Ariella Stone is an independent young woman whose life is turned upside down when she is kidnapped by Luca De Santis, a powerful and emotionally closed-off man who is convinced she is the exact look-alike of his dead lover, Isabella De Santis. He locks her into his world and gives her 365 days to fall in love with him, while she fights him fiercely and refuses to lose her identity. As days pass, Ariella begins to see cracks in Luca’s cold personality, while Luca finds himself drawn to her in ways he cannot control, blurring the line between obsession and genuine love. Their emotional tension grows stronger as jealousy, protection, and attraction begin to mix. However, the truth slowly unfolds when Ariella discovers she is not just a resemblance but is connected to Isabella’s past in a way Luca never revealed. Feeling betrayed and used, she tries to escape his world completely. At the same time, Luca’s enemy, Adrian Volkov, emerges, revealing that Isabella’s death was not accidental and that Ariella is now part of a dangerous game tied to Luca’s past. When Ariella is put in real danger, Luca is forced to choose between his need for control and his growing love for her. He risks everything to save her, finally admitting his feelings are real and not just a replacement for his past. In the end, Ariella chooses freedom over staying in his world, leaving despite their bond. Luca lets her go, but he never moves on, carrying her memory as the only woman who broke through his darkness.

Chapter 1: The Girl Who Shouldn’t Exist

Silence was the first thing I noticed.

Not the peaceful kind that makes you feel safe, but the kind that presses against your ears and makes your chest tighten like something is wrong even before you understand why. My eyes slowly opened, heavy and disoriented, and the first thing I saw was a ceiling I didn’t recognize.

White. Clean. Expensive-looking.

This wasn’t my room.

My breath caught instantly as I tried to move, only to feel a sharp wave of dizziness crash through my head. I groaned softly, pressing my fingers to my temple as fragments of memory began to surface—walking alone, the faint sound of footsteps behind me, the sudden stop of a car… then darkness.

My heart jolted.

“No…” I whispered, forcing myself upright.

The bed I was lying on was large, too soft, too perfect. The kind of bed that didn’t belong in an ordinary place. My feet touched the cold marble floor as I swung my legs over the edge, the chill biting into my skin. I wasn’t home. I wasn’t anywhere familiar.

I stood slowly, unsteady, my eyes scanning the room.

It was enormous.

Minimalist, modern, and clearly owned by someone who didn’t just have money—but had power. Dark curtains covered what I assumed was a window, blocking out any sense of time. A glass table sat neatly in the corner, untouched. Everything was too clean. Too controlled.

Like I wasn’t in a place someone lived… but somewhere someone ruled.

My throat tightened.

“Hello?” I called out, my voice sounding too small in the space. I cleared my throat and tried again, louder. “Is anyone there?!”

Silence answered me.

I took a cautious step forward, then another. My heart beat faster with every movement, each sound of my bare feet against the floor echoing back at me like I wasn’t alone, even if I couldn’t see anyone.

“Okay, Ariella… think,” I muttered to myself. “You’re fine. You’re just… lost. Or kidnapped. Or—no, don’t think like that.”

But even as I tried to calm myself, my instincts screamed otherwise.

Because nothing about this felt accidental.

The door clicked.

My body froze instantly.

Slow footsteps followed—measured, calm, deliberate. Whoever was coming didn’t walk like they were in a hurry. They walked like they had all the time in the world… and knew I had none.

The door opened fully.

And then I saw him.

Everything in me stopped.

He was tall—unfairly tall. Dressed in a perfectly tailored black suit that made him look even more imposing than the room itself. His presence filled the space immediately, as if the air had shifted to accommodate him. Dark hair. Sharp jawline. Expression unreadable.

But it was his eyes that made my breath catch.

Cold. Intense. Watching me like I was not a stranger—but something he already knew.

Something he had been waiting for.

My hands curled into fists without me realizing.

“Who are you?” I asked, forcing my voice to stay steady even though my chest was tightening. “Why am I here?”

He didn’t answer.

Not immediately.

Instead, his gaze moved over me slowly—too slowly—like he was confirming something only he could see. It wasn’t a normal look. It wasn’t curiosity either.

It was recognition.

That realization made my stomach twist.

“I said—who are you?” I repeated, louder this time. “And why am I in this place?”

Finally, he spoke.

But his voice was calm. Too calm.

As if my panic meant nothing.

“You’re awake,” he said simply.

My brows furrowed. “That’s what you choose to say right now?”

He ignored my question.

Instead, he stepped further into the room, closing the door behind him with a soft click that somehow sounded louder than it should have.

My instincts screamed at me to move back.

So I did.

One step.

Then another.

He noticed immediately.

“Don’t,” he said quietly.

That one word made me pause.

Not because it was loud or aggressive—but because it wasn’t. It was controlled. Certain. Like it wasn’t a suggestion, but a fact I was expected to obey.

“I don’t know who you think you are,” I said, forcing strength into my tone, “but you can’t just bring me here and expect me to listen to you.”

A faint shift passed through his expression.

Not anger.

Something else.

Interest.

That unsettled me more.

“You talk too much,” he said.

I scoffed despite the fear crawling up my spine. “And you don’t talk enough. Answer my question—why am I here?”

For a moment, he said nothing.

Just watched me.

Like I was a puzzle he had already started solving.

Then he said something that made my stomach drop.

“You look exactly like her.”

Silence hit the room.

My confusion replaced fear for a second. “Like who?”

His eyes darkened slightly.

The air felt heavier.

“Isabella,” he said.

The name meant nothing to me—but the way he said it made it feel like it should.

I shook my head. “I don’t know who that is.”

“I know,” he replied.

That answer made my skin crawl.

“Then let me go,” I said firmly, stepping back again. “I don’t care about your dead ex or whoever she is. I’m not involved in this.”

His jaw tightened at my words.

A small reaction—but sharp enough to notice.

“You’re not leaving,” he said.

My heart dropped.

“What?”

He took a step closer.

Just one.

But it felt like the entire room shrank.

“You’re going to stay here,” he continued calmly, “for three hundred and sixty-five days.”

I stared at him like I had misheard.

“Are you insane?” I laughed, but there was no humor in it. “You can’t keep me here for a year. That’s kidnapping.”

“I’m aware of what it is,” he said simply.

My breathing quickened. “Then let me go!”

He tilted his head slightly, studying me.

As if I was overreacting.

As if I wasn’t trapped.

“After 365 days,” he said slowly, “you will either leave… or you won’t want to.”

Something inside me snapped.

“I will never want anything from you,” I said sharply.

For the first time, something flickered in his eyes.

Not anger.

Not amusement.

Something deeper.

Almost like a warning.

“We’ll see,” he said quietly.

My fists trembled now. “What is wrong with you? You can’t just decide someone’s life like this!”

He stepped closer again.

This time, I stood my ground.

He stopped right in front of me.

Too close.

Close enough that I could feel the faint scent of his cologne—expensive, dark, overwhelming in a way that made my head spin slightly.

“You’re exactly like her,” he murmured again, almost to himself.

“I’m not her,” I said firmly.

His gaze dropped to my face for a second longer than necessary.

Then he said something that made my entire world tilt.

“I know,” he repeated softly. “That’s the problem.”

Before I could ask what he meant, he turned away and walked toward the door.

I followed him instantly.

“Hey! You can’t just walk away after saying that!”

He paused with his hand on the door.

Without turning back, he spoke.

“You will get used to this place, Ariella Stone.”

My name on his lips sent a strange chill through me.

“How do you know my name?” I demanded.

A pause.

Then—

“I know everything I need to know about you.”

The door opened.

He stepped out.

And just like that, he was gone.

Leaving me standing in a silent, locked world I didn’t understand…

with a year I didn’t ask for.
