All Chapters of The Wolf They Rejected, The Hybrid Who Chose Her: Chapter 1 - Chapter 10

I don't run. Not this time. My body wants to, every instinct screaming at me to flee, to put distance between myself and whatever just answered me, but my feet stay rooted to the forest floor like the earth itself has claimed me.The silence shifts. No, not silence. Something is moving through it, slow and deliberate, watching. The air grows colder with each passing second, pressing against my skin until goosebumps ripple down my arms. My breath comes out uneven, visible in the night air. That's not normal. Not here. Not this time of year.A branch snaps somewhere to my left. I spin toward the sound, heart slamming against my ribs. "Who's there?"No answer. But the presence is stronger now, closer. A faint, metallic scent laces the air, sharp and unfamiliar and wrong. It curls into my senses, setting something restless beneath my skin twitching in response.Predator. Not wolf. Definitely not wolf.My pulse spikes. This was a mistake. Every story we've ever been told about the lands be

Fear has a scent. I know that now. It's sharp, bitter, and it clings to the air like something rotting just beneath the surface, and right now it's everywhere. Not just from them. From me.The forest feels smaller somehow, tighter, like it's closing in around us as the pack regroups. No one rushes forward this time. No one makes the same mistake twice. Good, because I don't think I could survive another mistake. My breathing is still uneven, my body humming with that strange, unstable energy that hasn't fully settled. It lingers under my skin like a warning, like something waiting to break free again. And they all feel it. I can see it in their eyes. Not pity anymore, not dismissal. Something colder. Calculation.Darian steps closer, slow and careful, like I'm a wild thing that might lash out if cornered."Alira," he says, quieter now. "You need to come with us."My chest tightens. Not come home. Not come back. Just come. Like I'm something to be handled. Contained.I swallow hard. "W

Falling should feel like falling. It doesn't. Not this time. It feels like being taken. The air doesn't rush past me the way it should. There's no wind screaming in my ears, no sense of impact waiting at the bottom. Just weightlessness, and Kael's arm locked around me like I'm the only thing keeping him anchored too.The darkness beneath the shattered floor swallows everything above us in seconds. Light disappears, sound follows, then even the sensation of direction starts to blur.My breath comes out sharp. "This is not, this is not normal!""I know," Kael says flatly. That doesn't help. It should. But it doesn't, because he sounds too calm for someone currently falling into what feels like the inside of the earth."Where are we going?" I demand, clutching at his shirt instinctively."I don't know."That finally makes my head snap toward him. "What do you mean you don't know?!"A pause. Then, quieter, "I've never been here."That lands harder than I expect. Kael Draven. Hybrid. Feare

The moment my feet hit the ground, the chamber changes its mind about letting us leave. The walls don't just flicker anymore, they react, like something inside them has decided we're not supposed to exist outside their control.Kael's grip on my wrist tightens instantly. "Don't stop," he says sharply."I'm not stopping!" I snap back, even though my legs feel like they're moving through water.Behind us, the space where the crystal exploded is no longer empty. It's filling in. Not with stone. With light. With that same wrong, silver pulse that knows my name better than I do.Aria.The sound of it still echoes in my skull like a hand pressed too hard against bone."Kael," I hiss, breath uneven, "you heard it too, right? That name""Yes," he cuts in. Just that. No hesitation, no softness. Just confirmation that makes my stomach twist harder.I yank my arm slightly, forcing him to slow for half a second so I can face him. "That's not my name," I say quickly. "I don't care what that thing

The words don't leave my head. The original host. They circle there, refusing to settle into anything that makes sense. Because if I let them settle, something inside me will break in a way I can't undo. The chamber, or whatever this place is, begins to shift again. Not collapse this time. Not fracture. Align. The floating symbols above us rotate in synchronized motion, like a lock finally finding its key after centuries of waiting. And I feel it, inside my bones, that same pull. Except now it's not chaotic. It's intentional.Kael's hand tightens around my wrist. "Don't fight it."My head snaps toward him immediately. "That's your advice? Don't fight the thing rewriting reality around me?"His jaw clenches. "Fighting it won't stop it.""Then what will?!"He hesitates. That hesitation again. That damn hesitation. Then, "You need to let it recognize you."I stare at him like he's lost his mind. "I don't even recognize me!"His eyes sharpen. "Exactly."The space hums louder. The symbols
