"Sorry," Petra said to the person she had bumped into, quickly taking a step backwards. She had been so occupied with finding her way through the unfamiliar building that she had failed to notice someone approaching from the opposite direction. Her eyes were still lowered when she spoke, and she instinctively reached out to steady herself. However, when she finally raised her head, the apology died on her lips.Hubert West stood directly in front of her.For a moment, Petra simply stared at him, unable to hide her surprise. She hadn't expected to see him there, especially after everything that had happened between them. Her fingers tightened around the small handbag she carried, and the pleasant expression she had worn moments earlier disappeared. She frowned, wondering what he was doing in the building."Petra? His expression changed as he took in her dishevelled appearance and the way she was holding herself."Are you okay? Were you hurt?" Benjamin asked worriedly, gently cradling her head with one hand while resting the other on her shoulder. His eyes moved over her face and down her arms, checking for any sign of injury. "Look at me, Petra. Did he hurt you anywhere?" he asked, his voice low but filled with concern.Petra looked at him, and the tension she had been holding inside finally began to ease. She had been trying not to show how frightened and humiliated she felt, but seeing him beside her made it difficult to keep pretending that everything was fine."Almost," Petra replied with a pitiful
