**AAMON’S POV**Kagura stood in the lunch line with her head down, scanning the room without drawing attention. No one was watching her as ost students were too busy talking or staring at their phones. After a quick double-check, she reached out, slipped an orange into the pocket of her jacket, and walked away. She had no money for lunch and was clearly hungry again. She moved to the far back of the cafeteria, chose an empty table, and sat alone. There, she pulled the orange out, spread a napkin on the table, and began peeling it with quiet concentration. At our table, I turned my phone toward Clinton for what felt like the twentieth time.“One more time,” I said.He groaned. “Come on, man. You’ve got it.”“I need to get this right.”“Fine.” He held the phone steady while I practiced the basic hand signs I had learned from the app: How are you? What is your name? How do you like this school? When I finished, I dropped my hands. “Well?”“Same as before. You nailed it.”Freya, Clinton
