VIKTORI stepped past them into the big warehouse where tall stacks of wood crates reached up toward the dark roof. I walked straight to a table in the middle where three gang members sat playing poker. Miller sat at the head, smoking a fat cigar and swirling amber whiskey in a heavy glass.Miller looked up slow when he heard our boots on the floor. He threw his cards down with a smug smirk."Well, if it isn't Viktor," Miller drawled, standing up to fix his vest. "Word on the street is your family's house is a total mess right now, so I really did not expect to see your face down at the docks today.""You are holding two boxes of guns that belong to my family," I said flatly, walking closer until I stood just feet away."Your group owes back taxes for storing things here," Miller replied. He took the cigar out of his mouth and blew a thick cloud of smoke. "Prices go up, and security costs money. If you want your smuggled guns back, you are going to pay the big fee right now.""I pay n

VIKTOR My phone rang while I was going through the port reports. I glanced at the screen and frowned at the unfamiliar number before answering. “Hello?” “Is this Viktor Morozov?” My expression changed. “Yes. Who is this?” “This is Officer Ricci from the Carabinieri station in Palermo. We have a woman here who gave us your number. Her name is Charlotte—” “Lottie?” There was a short pause. “Yes. She asked that we contact you.” I pushed my chair back. “What happened?” “She was brought in from a school after an incident involving a child.” My jaw tightened. “What incident?” “I cannot discuss the details over the phone. She is being held here while we determine what happened.” “I am coming.” I ended the call and grabbed my jacket. “Keon.” He appeared at the office door almost immediately. “Boss?” “Get the car.” He took one look at my face and nodded without asking questions. “Right away.” The entire drive to the station, I kept thinking about the same thing. Why the hell

LOTTIE“Who was watching that school?”Viktor’s question sliced through the room, and my stomach dropped so hard that for a second I forgot how to breathe. Igor’s eyes narrowed on me too, waiting for an answer, and I forced myself to keep my face blank even though every part of me was screaming. “I don’t know.” Viktor pushed away from the wall, his injured knee making his movement slightly slower than usual, but there was nothing weak about the way he looked at me. “You’re lying.” “I said I don’t know.” “Then why did you go pale?” I looked away, refusing to meet his eyes. Igor stepped closer, his expression becoming colder with every second. “You have been hiding something since you came into this house. Now you are involved with a child, a school, and a stranger watching her. Explain yourself.” My fingers curled into my palms. “I didn’t do anything.” “Then explain why the school has your name, why you have been calling that girl, and why someone has been watching her.” My thro

LOTTIE I barely slept that night. Every time I closed my eyes, I saw Igor lying beneath those hospital monitors while the doctors fought to keep him alive. His words kept returning too, especially the part about teaching me the company. I had spent my entire life being told I was useless, reckless, and incapable of handling anything important, so the idea of Igor trusting me with a business empire made no sense. The only explanation I could think of was that he knew he was running out of time. My phone sat on the nightstand. I had turned it facedown after Mrs. Parker’s messages, but I could still feel its presence beside me. Someone was watching Nevaeh. Someone knew where she went to school. I had no idea who they were or what they wanted, and I couldn’t risk calling the Parkers again after their warning. The worst part was knowing I was trapped in Sicily while my daughter was somewhere in Palermo, completely unaware that the woman who had frightened her at school was the mother

VIKTORI found my father’s decision waiting for me before I even reached my office. The moment I stepped inside, I saw the file on my desk and knew exactly what it was. Igor rarely left paperwork without telling me, especially anything involving the company, and after yesterday’s conversation, I already knew what I was about to find. I opened the folder and scanned the documents, my jaw tightening when I reached the section detailing Lottie’s shares. My father had transferred a significant portion of his personal holdings to her.Not enough to control the company, but enough to give her a serious voice in every major decision.I read the document again, hoping I had misunderstood something.I hadn’t.My phone rang before I could finish.“Keon.”“Boss, we have an update on the Parker family.”I leaned against the desk.“Go ahead.”“The Parkers have been receiving anonymous payments for years.”My attention sharpened.“From whom?”“We’re still tracing the original source, but the paymen
