All Chapters of Fated To The Three : Chapter 61 - Chapter 70

Callum laid out his leads in the deep quiet of the east library. It was past one in the morning, and none of them had gone back to sleep after the north field. The bond was still running at that new, fuller deep sound, the chord closing note they had all felt when Aria shifted and the four of them had snapped awake as one. Sleep was not a thing any of them could reach for, not yet. So Caden had made tea, which was so not like him that no one said a word about it, because pointing it out would have made him feel strange and the tea was steady and warm and just what the hour needed. Cole sat with his hurt ankle up on a second chair. Senna's ten days truly ended tomorrow, and he was choosing to keep the letter of the rule even though the heart of it had died in his own thought days ago. He was still now, not the restless stillness of a wolf pacing under the skin, but the on purpose quiet of someone saving force for a fight he knew was coming.

The letter from Zane came before dawn. Aria found it at her door, pushed under the gap by the morning runner, the Ashveil seal dark against the pale paper. She picked it up and held it for a moment, feeling the Shard's quiet knowing of the wax. Not the sharp blade of Dorian's nearness. Something warmer. Zane. She shut the door and sat at her desk by the garden window. The sky outside was still dark, the first grey light only a hint at the edge. The house was quiet, the pack still sleeping, the bond humming low and steady in three ways. She broke the seal and read. The letter was formal, because Zane was careful. It moved through open smooth talk ways, and he knew other eyes would fall on it before hers. But she had been learning his words over two letters now, and the message under the formality was clear. Dorian had been to the ruins. Not lately. Not since the failed asks. He ha

The envoy came at noon. Word reached Aria through the bond first, a ripple of not ease from the east gate, then through Nyla, who found her in the east garden with the notebook already open. "Dorian sent a new envoy," Nyla said. "Two of them. A woman and a man. Ashveil wolves. They are at the gate now." Aria went still. The Shard hummed low against her chest, not the sharp blade of Dorian's nearness, but something else. Knowing. Wanting to know. "Names," she said. "Lirien Ashveil and her brother Thorne." Nyla looked at the notebook. "Lirien is a power worker. Sharp. Calm. Been in Dorian's close circle for years. Thorne is younger. A study person. Reads old pack magic and bond deep sound." "Why are they here." "Open reason is more smooth talk. Hidden reason is anyone's guess." Nyla met her eyes. "But given what we know about the ruins and

The morning times with Callum became the fixed point of her days. He came to her door every morning at six with books and notes and the focused care of someone who had found the most big thing and was giving himself to it fully. She made tea because she had started making tea in the mornings, which was new, and she set it on the desk and they sat side by side rather than across because side by side was better for reading the same page and they had stopped being formal about nearness at some point she could not clearly name. The study was, she was finding, the most worth watching thing she had ever done. Not because it was easy. It was not easy. The writing was spread across three tongues, two of which she could read well and one of which she was learning fast enough to follow the thought but slowly enough that Callum sometimes read parts aloud when her pace slowed the work. The thought was thick and in places not agreein

Rook ran the talk on Friday. She had asked him to run it because Rook's talks had a clear feel that no one else's did, which was that they held just the facts needed and not one word more and the people in the room came away knowing just what they needed and just what their part was and just why it counted. The small training room held fourteen people. She had not been sure how many would come. She had asked Dara and Dara had asked her most true training partners and word had moved through the pack in the clear way it moved when it was not pointed from the top but grew from inside, and fourteen people had shown up on Friday morning with the focused feel of people who had chosen they were part of something and meant to be of use to it. She looked at them before Rook began and thought about the ward who had cleaned this room for eleven years and the ward who had never been let to go to a talk in the ma
