Silence was the first thing I noticed. Not the peaceful kind that makes you feel safe, but the kind that presses against your ears and makes your chest tighten like something is wrong even before you understand why. My eyes slowly opened, heavy and disoriented, and the first thing I saw was a ceiling I didn’t recognize.White. Clean. Expensive-looking.This wasn’t my room.My breath caught instantly as I tried to move, only to feel a sharp wave of dizziness crash through my head. I groaned softly, pressing my fingers to my temple as fragments of memory began to surface—walking alone, the faint sound of footsteps behind me, the sudden stop of a car… then darkness. My heart jolted.“No…” I whispered, forcing myself upright. The bed I was lying on was large, too soft, too perfect. The kind of bed that didn’t belong in an ordinary place. My feet touched the cold marble floor as I swung my legs over the edge, the chill biting into my skin. I wasn’t home. I wasn’t anywhere familiar.I stood

The second day felt worse than the first. Not because anything had changed—but because nothing had. The room was still the same, the silence still suffocating, and the reality still unshakable.I was trapped.I hadn’t slept properly. Every time I closed my eyes, I saw his face. Luca De Santis. Cold, controlled, too calm for someone who had just taken a person’s freedom without blinking.I sat on the edge of the bed, staring at the untouched food tray from yesterday. It had been replaced. Fresh food. Fresh water. Same note.“Eat.”Short. Commanding. Like he expected obedience.I pushed it aside immediately.“I’m not his pet,” I muttered under my breath. My stomach tightened anyway.Stubbornness was one thing. Hunger was another.I stood up, pacing the room again. I had already checked everything yesterday, but I refused to accept there was no way out. There had to be something I missed.A vent. A hidden panel. A weak point. But everything was too perfect.Too intentional.Like the room

I hated the dress before I even put it on.It wasn’t mine. None of this was mine. The silk fabric slid over my skin like it belonged in another life—one I didn’t choose, one I didn’t ask for. Black, elegant, simple in a way that still somehow screamed wealth.“Of course they picked black,” I muttered, staring at myself in the mirror.Like I was mourning something.Or someone.I turned slightly, the reflection staring back at me unfamiliar. My hair was done too—softly styled without my permission. It made me look… different. Softer. More like someone who belonged in a world like this.I hated that.A knock came at the door.I didn’t answer immediately. It opened anyway.Marco stepped in.His eyes briefly scanned me before he nodded once. “It’s time.”I scoffed. “Like I have a choice.”“You don’t,” he said calmly.I rolled my eyes and grabbed the hem of the dress. “Yeah, yeah. Lead the prisoner to her execution dinner.”He didn’t react. That silence was becoming his personality. We walk

I stood in the middle of the room, staring at the door.Do not open this door.Luca's voice kept replaying in my head. The mansion had gone completely silent again.Too silent.I took a few steps backward until my legs hit the edge of the bed.I sat down.My hands were shaking.I hated that.I hated feeling afraid.Especially here.Especially when I didn't even know what I was afraid of.A sound came from the hallway.Footsteps.Slow.I immediately stood. They stopped outside my door.I held my breath.Nothing.Then three soft knocks.Knock.Knock.Knock.I stared at the door."Luca?"No answer.I took one step toward it.Then stopped. He had specifically told me not to open it.I wasn't stupid. At least, I hoped I wasn't.Another knock. This time harder."Open the door."It wasn't Luca.My heart dropped.I stepped backward."Who are you?"Silence.Then—"Christiana."I froze.Nobody in this house called my name like that.I moved closer to the door without touching it."How do you kn

“They came to take you home.”I stared at Luca. For a moment, I couldn't even process the words.Home.The word should have made me feel safe.Instead, it made something twist painfully inside my chest.“What home?”Luca didn't answer.I laughed once, but there was nothing funny about it.“You can't just say something like that and then stand there quietly.”His eyes remained on mine.“You don't know what you're asking for.”“I've spent days being locked inside this place. I think I've earned the right to ask.”He looked away. That irritated me even more.“Tell me about my father.”His jaw tightened.“Not tonight.”“Why?”“Because you're already overwhelmed.”“No. I'm angry.”“Ariella—”“Don't.”The way he said my name made me stop for half a second. Then I remembered. He knew my name.He knew about my mother. He knew about my father. He knew things about my life that I had spent years believing were buried in the past. And somehow, he expected me to sit quietly and accept that.“You'
