Cassie’s POVMy heart was thumping in my chest as I stared right back into the eyes of Nate. Those eyes of his, they were my weakness. And I knew that they would always be. “I—” But before I could say anything else, my phone started ringing, pulling the both of us out of the trance that we were in. I looked away from him, a bit grateful for the distraction. I felt like I did not want to make a decision that I was going to regret later. And I knew that I did not have much time to decide because he would be leaving tomorrow, but if I could just buy myself a few more minutes to process everything, that would be fine with me. “I’m sorry,” I said to him as I pulled the device from my pocket. I glanced at the phone screen and saw that it was Rafael calling. I looked back up at him and saw the look of hurt on his face. “I promise to give you an answer; I just need to take this. I won’t be long.” With that, I got out of the car and walked a bit of a distance away before answering the call.
