Chapter 1

At first, Henry Fowler deleted every post on social media that had to do with his wife, Charlotte Davidson. When Charlotte got home, there was no longer a single lamp that stayed on specifically for her.Later on, Henry even stopped his fertility treatments at the hospital.Five years ago, he and Charlotte had gotten into an accident. At impact, he desperately shielded her by throwing himself over her.Charlotte was almost unharmed, but Henry was severely injured and was unconscious in the hospital for three days. The doctors were certain that it would be difficult for Henry to regain his fertility for the rest of his life. The elders in the Davidson family demanded the couple have children of their own so that the family line could continue. So, Henry had gone to the hospital every month for fertility treatment. He had taken tests over and over again, eagerly awaiting the day he would recover.Later on, Henry no longer cared about the trivial matters concerning the Davidson fami

Chapter 2

Henry and Charlotte had known each other for almost 30 years. They were childhood friends. When they were just kids, Charlotte was the girl next door who would coax him to eat. When they grew older, she was the upperclassman at school whom he could never get away from. Their union later on was the perfect marriage with blessings from both families.Charlotte had always loved him. In middle school, she would step in and drive away the school bullies for him. In college, she would cross the campus grounds just to be the womenswear model for his fashion design class.Henry thought their marriage would be smooth-sailing and blissful, just like when they were younger. That was, until that fateful accident when he protected Charlotte, injuring himself and becoming infertile in the process.Charlotte drowned her guilt in alcohol, and she happened to meet Gavin, Henry's former classmate in college.Gavin didn't have a single penny to his name, and he was working as a bar server. Still, h

Chapter 3

Before Henry left the studio, he printed out the divorce agreement before heading home.Sure enough, Charlotte had gone to see Gavin again. The whole house felt empty, and she was nowhere to be seen. The antique ivory fertility carving, which Charlotte had bought, sat quietly in the hall. The butler, Gideon Thorne, smiled as he approached Henry. "Ms. Davidson is so thoughtful, isn't she? She knows you're looking forward to your recovery, so she got you a gift with such a wonderful meaning. Where would you like it to be placed?"If it were before, Henry would probably smile in reply. But now, after finding out that Charlotte was hiding the child from him and had intended to keep it that way for who knows how long, he found it deeply ironic.By some twist of fate, when he checked his phone again, the first post that popped up on social media was a photo of Gavin and Charlotte celebrating Gavin's birthday.Charlotte had been keeping a straight face ever since she became an entrepren

Chapter 4

Henry hadn't expected Gavin to move in with the child. As soon as Gavin caught sight of Henry, he had a look of terror and unease on his face.He recalled all the wild things he had said in front of Henry at the college reunion. "Henry, I'm just staying here for the time being. When Thomas gets used to life here and doesn't need me anymore, I'll leave right away!"The little boy with him clutched his hand nervously. "Hey, you! Don't you dare chase my dad away! Wherever he goes, I'm going with him!"Gavin put on an apologetic smile, but Henry gleaned a hint of provocation in his eyes.Everyone knew that Henry was infertile and wanted a child of his own. Now that Gavin had come over with his illegitimate son, Henry knew for certain that Gavin was trying to break him.But Charlotte didn't care about his feelings at all. Instead, her doting gaze was trained on Gavin and their child, Thomas. "Since Dad's already here, he won't be driven out. This will be our home from now on."Lookin

Chapter 5

Looking at Thomas' injuries and how pitiful he looked as he cried, Charlotte was instantly filled with rage. The bodyguards had Henry under control. According to her orders, if Henry hadn't hurt the child, the bodyguards wouldn't have treated him like that."Henry, why would you do this?" Charlotte questioned as she met Henry's lifeless gaze.Feeling a sharp pain in her heart, Charlotte softened her tone and asked again, "The boy has injuries all over his body. Why did you do this?"Henry had seen what Gavin did to Thomas just now.He didn't hurt the boy at all, but Gavin was pushing the blame on him.Henry answered, "You should ask Gavin. He was the one who did it."Gavin shook his head frantically.Realizing that Henry wasn't going to admit to his mistakes, Charlotte grew even angrier. "Are you saying that Gavin framed you? If you're going to tell lies to shift the blame, at least make them believable! You're infertile, so I asked Gavin to leave the child with you and have yo

Chapter 6

Charlotte suddenly felt an ache in her heart while she was asleep, and that jolted her awake. When she opened her eyes, she saw her son, who was incredibly attached to her, and Gavin, who was sound asleep nearby. She should be feeling happy, but the unease in her heart only grew stronger. She even felt a little disappointed. She wondered if she would be happier if the people next to her were Henry and their son instead.Sadly, reality proved otherwise. Also, Henry had such a bad temper these days that Charlotte felt it wouldn't be appropriate for him to take care of Thomas. At that thought, she crept out of bed and walked out of the room.Outside, apart from the sound of the maids bustling about as they prepared breakfast in the kitchen, Charlotte couldn't hear anything else. She remembered that Henry had been waking up early these days. Before breakfast was ready, he would get up and wash up, then get some workout done before he settled into a book. But now, there was no one d

Chapter 7

Charlotte was in disbelief. She went to the study and was about to turn on the computer to assess the situation when she noticed that a lot of documents were missing from the study.Back when Henry used to be glued to her, he would always accompany her while she worked. She would handle company matters in the study while he worked on his drafts nearby. As time went on, the two split the space between them. Half of the documents in the study were hers, and the other half belonged to Henry.Neither of them liked having people enter the study without permission. Over time, without special notice, no one would come in to tidy the place.Charlotte was a little upset, then she suddenly recalled what had happened yesterday. She thought, "Henry and Thomas got into a conflict in the study, right? Was Thomas the one behind this?"She couldn't quite believe it.All her documents were in perfect condition, so it didn't make sense for Thomas to only destroy Henry's drafts while he was play

Chapter 8

After handling the matters online, Charlotte finally emerged from the study. It had only been a few hours, but she looked completely drained. She called Henry, but the calls never went through. Then, she went to ask Gavin, who was playing with Thomas, "I asked you and Thomas to apologize to Henry, right? Did he reply to your messages?"Gavin hadn't expected that as soon as Charlotte got off work and came to him, this would be the first thing she talked about. He was a little upset about it.Now that he had moved into Charlotte's house, he had already considered himself the man of the household.Nudging Thomas, he explained, "But Thomas doesn't think he did anything wrong yesterday. If you ask me, he was just playing around."Thomas played along, replying in his innocent voice, "I didn't do anything wrong."Charlotte patiently asked, "But Thomas, you broke Henry's things. Why shouldn't you say sorry?"Thomas didn't understand. "The study belongs to Mom, and Mom loves me. So, I

Chapter 9

It didn't take long for the Davidsons to find out about Charlotte's injury. Soon, her parents, William and Martha Davidson, came over. They heard that she had been injured by Gavin's illegitimate child, so even before they had officially met Gavin, they already disliked him.Gavin wanted to get on their good side so that while Henry was away, he would be able to secure the position of Charlotte's husband. However, he was so deliberate about it that it backfired. Charlotte's parents disliked him even more.Seated on the couch, Martha smiled as she looked at Gavin. "Do you think you can drive Henry away just because the child is yours? Henry may be infertile, but he's also the man approved and agreed upon by Charlotte's father and me. If it were this easy to join the Davidson family, any Tom, Dick, and Harry would've gotten in a long time ago."Faced with the barrage of insults, Gavin was unable to utter a single word. He could only smile in response.Fortunately, Thomas was indeed

Chapter 10

"What? Divorce?" Charlotte overheard the conversation. She didn't remember divorcing Henry at all, so she thought this must have been a misunderstanding, or maybe even a prank. But the documents handed to her had crushed her last remaining sliver of hope."Thank you for your cooperation. Have a good day." Barry was about to leave after delivering the documents, but Charlotte stopped him.She was frantic, as if she were clutching at a lifeline. "Please, where is Henry right now? Why are none of my calls going through? You're his representing attorney, so you must know where he is, right?"Barry shook his head.He said that Henry had made all the arrangements a week ago, and he had specifically instructed that there was no need to contact him. As for his whereabouts, Henry had never mentioned it at any point, so Barry was completely in the dark.Charlotte watched as Barry left. She put a hand to her forehead, feeling her vision turning black.Henry didn't leave because he was sul
