Ophelia povI wake up to the sound of voices somewhere far away. My head feels heavy, body aches in places I don’t think are supposed to hurt and I can’t remember what happened before I passed out. I’m clearly laying on a bed, it’s soft in the worst way possible and the air in here smells off. The memory of ropes flashes in my mind and panic immediately floods me. I try to sit up but my arms feel weak while the voices in the distance keep talking. “Fuck,” I whisper, barely hearing my voice over the sound of my heartbeat. They sold me. Those fucking rogue bastards sold me and now, I’m stuck somewhere worse than a stale smelling room. My breathing becomes faster, more ragged and soon, the room tilts and everything around me goes black. The next time I open my eyes, something has changed and not in a good way. I’m too warm, almost burning up and there’s a solid wall of muscle pressed against my back and another one against my front. I try to move only to realize an arm is thrown ov

Tate povThe patrol drags out as boring as it usually does. Hayes and I move along the edge of the territory, checking the usual weak points and any signs for possible rogue activity when the maid from the house opens the mind-link. She sounds panicked and her voice is rushed as she blurts the words, “Alpha Hayes, Alpha Tate, the girl in the house. She said she needed to pee in the pushes, begged me to tears and I swear, I barely looked away for a split second. She’s gone, I called out to her but I think she’s running.” I can still hear the echo of the maid’s voice as my brother stops dead in his tracks and his entire body goes rigid. “What?” I call out to him with a goofy grin and waggle my eyebrows, “scared the little scum will escape? Calm down, there’s no way she’s getting out of the territory, even if she manages to get over the walls.” Hayes doesn’t answer, he just takes off running back toward the house like his ass is on fire. “Fuck,” I hiss and follow right after him. Wh

Sarah povI can’t sit still, no matter how hard I try to just stop and breathe. The living room feels too big and too small at the same time without my girl home. I keep pacing the area - from the fireplace to the windows, then back again, next to the doorway and again, back to the windows. My hands won’t stop moving either - I keep rubbing my arms like I’m freezing, but in reality, I just need something to do so I won’t lose my mind for good.Luka is sitting on the edge of the couch, his eyes tracking my every movement. Thankfully, he has enough decency in him not to try to make me sit down and breathe. I think he knows better than that. “Sarah,” he all but whispers my name, “baby, you’re going to wear a hole in the floor.” I stop pacing for a second and turn to look at him. “I can’t help it. All I can do is hear Bree’s words on repeat in my head. Our daughter feels trapped, Luka. She believes we, her own family, don’t trust her at all. She’s scared of her own birthday because she

Bree pov“Hello?” I answer the call, not checking the phone screen for who’s the caller, sounding like a darn dead person. People really should stop calling this early in the morning, it’s a crime. There’s nothing but silence from the other side of the call and I’m nearly ready to curse out whoever pulled me out of the sexy dream when the voice stops me. It’s barely a whisper, but I could recognize that voice anywhere. “Bree-” She barely says my name when I panic, sit up in the bed and start rambling. “Ophelia? Goddess, is that really you? Where are you? Are you okay? The pack is mad with worry, your parents-”I don’t even get to finish what I said before there’s a sound of a crash from her side and suddenly, the line goes dead. I stare at the phone in my hand, the screen already switched back to the home page with no call showing. Panicking, I press the recent calls and check the unknown number. “No, no, no-” I repeat and redial the last call but it doesn’t even ring. There’s no

Tate povI stretch out on the couch chuckle, scrolling through half-assed messages from the group chat while the phone call is set on a loudspeaker. Jace is still going on about last night’s fight at the bar, Marcus is planning the next one, and Derrick somehow managed to send a voice note of himself laughing so hard he almost dropped his phone in the toilet. “I’m telling you, Tate, the guy tried to pay with leaves again,” Jace is saying on the other end, voice full of delighted disbelief he gets every time some idiot wanders into our territory. “I nearly pissed myself.” I grin and tip my head back against the cushion. “You’re lying.” “Swear on my left nut, dude. Security had to drag the poor bastard out while he was still asking if he could come back to look at the light tomorrow.”I let out a loud bark of laughter right when Tilly appears in the doorway, so I wave her closer. “Go air out Hayes’s room. Open the windows, change the sheets if you have to, and spray that scent sup
