All Chapters of My Sister-in-Law Was Signing Lies: Chapter 1 - Chapter 9

After staying up all night, I forced myself to take deep breaths to calm down.Since Leroy was deaf and mute, Emilia must have done something to manipulate him.If I could get around her and communicate directly in writing, I could clear up the misunderstanding. In the morning, I withdrew a hundred thousand dollars in cash from the bank and stuffed it inside my bag, which contained a letter I wrote last night. The letter contained details of what I intended to do with the money as well as my suspicions of Emilia lying to Leroy. Then, I took a taxi to Leroy's apartment, the same one I helped him cover half the down payment years ago. After ringing the doorbell for what felt like ages, the door finally opened just enough to reveal a tiny crack. The person at the door was Emilia’s mother. She was frowning and gripping the doorframe tightly.“What are you doing here? Leroy isn't planning to meet anyone today.”I dismissed her. “I need you to move out of the way. This is my brother

“There are three hundred thousand in that card and another hundred-and-fifty-thousand in my savings account. That’s enough to cover the fine.”Then, I fixed an iron look at Emilia and said aloud, “We’re not selling the house, I’ll pay the fine! All Leroy needs to do is focus on his recovery. I won’t have him pay even a single cent!”Emilia turned deathly pale in an instant while her eyes widened in panic. She began to dart her eyes around the room frantically. If I paid off the fine, her meticulous plan to sell the house and take all the money for herself would fall apart. With that, she turned to Leroy and started to gesture exaggeratedly in sign language again. She was a masterful actor and even faked tears so she would come across as being the victim in this situation. At first, all Leroy did was stare at the items I set on the table with a flicker of doubt in his eyes. After several seconds of Emilia speaking to him using sign language, his body language changed, and he became

On Saturday morning, I had just gotten in touch with Mr. Newman, a language interpreter from the State Commission for the Disabled, when the doorbell rang.“Leah! Come out right now!”It was my uncle shouting outside. When I looked through the peephole, I saw the hallway crowded with people. There was my uncle, my aunt, Emilia, and Dana. They were all in a hysterical fit.In the middle was Leroy, who was dragged along by them. His eyes were sunken, and he seemed like he was agitated to the point of breaking.I proceeded to open the door and confront them icily while leaning against the doorframe.“Leah! Have you no shame?” my uncle exclaimed while pointing an accusing finger at me, “You’re coming with me right now to lift the injunction! I’ll have you know that the factory manager brought a crew of people to Leroy’s house yesterday to demand payment! Are you going to just watch idly while they put your brother behind bars? You’re his sister, how could you be so heartless?”My a

Leroy suddenly unleashed a terrible cry that echoed across the building. He was shaking violently. He no longer regarded Emilia with the same trust. When he began to speak to her using sign language, his gestures were performed with an overwhelming emotion that was evocative of his agitation.“All this time, you have been lying to me? I trusted you wholeheartedly, but all you wanted was to steal my house!”Emilia recoiled in hurt but continued to deny the allegations as she signed back at him. “It’s not… Leroy, please let me explain. It was your sister who forced me to do this…”I interrupted them sharply. “Of course you’d want to deceive Leroy. How else are you going to seize his property and make off with the money so you can pay off your lover's gambling debts?”With that, I unveiled my trump card. I produced a stack of bank statements, each stamped with the bank's official seal, from my bag and scattered them all over the floor.“Did you think the house was the only thing I h
