By evening, I had my answer. Martin intended to make good on the promise I'd made by the pool. I realized it the second we sat down for dinner. Instead of taking the same seat he'd occupied the night before, Martin pulled out the chair beside mine. My husband sat across from us. He didn't notice the change. Of course he didn't. Before we'd even properly started eating, his phone was already in his hand, his attention buried in another work email while the food on his plate went practically untouched.
