LILIANAThe moment Xaden carries me past the threshold, the world outside crashes into my senses all at once.Thunder tears through the sky with a force that feels almost surreal, like it is striking right above the academy itself. Rain falls heavily, relentless, pounding against stone and glass in a way that drowns out every other sound. The air feels charged, pressing against my skin like an invisible weight. These doors must be soundproof because I heard nothing while I was still inside that god forsaking room.I stiffen in his arms, my senses overwhelmed, my body still weak but my mind far too awake.I still can’t make sense of what just happened inside, things I single-handedly confessed, or what we’re currently doing.Loyd’s gaze lands on me immediately. He studies me in Xaden’s hold with a sharp, assessing look before his eyes flick back up to him. “You’d better get her out of here before anyone sees,” he says, his tone edged with urgency.“I plan to,” Xaden replies, his voice

By the time I reach the fifth floor, my lungs are burning. The corridors of the healers' wing stretch endlessly before me, their floors reflecting the pale lanterns fixed to the walls as aesthetics I guess.Because there are bulbs illuminating the space already. My heartbeat refuses to settle.I check on rooms for her but I’m redirected to Ilias’ section. Some even frown at me for barging into the wrong room.I rush to Ilias’ part of the room and push the door open, expecting to see her under his care. But it isn’t Ilias I see. I stop before I can fully enter as I take in the shocking scene before me.Sloane is sitting upright on one of the beds, her fingers buried in the dark hair of a man crouching before her. Their lips are pressed together, completely lost in each- kissing.Sloane…is dating someone in this school? I had no idea until now.But beyond that shock is the sharp relief that settles on my chest. She’s fine. She’s okay. She’s okay enough to kiss and make funny moaning so

Xaden’s gaze shifts to Liam, sharp with suspicion. “It wasn’t taught in class. How do you know about it?”Liam lets out a quiet snort. “Same way you did, Draven. I went looking for knowledge.”Xaden doesn’t look convinced, the doubt lingering in his expression, but he doesn’t push further. Instead, he turns his attention back to Sloane. The healer remains silent, his eyes fixed and mind clearly working through a chain of thoughts none of us can see.“What’s a dragon crest?” Zarek asks, looking lost.I can hear Sloane’s uneven breathing loudly in my ears.Xaden’s jaw tightens.“Someone should say something, please,” Sloane presses, her gaze darting across every face in the room. Then the healer finally speaks.“The storm wasn’t natural.” He pauses, as if weighing his words carefully. “I suspected it.”Xaden says nothing, but his eyes narrow at the healer with expectation.“Suspected what?” Liam asks.“That the storm brought something with it.” The healer exhales slowly. “The prophecy…

“Ancestors of Supraveil? That’s…frightening.” Zarek straightens on his side beside Sloane.I inhale sharply, not finding it easy to digest his overwhelming revelations. “Vessel? If that… is true, why me? Why would any of them choose me of all students?” Sloane asks, her eyes widening.Healer Troy looks her way. “That- I don’t know.”“How can she get rid of it?” I ask, my voice sharpening than I feel inside.“That’s not something I know about also.” Healer Troy replies me.“But the six got rid of the power, you said. How did they do it?” Liam asks.“It wasn’t written in the book.” “What book?” Zarek asksHealer Troy hesitates, then- “Not a book I would recommend. There are certain things you students must not know about.”“Bullshit.” Zarek snaps, jolting me a little. “You think this is funny? If whatever history you’ve told us about weren’t bunch of craps you formulated by yourself, then show us the fucking book. Or I will report you for performing sorcery on her for whatever sick re

Xaden’s expression does not change. He is still looking at me.But his hand tightens slightly over my mouth. The movement is so subtle that anyone else might have missed it.I don’t.He is angry. Very angry even. The man speaks again.“I can’t wait any longer. Gwen has to die soon.”My eyes widen. They are talking about killing Xaden’s mother as casually as if they are discussing an inconvenience.“Shhh. Don’t speak so loudly.” Professor Imogene says.My heart pounds. I can only hope they can’t hear the loud sound of my heartbeat with their werewolf hearing.“When Gwen is gone, the pack members will demand that Xaden be made Alpha immediately.” She continues. The other man gives a quiet, bitter laugh.“Over my dead body. Xaden cannot be Alpha.”My gaze goes up, locking to Xaden’s.“Of course he can’t be.” Imogene says with so much bitterness I wonder why. “He’s cursed. They haven’t even found his fated mate, the one who is supposed to stabilize him. He can’t become Alpha if they don’
