AvaJace’s dead grandfather was apparently hanging out inside my wolf’s memories.I didn’t even know how to put that in my diary.Dear Moon Goddess,Please remove deceased Walker from wolf.Actually, that might be my shortest entry ever.“He’s not a ghost.”I looked at Jace as we crossed campus.“I didn’t say he was.”“You’ve looked at me four times like you’re wondering whether my grandfather is haunting your wolf.”“Five.”“Ava.”“I’m thinking.”“About ghosts.”“Maybe.”Onyx huffed.William dead.“Thank you, Captain Obvious.”Two freshmen passing us looked terrified.I smiled at them.“Talking to his wolf.”They walked faster.Jace laughed.“You’re really improving your reputation.”“Yesterday I started a cult. Today I’m talking to invisible people. Tomorrow I’m aiming for complete social isolation.”He caught my hand.“Good luck.”I looked down at our fingers.“Possessive Alpha?”“No. I just don’t think you can stop talking long enough to achieve social isolation.”I punched his ar

AvaThere were apparently rules about dating your mate.I learned this at lunch. From Sara.“You haven’t gone on a date?”I took another bite of my sandwich. “We’ve been places.”“Where?”“The hockey rink.”“Doesn’t count.”“The library.”“Definitely doesn’t count.”“We went to the Full Moon Run.”Sara stared at me.“I was attacked by a rogue.”“Exactly.”I frowned.“We’ve kissed.”“Not a date.”“He annoys me daily.”“Also not a date.”I leaned back.“This relationship thing is exhausting.”Sara pointed her fork at me. “You two became mates and skipped every normal step. Has he even asked you to be his girlfriend?”I opened my mouth.Closed it.Huh.Jace was my mate.Everyone knew it.Half the school had apparently discussed our mating prospects before we’d even figured them out ourselves. But girlfriend?“No.”Sara looked horrified.“That bastard.”I laughed.“It’s not like that.”“It is exactly like that. Fate doesn’t get him out of dating.”Lyra perked up.Date.You don’t even know

AvaWhoever decided that turning into a wolf was a beautiful, magical experience deserved to be kicked in the shin.Repeatedly.Because there was absolutely nothing beautiful about the sound of my bones cracking while my boyfriend watched me scream on the ground.“Ava, look at me.”Jace’s voice reached me through the pain, but I couldn’t lift my head. My fingers dug into the grass as another wave of agony traveled down my spine.“Make it stop!” I cried.“I know, sweetheart. I know it hurts.”“No, you don’t! You said small truck!”Somewhere nearby, Corey laughed nervously.“Not helping!” Jace snapped.Lyra stirred inside me, stronger than I’d ever felt her.Trust me.I’m trying!Let go.I wanted to argue, but another bone shifted, and suddenly arguing seemed like a terrible use of my remaining energy. For eighteen years, I’d begged for this moment. I’d watched other students celebrate their first shifts, listened to their stories, and pretended I wasn’t jealous when they complained abo

AvaDear Moon Goddess,I HAVE FOUR PAWS!Well, technically, I don’t have them right now because I’m back in human form, but yesterday I had four actual paws, a tail, and enough fur to make a very expensive winter coat. Please don’t tell Lyra I said that. She has opinions about fur coats.First, thank You.I mean that. After eighteen years of begging, crying, and wondering why I was different, I finally shifted. And Lyra is beautiful. She’s enormous, which apparently surprises everyone. Personally, I think she’s perfect.Although we need to discuss the pain.Seriously? Was that necessary?Jace described it as being hit by a small truck.I would like to clarify that the truck was apparently carrying several other trucks. Also, nobody mentioned the tail.Do You have any idea how difficult it is to walk when there’s an extra appendage following you around?I tripped over it.Twice.Onyx laughed.I’m considering biting him next time. Then there’s the whole naked thing. You know, shifting b

Ava There are certain things you never want to hear your father say.Someone delivered the same medication that suppressed your wolf to the school clinic was definitely one of them.Especially when you attended a school full of young wolves.“How many bottles?” I asked.Dad glanced at the photograph in my hand. “Twenty-four.”My stomach dropped.“Twenty-four?”“They were sealed. None have been administered.”“How do you know?”“Because the healer checked the inventory.”I folded my arms. “And who ordered them?”“That’s what we’re investigating.”Of course it was.Apparently, that’s what we’re investigating had become the official Peters family motto.Lyra stirred inside me.Find.Working on it.Dad rubbed his forehead. “Ava, I need you to let security handle this.”“I am.”He raised an eyebrow.“I’m standing right here, aren’t I?”“That’s not particularly reassuring.”I sighed. “Dad, someone gave me those capsules for years. Now someone is trying to put them in the clinic where other
