InikoI waited two more days before the need to see my mate began tugging on me again. It isn’t just my mate this time. For the first time in my life, I’m alone – terribly, horribly alone. I’ve never been alone, not in this life at least. Since I have no recollection of my previous life, I have no idea if I was ever alone. If I was, it’s no wonder I was miserable. Dragons are communal creatures; we live in hordes for a reason. We enjoy being together.Since the pull to go home is more than just to see my mate, I plan to return at night. If she’s sleeping, perhaps I can stay and watch her sleep, hearing the sounds of the others nearby and getting a longer fill of the mate bond before leaving again. I need to come up with a better plan though. I can’t keep sneaking into the Academy and hoping I don’t run into anyone, and I never did get to see Raina after she shifted. She’s probably angry with me. She and I are good friends and she wasn’t alive during my first life, so she wouldn’t have

InikoHow can she be so callous? How can she act like our mate bond doesn’t matter?“Where is she living, Kaylani?” I growl as I follow my aunt out of the dining hall and back toward the area where my room with Brooke used to be.“Don’t pull me in the middle of your fight with your mate, Iniko. If you want to know what Brooke is up to, you need to ask her.”“I DID ask her. She didn’t answer me,” I growl. She spins around, not budging and holding my gaze when I nearly run into her.“She did answer your question, Iniko. You just didn’t like her answer. Perhaps, instead of running off, you should take some time to speak to the people you are actually angry at rather than taking it out on your mate,” she says.“I’m not taking anything out on Brooke,” I growl. She raises an eyebrow, holding my gaze long enough for me to press my lips together so I don’t roar in frustration, before she spins around and continues down the hallway. When she comes to a closet, she pulls out pants and a shirt th

InikoAfter talking to Cal, I began searching for Brooke’s scent. Since she and everyone else at the Academy move around all day, it was hard to find the most recent scent. When I did, it led me to dad and Merethyl’s home. I was confused until I remembered that Bajaro lives here with them.Interesting. My mate is finally trying to connect to her hyena side? I wonder what caused her to finally start connecting to her shifter side. I wonder if she's meeting with someone about her polar bear side as well.I stand outside, knowing my father is in there. I don’t want to start a fight in front of his family, so I wait for Brooke to come out. As soon as I see her walking out their front door, everything inside me relaxes. That is until my father has to open his big, fucking mouth.I can’t believe that Brooke thinks I don’t care about her. I told her I couldn’t be here where everyone knew my history except me. I didn’t tell her I was leaving her.Okay, I may have made it sound like I would hav

InikoDid I make sure my mate was covered in my marks? You’re fucking right I did. No one is going to take Brooke away from me.I’m sure she’ll get over the bit of embarrassment she feels. Dragons are possessive animals, just look at the mate marks that adorn the riders at this Academy.I can tell Brooke is annoyed with me, but I also know that every dragon, every shifter, and every elf at this Academy will know that she is mine. She slams the door to the bathroom, and I hear the water turn on. Since I know she’s angry with me, I wait until she’s done to go take my own shower. When I exit the bathroom, I’m surprised to find her gone.I growl, quickly getting dressed then following her scent to the Big House.I expected to find her in the dining hall. Instead, her scent leads up to the female’s dormitories.I’ve just taken a step when Aunt Kay’s voice rings out behind me.“Males are not allowed in the female dorms, Iniko. You know that.”I turn and look at her.“My mate is up there.”“T

BrookeHe left me. Again.I watch as he flies away, then as Raina lifts into the sky behind him, following him.I guess I could follow him, but I’m not really sure that he wants to be around me. I thought him marking me so possessively meant something, but I guess that was temporary.“I’m sorry he left, Brooke,” Kenna says.“It’s not your fault. You didn’t say anything that wasn’t true,” I watch until I can’t see his opal scales glittering in the sky any longer, then I turn around and my eyes meet Kendrick’s.“Feel like fighting?” he asks.“Yes,” I growl.“Let’s go.”I follow him back to Alpha Cedric’s packhouse and we get our swords. I didn’t think I’d be able to train every day, but Raina told me that I needed to tap into my dragon and heal my muscles.Since she’s been helping me connect with my dragon form, it was easier than I expected. So now, I don’t hold back. I go all out, knowing Kendrick is a much better swordsman than I am, and being mated to a dragon not only makes him stro
