Sabine's POV I woke to the sound of Riven choking. My head throbbed where it had hit the tree. Blood stuck my hair to my face. Every muscle in my body screamed in protest as I forced my eyes open. The scene before me was a nightmare made real. Vrael held Riven by the throat. Lifting him off the ground. Squeezing slowly. Not fast enough to kill. Just enough to hurt. To watch him suffer. Through the bond, I felt everything. Riven's pain. His lungs burning. His vision darkening at the edges. But I also felt his refusal to show fear. Even dying, even knowing he had no chance, he met Vrael's burning eyes without flinching. That was the man I loved. Stubborn to the very end. Evander lay crumpled against a boulder. Unconscious. Blood matted his dark hair. His breathing was shallow.
