Lila’s POVSleep would not come. Every time I closed my eyes I saw the gun, the cellar, Theo’s face, and the police lights. My body was tired, but my mind kept racing. Sebastian slept beside me, one arm resting across my waist. His breathing was deep and even. I watched him for a long time in the soft moonlight that came through the window.I needed him awake. I needed to feel something other than fear.I shifted closer and kissed the corner of his mouth. He stirred. His eyes opened slowly and found mine.“Lila?” His voice was rough with sleep. “What’s wrong?”“I can’t sleep,” I whispered. “My head is too full. I keep replaying everything.”He started to sit up, but I pressed a hand to his chest and kept him on his back. “Stay there. Let me do this.”Surprise flickered across his face, then something warmer. He relaxed against the pillows and watched me. I climbed over him, straddling his hips. The blanket fell away. Cool night air touched my skin, but his body was warm underneath me.
