leaving me alone with thoughts I had spent months trying to bury.I rested my hands against the balcony railing and looked toward the distant forest. The sight of those trees brought back memories I wished I could forget. I remembered the day Rowan cast me out, the way his words had cut through me, and the terrible walk that followed when I entered the forest with nowhere to go.Back then, I had believed everything was over. I had no home, no place in the pack, and no reason to believe my life would ever become something better. I remembered walking between the trees with tears in my eyes, wondering how the people I had trusted could have turned against me so easily.Tomorrow, Rowan would stand

SCARLETT’S POV“Everyone is waiting for you.” Jordan’s voice came from behind me as I stood before the mirror, staring at my reflection in the royal gown prepared for my coronation. For several seconds, I couldn't move because the sight of myself still felt strange. The woman staring back at me looked like someone who belonged in a palace, someone who had been born for a crown, yet a small part of me still remembered the girl who had once walked into the forest with nothing but the clothes on her back.“I don't know if I'm ready,” I admitted, smoothing my hands over the gown even though there wasn't a single crease in it. “I thought I would feel excited today, but all I can think about is everything that happened before I got here. Part of me is still waiting for someone to tell me that this is a mistake and that I don't really belong in this place.”Jordan stepped closer until his reflection appeared beside mine, his expression calm as he looked at me through the mirror. “You don't h

JORDAN’S POV“Your Majesty, Alpha Darius of the Northern Ridge would like to speak with you,” one of the palace attendants said, approaching me while I stood near the center of the celebration. I nodded and turned toward the visiting Alpha, forcing myself to focus on the political conversations surrounding the coronation, but even as I listened to him discuss trade routes and pack alliances, my attention kept drifting across the hall toward Scarlett. She stood surrounded by several Lunas who were congratulating her, the crown still resting on her head as she smiled politely at each person who approached her. She looked different tonight, not because of the crown or the gown, but because she no longer seemed determined to disappear beneath other people's expectations. I found myself watching her longer than I should have, until I noticed someone else doing exactly the same thing.Rowan.His attention had been fixed on Scarlett for several minutes, and there was something in his express

SCARLETT’S POV“You actually came.” Elaine's voice greeted me the moment I stepped into the private washroom, and the quiet click of the door closing behind me made my stomach tighten. She stood near the long mirror with her arms folded, looking far too calm for someone who had just lured the newly crowned Queen away from a crowded celebration. I immediately regretted coming alone, but I refused to let her see that.“You asked me to come, so here I am,” I replied, keeping my voice steady as I walked farther into the room. “Now tell me why you dragged me away from my coronation celebration instead of simply speaking to me in the hall.” I deliberately kept my expression neutral because I knew Elaine was waiting for me to show fear.Elaine gave a small smile that contained no warmth. “I wanted privacy because what I'm about to tell you could destroy everything you've built tonight,” she said, watching my reaction carefully. “And considering the number of important people gathered outside

JORDAN’S POV“Where is the Queen?” I demanded, turning toward Scarlett's guards as the celebration continued around us. Their answer had already unsettled me, but the longer I stood there without seeing her, the worse the feeling in my chest became. Scarlett had never simply disappeared from an event like this, especially not after everything that had happened tonight.“Your Majesty, the Queen dismissed us a short while ago,” one of the guards explained carefully, lowering his head as though he already understood how serious the situation had become. “She said she needed to speak with someone privately, and because she ordered us not to follow her, we believed she wanted a moment alone.”“A moment alone?” I repeated, my voice tightening as I looked toward the corridors. “She left the celebration without telling me where she was going, and you allowed her to walk away without another guard?” I could hear the anger in my own voice, but beneath it was something far more frightening. Fear
