Angela’s POV The moment we stepped out of Mr. Wilson’s classroom, Steph started talking about the dance. I was only half listening. My mind was still stuck on everything that had happened in the classroom, especially Darius. He had been at Eclipse Academy for less than a day, and somehow he had already managed to make himself the center of attention. Not that I could really blame him. He seemed to enjoy being the center of attention. Xavier walked beside me, and Silas was on my other side. Steph stayed close, talking about the dance tomorrow like it was the most important thing happening in the world. Darius followed behind us. Nobody had invited him. He didn’t seem to care. I glanced over my shoulder and caught him walking a few steps behind us with that same confident expression he’d worn since he’d walked into Mr. Wilson’s classroom. I shook my head and turned back around. “Does he just follow people around now?” I asked. Steph looked over her shoulder. “Apparently.” I laug

Darius’s POV I had been at Eclipse Academy for less than a day, and somehow I had already witnessed a dragon heir and a vampire heir nearly tear each other apart over a girl. Not just any girl, either. Angela. The tiny Fae girl had somehow managed to walk straight between them and stop the fight with nothing more than two hands pressed against their chests. I was still trying to understand what the hell I had just watched. I glanced toward Angela, who was standing between Xavier and Silas. The faint glow that had appeared over her hands was gone now, but I couldn’t forget what I’d seen. More importantly, I couldn’t forget what happened when she touched them. All three marks had reacted. I had seen the glow at Angela’s neck. I had seen the glow around Xavier’s mark. And I had seen the same faint light around Silas’s. That wasn’t normal. At least, I didn’t think it was. Then again, I had been at this school for only a short time, so what the hell did I know? I looked at the three

Xavier’s POV I finished adjusting the cuff of my shirt and took one last look at myself in the mirror before leaving my room. I had decided against the usual formal look for the dance. Instead of dress pants, I wore a pair of expensive dark blue jeans that fit perfectly without looking like I had spent half the night trying to make them look good. My shirt was dressier, fitted neatly across my shoulders, and I had paired it with a pair of dress shoes that kept the outfit somewhere between formal and casual. It was a school dance, not a royal ceremony. At least, that was what I kept telling myself. I stepped into the hallway and pulled my door closed behind me. I had barely taken a few steps when I noticed Silas standing across the hall at Angela and Steph’s room. I stopped. Of course he was already there. I rolled my eyes. Silas had apparently decided he needed to be the first one there. He was dressed for the dance, looking far more polished than he usually did at school, and he

Silas’s POV I had been enjoying the dance more than I expected to, mostly because Angela was standing beside me. That alone was enough to make the night interesting. She had Xavier on one side of her and me on the other, and somehow she seemed perfectly comfortable with both of us. After everything that had happened between Xavier and me, I still found it strange that we could stand beside each other without trying to tear each other’s heads off. Maybe it was because Angela was between us. Maybe neither of us wanted to be the reason she stopped smiling. Whatever the reason, I wasn’t about to complain. The music filled the gymnasium while students moved around us, talking, laughing, and dancing. The lights hanging above the floor reflected off Angela’s white dress every time she moved, making the tiny diamond sequins shimmer. She looked beautiful. I’d already noticed that before we’d even walked through the doors, but seeing her here, surrounded by hundreds of students, somehow ma

Darius’s POV I was having the time of my life. When I’d agreed to come to the dance with Steph, I’d expected music, food, and a bunch of students trying way too hard to look impressive. I hadn’t expected a dance train. Then again… Steph wasn’t exactly predictable. She laughed as she led the line around the gymnasium, her hair bouncing behind her while she threw another exaggerated kick into the air. Half the students copied her immediately. The other half laughed so hard they nearly stumbled over their own feet trying to keep up. I shook my head. Only a fairy could convince half the academy that marching around in a giant line was somehow dancing. “This is insane, Fairy.” I laughed out. She looked over her shoulder, beaming. “Isn’t it great?” She laughed louder, apparently taking my answer as the highest compliment imaginable. The line snaked around another table before curving back toward the dance floor. That’s when I saw her. Angela. She was standing in Xavier’s arms, smili
