Chapter 42Damien’s POVThe written report arrived the next morning.I read it twice at the kitchen counter while Elena made coffee in silence and Sierra moved slowly through the living room, one hand on her stomach. The paper confirmed what the clinic had already said over the phone. Officially, the child was mine. The timing matched. Everything lined up.Still, something about the speed of it and the calm certainty Sierra carried sat wrong with me.Elena placed a cup beside me but didn’t speak. I could feel the distance the result had created between us, even while she continued sleeping in my room. Sierra, on the other hand, looked more settled by the hour.I set the report down.“We’re doing another test,” I said. Both women looked at me.Sierra’s expression tightened slightly. “You already have the results.”“I have one clinic’s results,” I replied. “I’m not satisfied with it. We’re going to my personal doctor for a second test.”Elena’s eyes met mine across the counter. I saw a

Chapter 44Damien’s POVThe drive to the clinic was quiet.Sierra sat beside me with one hand resting on her stomach, her attention on the window. Elena had stayed at the penthouse. I kept both hands on the wheel and my focus on the road, but the weight of the afternoon sat heavily in the car. One result already named me the father. In a few minutes, the second would either confirm it or break the story open.Sierra spoke without looking at me.“Whatever this says, I’ve already lived with the truth of it for months.”I didn’t answer. The clinic came into view before the silence could stretch further.Sierra’s POVI followed Damien into the private office and kept my expression calm.Inside, I was calculating every second. The first result had done its job. This second one needed to finish what the first started. Once both official reports matched, Damien’s sense of responsibility would harden into something harder to reverse. I had seen the way childhood absence worked on men like him

Chapter 46Damien’s POVMorning light moved across the bedroom floor as I finished adjusting my cuffs. It had been too many days since I last stepped properly into the office. Between the hospital, the tests, Sierra’s arrival, and everything that followed, work had been reduced to calls and half-attention. That could not continue. Kane Global would not run itself, and my dad was already using my absence as leverage.Elena watched me from the bed, quiet and thoughtful.“You’re going to the office today,” she said.“I have to.”She nodded once. No argument. No drawn-out complaint. Just a soft understanding that still carried tension underneath. I leaned down and kissed her forehead.“I won’t be late.”In the hallway, Sierra’s new door was open. She stepped out as I passed, one hand resting on her stomach.“Back to the office?” she asked.I didn’t answer. The front door closed behind me with a solid click.Elena’s POVThe house felt different the moment Damien left.Sierra came into the

Chapter 48Elena’s POVMorning light pushed through the curtains, thin and gray. Damien had barely slept. I felt it in the way he moved carefully, heavy, already carrying the night’s phone call.He sat on the edge of the bed tying his shoes when Sierra’s voice came from the hallway.“We need to talk before you leave.”Damien’s hands stilled. I sat up.Sierra stood in the doorway, one hand resting on the small curve of her stomach.“Not now,” Damien said.“Yes, now.” Sierra stepped inside without waiting for permission. “You disappeared to the hospital yesterday. You shut down the conversation last night. And this morning you’re already halfway out the door again. I’m not going to keep being the afterthought in this house.”I felt heat rise in my chest. “This is our bedroom.”Damien stood. “My mother had an unstable night. The hospital called after midnight. They want family there this morning. That is where I’m going.”“And after that?” Sierra asked. “Another full day of putting every

Chapter 50Elena’s POVWe dressed quickly and left the penthouse without waking sierra. The warmth of Damien’s hands was still on my skin, the memory of his body moving over mine still fresh, but the hospital call had cut cleanly through it.Damien drove in silence. His jaw was set, both hands tight on the wheel. I watched the city lights move across his face and tried not to think about Sierra sleeping under our roof while we crossed the city for the woman I had first met at that carefully arranged family dinner before the wedding. When we arrived, a nurse led us straight to the room. The atmosphere inside was quieter than before, heavier. Damien’s mother lay propped against the pillows, her working eye tracking us as we entered. Victor stood near the window, arms folded, expression unreadable.“She asked for both of you,” the doctor said in a low voice. “She’s been insistent.”Damien’s POVI moved to the side of the bed.My mother’s gaze shifted from me to Elena and back again.“You
