Lorenzo’s POV.I didn’t know why I said what I said until I had said it.Marry her?Marriage was never in the cards for me. Our parents made it easy for me by not making me the only son. Matteo’s kids can continue La Famiglia’s (the family) legacy after him. So I was under no pressure to produce offsprings with some thoughtless sex object.I didn’t belong to the category of delusional people who believed in love, affection, or whatever else it was called. I was practical and realistic. Chicks want money, and men want sex- a clean, unattached exchange is the way to go. But, looking at the dazed lady in front of me, it seemed like the right call. When she said being around me was unbearable, she unknowingly gave me the material with which to build her cage. I had expected her to be silent or even say anything, but the expression of disgust she spat out at me. I might have come up with a better plan - one that didn’t involve marriage - if I had a

Sasha’s POV.The day went by rather quickly—a fact I was very grateful for. Since it was October, we were probably in the ‘shorter days’ season of Italy. I hadn’t brought myself to rise from the bed when Lisa came with the early lunch she promised. As I took the rectangular tray from her, she removed the handle of a small bag from her chair.“A few clothes I found. One or two should fit. Since you don’t seem to have arrived with any luggage,” she had explained, giving me the brown cotton bag.“Yes, I didn’t come with my things. Thank you very much. But I don’t want to cause any inconvenience…” I had started to protest with a polite smile before she cut me off.“No, no incovenience. They are clothes that the other helps sometimes leave here when they have to stay over. I’m sure they won’t mind that you’re borrowing them for a day or two. When they come tomorrow, we’ll get some clothes for you.”I couldn’t hold back from muttering, “I’m sure that’s the last thing your boss would pay fo

Sasha’s POV. It was Thursday morning. The wedding day. Who gets married on a Thursday, by the way? When Anne and I—and the mafia man that accompanied us—entered the first store, I hadn’t decided on what plan to go with. Either to buy so many expensive clothes that he’d regret meeting me when he sees the figures in his account statement or buy casual clothes to show him what sluttish really was. In the end, I ditched both plans. Both plans would require me being someone I wasn’t. Anne and I talked as we shopped. I already knew she was Lisa’s niece but I learnt she was a 22-year old who was training to be a fashion designer. She was in charge of laundry at the mansion, although another help was in charge of the brothers’ suits. I had no reason to put my mind to the wedding dress so it was a quick process. I checked for the one that was in my size, wore it to see that it was comfortable enough for me, and that was all.

Sasha’s POV.Despite the devil’s reemergence to bark orders at me while I did the job of my junior staff, Friday night was a very good one. Of course, the reason was the call I got from Jason. With Matteo and Lisa in the kitchen, the dining room wasn’t exactly private enough for us to talk. But, Jason’s sole purpose for calling, which was to confirm I was alive and in Italy, was the real reason behind the brevity of the call. He had called immediately he dropped my dad at his New York house. After his surprisingly theatrical breaths of relief about my being well, he promised to call me when he got back from a quick assignment. On my part, I was elated. I was closer to a perfect plan.I slept happier than I did in days. Until my phone’s ringtone woke me up ten minutes before 4 am. “Hello,” I croaked.“Oh, shit. I forgot it’s not morning there yet. I’ll call you back in…”That was when I opened my eyes.“No, Jason. Let’s talk now,” I cut in

Lorenzo’s POV.“Is our mafia queen not awake yet? That’s unusual,” Matteo asked Lisa as we took our seats by the dining table. That’s true. She’s now the queen of the Sicilian mafia. In my quest to punish her by making her helpless against me, I had given her the title that several women envied. That single fact added to the annoyance I had been feeling lately at the mere thought of her.She seemed to have mastered the art of pushing my buttons, from acting oblivious to my actions to walking around the house, laughing and looking annoyingly pretty. “We were together in the kitchen before she…” Lisa started to explain, moving towards the chair Sasha always favored—the farthest one that wasn’t facing mine.“No, that’s no longer her seat,” Matteo interrupted both her movement and speech, a look of amusement on his face. He pointed to the chair opposite his, that is, the next chair to my left. Lisa dropped the plate she was carrying in front of the chair, looking down. When she looked
