Silas raised his voice. "Fine, I'll pay you back tomorrow, alright?"Cassidy had the kind of eyes that made people protective of her, and at present, they had a twinkle in them. She stepped over and took my hand, lowering her voice. "Whitney, it's just a couple thousand dollars. What's there to be mad about? Just apologize to Silas, and let's put this behind us."I looked at her and suddenly felt like I didn't know her anymore. In the past, whenever Silas and I argued, she'd always have my back and chew out Silas for me.In our four years of college, Silas was the one person Cassidy hated the most. She thought he wasn't good enough for me. Every time they met, it felt like a war was going on, and neither of them would back down. They'd argue over everything under the sun, from what meals we should have and what movies we should watch to where we should go shopping. It used to give me a headache, and I'd just zone out on my phone to escape.Until one time, I saw them suddenly burs

I had even recorded a video of Silas drying my hair for me and posted it on my social media to show off how much he cared about me.Cassidy had left a comment on that post. "Come on, he's just putting on an act. You could spend 20-odd bucks at a salon, and it'd even come with a head massage!"I'd laughed and replied, "He's my personal hairstylist. No one else compares."But now, his attention was no longer reserved for me alone."My parents are in Elmsworth?" Silas' voice pulled me back to the present."Flora's sick," I said. "She's at Elmsworth General Hospital. Patrick called you, but he couldn't reach you."Silas' expression instantly turned tense. He checked his phone and saw several missed calls. "I must have missed it because I was helping Cady wash her hair. Come on, let's go to the hospital now."He reached out to take my hand, but I stepped aside and avoided him. His hand froze in midair before he awkwardly pulled it back. "You're always getting upset over nothing," h

I suddenly found it a little funny. Silas had mentioned "the three of us". That meant he still included Cassidy in his plans."No, Silas," I said. "You can go ahead and keep being her knight. I'm done chasing after you."Silas was silent for a while before slowly speaking. "Are you still angry? Because I took care of Cassidy? I'm only doing it because she twisted her ankle. There's really nothing else to it. Whitney, Cady is your best friend. Can't you be a little more considerate?""Silas, won't you try to understand where I'm coming from, then?" I asked softly. "I don't want to be caught between the two of you. Love and marriage are matters between two people, not three. Anyway, just transfer me my money, and we'll call it even."His breathing grew heavier. "Whitney, you even left the card behind. Are you really abandoning me too? We've been together for five years! You can't break up with me just because I prioritized Cassidy over you this one time—""It's not just this one tim

Cassidy's voice shot up instantly. "You don't have any money? How could you not? Your family's rich! Just ask your parents for some! Your mom likes me well enough anyway.""I'm saving my money up for my wedding with Whitney!" Silas exclaimed. "I can't give you any more!"Cassidy laughed like she'd heard the funniest joke. "Are you kidding me? Whitney doesn't even want you anymore! Who are you marrying? A ghost?"Silas' expression darkened even more. "Cassidy, watch your mouth! My business with Whitney is none of your concern."Cassidy raised her voice right back. "I want no part in your mess at all! I just want the money! You promised to be my knight! You can't go back on your word!"Silas rubbed his temples, frustrated. "Cassidy, why can't you learn from Whitney and stand on your own two feet?"Cassidy stared at him in disbelief. "Since when does a princess need to earn money? Isn't that your job? You promised Whitney you'd take care of me! If it weren't for you, Whitney wouldn'
