“The poor girl had nowhere else to go,” the old man continued. “She had no choice but to sleep in the hallway with the other displaced residents. It wasn't until a few days ago, when the government rescue team arrived, that she was finally taken away.” Scarlett stood there frozen, her lips parted, and she held her hand closely to her chest.
