Mira’s POVThe window creaked open at midnight like it always did. I was already awake, waiting. Three years of this and my body still tingles the second I heard his soft footfall on the roof.He slipped through the narrow frame, landing quietly on the worn floorboards of my tiny room.Even in the dark I knew those broad shoulders anywhere. Kael.He crossed the room in two strides and pulled me up from the bed before I could get a word out.His mouth crashed into mine, hungry, desperate, like he hadn’t kissed me just last night. His hands moved over me, rough but careful and I melted right into him the way I always did.“Couldn’t wait,” he murmured against my lips, already tugging at my thin nightshirt. “Been thinking about you all day. Every damn meeting, every training session. Just you.”“Kael—” I started but he cut me off with another kiss, deeper this time. His tongue swept against mine in a slow stroke that stole my breath. He walked me backward until my knees hit the bed and we

Mira’s POVI ran.As fast as my legs could carry me, away from the sound of laughter and music.I didn't know where I was going. I just needed to get away. Away from the cheering especially away from the sight of Kael lifting Selene's hand like she was the most precious thing in the world.I ran into the cold kitchen storeroom and collapsed against the wall sliding down until my back hit the cold stone floor. Then I let the tears come. They poured out of me, hot, silent, endless. I pressed both hands over my mouth to muffle the sobs that wanted to tear out of my throat. My shoulders shook. My chest ached and I couldn't breathe. He promised. He promised. He promised. The words echoed in my head. Three years of sneaking around. Three years of stolen moments. Three years of believing I was special to him. That I mattered. And for what? To end up here, crying in a dark storeroom while the man I loved toasted his engagement to someone else. What was u thinking that a wolfless girl. The Be

MIRA'S POVI couldn't answer Finn's question. My throat burned and my body shook uncontrollably.Mara dropped to her knees beside me, her hands gripping my shoulders. "Mira, look at me. Look at me right now."I tried. I really did but my vision was swimming with dark spots dancing at the edges."She's going to pass out," Elara said, her voice sharp with panic. "Finn, carry her to the infirmary. Now."Finn's arms wrapped around me, lifting me off the cold floor. I wanted to tell him I was fine. That they didn't need to fuss but my body had other plans. And the world went dark. When I woke up, I was in the infirmary. The familiar smell of dried herbs and antiseptic filled my nose. I was lying on one of the narrow cots, a thin blanket pulled up to my chin.Elara was sitting beside me, her face etched with worry."You're awake," she breathed relief flooding her face "Thank the Moon Goddess."I tried to sit up but she pushed me back down gently."Don't move. You need to rest.""What happen

MIRA'S POVThe next few days passed in a blur, and I stayed in my room as much as possible, avoiding everyone.Mara brought me food, Finn checked on me and Elara came to make sure I was taking care of myself but I couldn't face them. I couldn't face anyone.Every time I closed my eyes, I saw Kael when he said he chose me.I'll wait forever. But he hadn't come back. Not that night. Not the next day. Not at all.And I told myself I didn't care.Liar.On the third morning, there was a knock on my door.I didn't answer because I never did but this time, the Mara walked in anyway."Up," Mara said In a firm voice that gave no room for arguments "Now. We have work to do."I curled tighter under the blanket. "I'm not feeling well.""Funny," she said dryly. "You've been 'not feeling well' for days now, and Elara said you're fine. Just pregnant."I flinched at the word."Mira, I know you're hurting. I know everything is a mess, but you can't stay in this room forever.""Watch me."She yanked th

KAEL'S POVThe lake was beautiful under the moonlight.I had made sure of it. Lanterns lined the shore, casting warm golden light across the water. Rose petals carpeted the path leading to a small table set for two, adorned with candles and the finest wine.Everything was perfect but it was not. This was supposed to be for Mira, not some girl. She had always imagined this and how I was giving it to another woman other than her.Selene sat across from me, her smile radiant, her hand occasionally reaching across the table to touch mine. She looked beautiful in her deep green silk gown, her hair cascading over her shoulders."You've outdone yourself, Kael," she said softly. "This is... magical."I forced a smile. "You deserve nothing less."She laughed light and pleased. "I was so worried earlier. You seemed so distracted."Where is she? What did my father want with her?I thought I kept wondering my father could be ... .well overbearing sometimes and I hope he hadn't scared her….“Kael!!
